after 20k on pretty related bike few personal comments absolutely true for low, very low gears - not also for climbing.... there a days when you are so happy having them, like being just tired eye c t light is quite neet, but by far not the best at actual market. I went through some of b&m products (also eye c) and now sticking to battery solution and usb power bank in pocket. Get another one, this one is average at best handles are famous for becoming sticky crap after short time... my alternative: wearing gloves for more grip & comfort two way of handling chips in paint: install thick foil in critical areas (cost only few $) or just ignore them this specific kickstand is crap, especially on back, few other of this supplier a bit better. go for another supplier acknowledge that frame, frame size fitting you and saddle + drive train are crucial. Any other component will / shall be exchanged to own need or preference otherwise: nice and detailed review, cheers!

Great honest review! I also have a Koga World traveler but then the signature. So I was able to customize it to my liking. I ride my bike for almost 10k and last may from the Netherlands via Germany, the Alps to Rome Italy mostly on gravel roads and my bike still looks brand new without any damage on paint or materials. And believe me, I’am clumsy as hell 😂 Okay my version costs 3500 Euros but did you buy the starter version with lower specs? Compliments for your channel. Immediately opt-in ✅

This is such a good bike review. I have watched many and it has to be one of the best. The camera work is excellent filming what you are talking about. Your observations and thoughts are very clear and considered. Shame the bike wasn't for you. The Koga World Traveller is a very well regarded bike for cycle touring. Hopefully you have now found another bicycle which you are more happy with.

That ring lock is genius! It's called "Bäckerschloss" for a reason: You can easily lock your bike if you don't venture far away and nobody can just ride away. You also can buy a chain or a rope that fits into the lock opposite the key lock to lock the bike to a lamp post or something else. One more benefit: You cannot forget the lock - it's always there.

  • @biking_beyond

Interesting to hear a positive review, however I just can not understand how anyone could possibly like a „lock“ like this 😅 securing a 3000€ bike with a mechanism that allows thiefs to just lift the back of the bike and comfortably carry/ push the bike on the front wheel is not acceptable for me 🙈🫣

@@pedroclaro7822 Because the geometry is different from a diamond frame. The head tube is longer so my handlebars are higher than my saddle. For me, this results in saddle pain and sore shoulders. I cannot solve it with fine adjustment, my handlebars are already in the lowest position and my leg length is what it is. After more than half a year of searching I still can't get this figured out. I am going to try 1 more new saddle (nr. 5!). If that doesn't improve the problem, I'm going to strip the bike for parts and have a custom frame built.

That sucks. I am considering buying one off a fella who’s 20cm taller than the recommended height for the bicycle- maybe that’s why it fit him… He’s selling it for 250 because there’s no market for touring bikes in m country and I think it’s a total steal, except it doesn’t have all stock parts, and the frame is putting me off. Seems comfortable but granny style as the OPoster said xD It’s not the world traveler model, it’s just ‘traveler’, which seems to be advertised as an adventure bike as well. Still from retail 1,700 to 200something… I think I don’t mind the cons if it fits I think you could try a few things though - shortest cranks. Would allow you raise saddle height. Clipless pedals might help too since they end up raising your feet from the center of the pedals by 2cm - an adjustable stem. I’ve seen a few tourers with them, despite the added breaking points. - I’ve also seen a road bike to tourer conversion with one of these (though it was to raise the handlebars, it seems like it would work well for the opposite). Look up FMFXTR bicycle double stem riser. I think it’s marketer towards folder, but no reason why it won’t fit elsewhere

I am a frame builder. I have installed many under down tube water bottle fitting. I do not know if you are headed back to your home in Germany. When you get back, you could someone to drill and install a pair of lower placed riv-nuts under your down-tube, so you could mount a second cage.

I've attached bottle cages with plastic zip-ties to any part of the frame including the fork. They have not budget 1mm even with 1lt bottles. I cut them off once the tour ends. No need to choose a bike according to bottle holding points.

I bought some look-a-like Ergon grips on Amazon which are ergonomically very similar to Ergon, but these grips do not have a hand grip surface that becomes sticky and horrid to put your hands on, plus they were a lot cheaper. Nice review. The paint chipping is unforgiving and should be warranted by Koga. The stand also should not break with such a new bike. (I work at a Koga dealership and i must say that it is not a very common issue). The grips get sticky because of the sweat of your hands. Some people have that some don't. A pear of gloves should prevent that The lock is actually pretty decent. It also has a hole that you can stick a chain lock into. That way you only need 1 key and the bike is double locked. That the saddle cover came loose is unfortunate. That it does not sit good is just a personal thing. There is not a sadle in the world that suits every person. The lack of bodle cages can be easely fixed by make some extra holes on the top tube. Also the front forks have 4 additional holes for 2 boddle cages. Don't forget that it's a relatifly cheap travel bike. You do get the nice frame and it pedals very light and is very stiff. (You cant compare the frame with a Cube or an other cheap brand, its way better)

I got a koga signature in 2008 (26" wheels). The head tube cracked after 16,000 miles and koga replaced the frame in 2018 to a "grand tourer" for free (700c wheels) I still have the original stands (I've replaced the rubber on the back a few times as it can be pulled off by mud) I fitted drop handlebars with gevenalle friction shifters with TRP hylex brakes and leather bar tape. The front fork design is awful with how the rack fits and also the mud guard is awfully designed. The world tourer fork looks much better. (I would have preferred that but wasn't given the option on the life time warranty) The paint seems very tough. Sounds like you've got a bad batch or koga have got worse in 5 years. I've done about 7,000 miles on this frame. I'm sorry your one doesn't seem to be a good standard. If I was in Germany I'd get a tout terrain blue ridge GT .My touring buddy has one (in a small frame). Awesome. You could always get the frame and transfer the koga components over. (It can be upgraded to rohloff hub at a later date) I really love the front kick stand on my koga, but tout terrain have their steering lock. Brooks saddles are fabulous. I (in my opinion) find the ring lock is perfect if you are going into a bakery. No one can carry off a heavily laden tourer, especially if you've got your eye on it through the bakery window. (I worry more about the bags) the lock is very quick to use and ring lock for the back wheel also has a hole the other side of the key that you can insert a plug in wire or chain lock, so you can then lock the frame to an immovable object as well as the front wheel. I find the grand tourer very comfortable. Love your channel.

Lack of mounts for water bottles, pumps...whatever plagues all new bikes in my opinion. Surly is the only bike company that puts plenty of mounts on. You can find nylon bottle holders that velcro to your handlebars and gooseneck. Be glad you live where you can safely ride a bike. The USA has very large trucks used as commuter vehicles, violent drivers (people in general too) and riding a bike on or near the road is a dangerous activity. We mostly have to ride mountain bikes in the western USA on the dirt away from the roads.
