Why I bought the LowePro ProTactic BP 450 AW II Camera Backpack in 2021

There's a lot of innovation going on in the camera backpack market these days and new models appear every week all with the promise of being the 'perfect' kitbag. There is of course no such thing as a perfect backpack because everyone has different needs and requirements and every bag has its advantages and disadvantages. So when I decided to upgrade, I looked at the latest and greatest bags and in the end decided to go with one that was released back in 2019. In this video, I explain why.

Just got this bag today! Looks really good so far and it fits my camera attached to my Canon RF 100-500 lens with an extender mounted to it, which was my exact need. My otherwise very excellent Peak Design Everyday Backpack 30L does the job most of the time, but didn’t have enough for my birding combo.

Great tip on laying out the bag. Thank you. Enjoyed your video. What's funny is that I have same camera bag you showed at the beginning of your video and now I've purchase 450 AWII.

Cheers, am in the backpack choosing nightmare. This made the list and is one of few you can buy atm. Nice to see it does the job. Hope its carry on cool that all but depends maybe on the airline.

good job, I just got mine and now trying to figure out where to put everything so its now to overweight, lol but overall I just love it, finally im happy after my 3rd purchase of camera bags, I have my R6 mounted with sigma 150-600c still mounted on the R6 and my Rf800 f/11 going across the bottom along with a 24-70 for landscapes and both ef & rf 1.4 convertors etc etc not to install the tripod on the side, just love this amazing bag

Great review. No messing about and down to earth, with good tips. I also believe that the fact it is still available means something too.

I went for this bag today after watching loads of KZread reviews, it was a choice of either the lowpro 350 or 450 or the gitzo 35l. I went to my local camera store to see it in real life and put a couple of big lenses in them. The Gitzo was a great bag and had more interior padding and a nice area to store cloths or stuff in a roll top which nearly swayed me but the 45L was too big and the 35L to small, even the store owner was pushing me to go with that one. But in the end I went with the Lowpro because it just seemed to fit my lenses better and had the side and top access as well as the back. I have a Sigma 600mm in the centre accessible from the top with camera body attached, I have a 70-200 in the side which I can access easily with the side door, also a 24-70 and a macro 100mm and still room for other stuff. The tactical part is great to attach things to with straps or hook type things and can put a gimble on it with monopod too. Yes with all that stuff its dam heavy but manageable if I need all that gear. Can only be lighter if not taking so much anyway. Drinks holder is great rather than stuffing it in a tight pocket like on others too. Really pleased with my purchase overall and it dosnt feel to big unlike the gitzo 45L which I would of gone for if I only when trekking with it, The low pro is better if you use it for both event stuff or wildlife and your not going to keep knocking people over as its quite low profile considering how much you can put in it.

I have the same bag, bought it May 2020 and absolutely love it for all the reasons you've given. The biggest drawback however, and the only reason I'm awaiting delivery of the Whistler 450 AW II, is the simple issue of not having any real space for clothing or jackets etc. I have bags I attach to the outside but this becomes quite cumbersome. The Whistler will hopefully solve this problem for me. Otherwise the ProTactic 450 AW II is still a brilliant bag.

love the pro tactic after watching hundreds of youtube videos myself. I do like the Shimado V2 but priced out of reach, trying to determine if I need the 350 or 450 thanks for the video

A more important question is, can you fly with this backpack? Do Australian airlines permit this backpack as Carry On as it appears to be much bigger than allowed.

I bought this recently after watching the video. Thanks Andy. Now, airline carry-on question: does this fit the airlines’ size requirements? No one had any issues getting it on board?
