Why Hi Im Gosu Fell Off

Ойындар

hi im Gosu (Gosu, League of Gosu) was one of the most recognizable ADC players back in the day, famous for his Vayne montages and Challenger ADC mechanics, prime Gosu was truly a treat to watch. Over the years, however, his passion for League of Legends and content creation, in general, has noticeably decreased - to the point where he will abandon the game altogether for long periods of time. While his channel still pulls in an impressive view count, it's undeniable that the peak Gosu of season 6/7 is long gone. Welcome to LoLAthlete, this is the story of how Hi Im Gosu fell off.

Gosu is a classic case of someone who mastered a niche in a video game, and then the video game changed. I don't think his skill declined, I don't think he stopped caring (despite his care or appreciation for League possibly waning), but the game changed. Period. It's not some deep mathematical equation. Gosu had an intense mechanical gameplay style on a very specific character that played a very specific way. Doesn't matter if Vayne evolved from a crit champion to a Guinsoo user, or an on-hit user, or whatever, the way the game shifted didn't allow him to continue to play Vayne, at that mechanical level, to the same level of success. ADC's started to flood the bot lane that did what Vayne did, but better; whether it be better Stealth (Kai'Sa), better range (take your pick), better crit users (Jhin, Draven, Mr. 200 years), overloaded kits with CC and nullifying effects (Nilah, Samira), to an absolute cavalcade of Support characters that had durability, CC (Zyra, Leona, Yuumi) , or even damage (Senna, Pyke). I think Gosu is sick. I think his Vayne play is sick. I just don't think Vayne has any real identity in the current ecosphere of League. That's all.

You forgot about Aphelios. but yeah, I completely agree with you, playing adc is not the same it used to be, especially after season 8 I think, when they launched adc update and graves rework. Most depressing patch ever. I think the key issue here is, while Vayne still does a ton of damage, a whole bunch of champions can do just the same amount of damage but don't have turbo weak early game. Vayne's passive is just too weak. Some small amount of movespeed towards enemy champions? I mean, It doesn't amount to anything. I would much rather put her W into passive with level scaling 1-18, and put passive movespeed on her W as well as a burst of movespeed on activation. Would make much more sense atm.

Living for the word "ecosphere" But yeah Riot had an absoilutely ambarassing survey you may have seen that askled us to rank the issues and two of them were "1) champions individually are overpowered 2) there's too much damage in the game" and it's like... yes. Both. To the Nth degree times a million. Vayne is short range and can't one shot anyone and has no aoe, and her roll isn't crazy enough to carry her away from enormous aoe cc that will one shot her on it's own or stun her for 50 years.

I have more than 100 games on Vayne all the way from boosting in bronze to getting autofilled in master+ she's brain-dead but her lack of range makes her annoying to play vs adcs that know how to space. Nowadays she's decently nerfed if i remember right but she's still a fundamentally brain-dead champ. Also got a LOT of Draven games over the years so i have played adc in various metas.

@fotis3v480 I glanced over what you said I thought you said aim skillshots my b lol but yeah I'm about 700k mastery on her one acc and another 300k on another. But I would have to disagree about her being brain dead. Sure her kit is simple but ultimately she's not hard to fk up on and all it takes is one or two fk ups and you can be out the whole game on her. But yeah I've hit gold 1 back in seasons 4/5 on my main acc but I didn't play her then and then gold 4 on that Gosu acc I made. I'm like silver on them these days I don't really play too much anymore, last time I played a bunch was towards the beginning on this year on a fresh acc but I was playing mid LB/Diana and hit d2 some how but I just think it was a fluke or the Adderall because I started to decline after I stopped taking the meds and I think it's like d3 or 4 now due to decay but for some odd reason my main acc I can't seem to climb on its I'm not a good solo carry player I feel and most my games have trolls/afkers.

gosu did reveal his face and streamed for awhile. I was watching him alot back then and he said it by himself, that he is depressed how he looks and that he would gain backlash for his face reveal. Some people bullied him on stream, so he turned off his face cam and talked about it on stream, that he doesnt have self-consciousness showing his face. Especially one stream, he did a drunk stream and cried/talked his heart out to his viewers, about alot of things. I liked his streams but at the end it kinda was depressing, because it feels like he ended up like IreliaCarriesU, who made an on-off appearence on twitch. I think alot of people are trying to compensate for somethings in life, by playing video games, but one day it will always haunt them back.

As an ADC main, I know exactly why without even watching the video. Gosu was really good and enjoyed the game back when it was balanced around skillful kiting and teamfight agency. Now, everyone has 5 dashes, and everyone cvan one shot you, even a support with one item. In that gameplay environment, high skillcap ADCs like Vayne can't pop off, because they don't have the ability to effectively kite anymore since you can't really kite multiple gapclosers, and any mistake is instant death. All of Gosu's best clips were of him kiting out and stealthing in teamfights, juking people. You just can't do that anymore. Along with the ADC role being the punching bag of league, ADC simply isnt a fun role to play. Look at all the other great ADC players. Off the top of my head, Saber and T1 have both quit adc or switched roles. ADC just isn't a fun role anymore.

I can understand him, with pro play beeing what it is today, adc in soloq is pretty much the most misserable thing you can experience and that started in 2017 or 2018, he was knows to 1v9 games, but thanks to proplay, every/no role is a carry role now and adcs dont enjoy the thing that made them unique, carrying lategame(if that even happens, games dont last more then 20 mins nowadays). Its not really fun watching someone going 1/0/14 because people spectate someone beeing a side character and it certanly isnt fun beeing one. The only adcstreamers that get views on twich is doublelift/ Rekkles (because they are proplayers) and (at least was before he decided that he prefers minors) cookielol. RatIRL was up there too, but he rightfully switched to supp and mid because the role is just fuel for depression and no one wants to watch it. If you want to pull viewers you either need to be a crazy personality or top/mid/jgl player. There are 0 big adc league streamers atm that arent pro players if im not mistaken and there is a reason for that.

ADC never were "THE CARRY" role you make them out to be. Been playing since 2012 and ADC role has more impact than it ever had. The Role has always been a bad experience due to it being a duo lane. Adc streams are boring to watch that's all there is to it. Toplane is irrelevant 95% of the games these days. Yet it's the most viewed role. (mostly champs being more interesting) RATIRL is playing Support and Midlane because he enjoys AP twitch, Brand and Nami. That's all there is to it. Exhaust isn't what it used to be. As cooldown/ haste became more viable, well traditional marksman would consistantly be nerfed in itemization and still in talents too. stacking much faster for melee > ranged. Invisible targets. Traditional marksman like sivir or jinx are the remanensce of an older game where a town got built around them instead of riot making another game. Why play jinx when you can play jhin who benefits from attack speed and who's high attack benefits more from players lower defense stats. Or xayah providing cc well sivir stays gimicked as a former wave queen that relies on spell shield to shove waves. Kalista's riots biggest regret. Orb walking used to be a mandatory skill. rip 5.0 kogmaw. Frozen mallet kiting, Cutlass. And the beginning of the end. Was vision. Like Stealth wards or buying a sight stone without having to spend 10-20 minutes to stack that anyone could buy. Junglers/ top laners all bought it. Adc's even back then. Lee sin wasn't the best jungler because he cleared better, but that he would provide vision and it provided him mobility. And other than revive dying punished players much more.

Showcases from players like wildturtle on TSM or Chaox proved how deadly and necessary adc was for 30+ minute games. The game was a lot slower back then and adc's would almost always hit their 6 items power spike on top of them having more baseline health than they do now. One of the things that's understated is/was his depression. I cant remember when but there was a time he was a collab streaming with Trick2g both both drunk and revealed he contemplated suicide. This is a hot take but when streaming no one wants to view content of someone that is overtly depressed. I think/hope the time he is taking off is help mental health. Life has trade offs if you spend time in one thing other skills deteriorate, I wouldn't say he fell off but in order to help himself the best choice was to leave league. If Gosu you are reading this take your time enjoy life you arent obligated to stream do what make you happy if you eventually come back the stream will rise again.

Shouldve mention that when he did his voice reveal he had a voice changer to sound like a girl to troll everyone at first before changing it back to his real voice. And also had a mental breakdown on trick2g stream saying he was going to kill himself in January of 2016. Just some hidden lore of gosu when i watched him back in the day

I remember like 7 years ago, watching gosu instead of doing homework to school, damn, he was inspiring and I was addicted to his streams. Later his streams, regardless of using mic was just boring - everything was always the same, no changes at all, so I stopped.

It's so sad to see the state of League's content creator-base. i was around for a lot of the icons in they hayday and its just crazy to peak back into League, like looking under the cover to see there is almost no one left besides Vtubers :(. They are good too, but it just sucks to see a lot of the icons and inspirations despise their main game now. Honestly the burn out was something that everyone felt in the 2019-2022 era (i even quit). Even look Necrit and TB Skyen, even the lore squad has started to move on from the game. xD honestly i feel cursed. I hop from game to game and accidently land during the hayday of a game like MC->TF2->OW->LoL, now looking back and seeing the wasteland of memories.

I think its time for us to realize that people grow and change, u cant just play the same game 10 years of your life and enjoy it the same, people have other projects and a life going on, it is the inevitable end of every gamer who loves a game. I used to play ragnarok online, i was an unstopable force a it but after years and years, online friends to come and go, i did not enjoy the game anymore. I love that game to the core of my heart, i still keep some old friends from it and i've crossed countries to meet them after years of friendship and we still play other games together, they are my best friends. I hold dear in my memory, those nights at dungeons killing bosses, the grind for better equipment and to develop our habilities at the game, the quests, the fun and the PvP but is something that is in my past.

Vayne was so much harder to play back in the days. He lost lane vs everything and legit needed 4 items at least to becomr a champion. This was loooong before rageblade existed. The fact that he was doing what he did on vayne back then, was truelly impressive

  • @prismriot4910

That doesn't make it harder to play, the game was slower then so you had more time to scale. ADC in general was much easier to play. Yeah, you had to spend more of your time farming/playing safe, but a random full tank build champ wouldn't walk out of the jungle and one tap you back then.

Out of all LoL streamers you'd choose, Gosu is probably the last one you should be making this kind of video about. Reason of him being so passive is purely his choice, even through traumas he could stream, but he chose his own kind of peace, so instead of "downfall" video, people should make appreciation videos of his. That might bring him back. All the best to him in his life ❤

  • @UncleForHire

    @UncleForHire

Just because it was his choice doesn't mean he didn't experience a downfall. Same thing happened to other creators he already covered, for whatever reason they stopped caring, trying or felt burnout and they fell. Besides this types of videos are meant to be informative, for all the people wondering "what happened to gosu" not to cheer on their downfall like you're making it sound.

I would like to express that in my opinion support role is the most reliable role in league of legends - adcs have hard time doing anything without team but for most supports even if you play out of your mind when your team is behind or the players just dont play that well that game its nigh impossible to do anything about it and sure this is biased as I am support main but lets look at the support stereotypes we have in the game - enchanter supports revolve solely around boosting your teammates (team reliant), engage supports such as naut, thresh, leona etc. those set up the fights but then again sometimes its not followed properly sometimes the team is too far behind, damage supports (mostly ap) these have potential to snowball the game but they get noticebly less gold funneled into them since they cant farm so compared to adc or mid they are still less reliable in solo carrying + they suffer the same disadvantages as adcs or pure mages on midlane, as an adc you can always pick something like samira or whatever is good in the meta and unlesss you get oneshotted by full tank chogath you can do something
