Why Germany is a staunch supporter of Israel

Israel is supported by many big international players - the US being the most powerful. Within Europe, it’s Germany. Following the October 7th attack by Hamas, Berlin’s backing has been ironclad. So why is Germany such a staunch supporter of Israel?

So referring to Palestinians as the amalek is not a genocidal statement. Carpet bombing civilian infrastructure is not ethnic cleansing? Saying that the Palestinians are human animals is not a genocidal statement? Intentionally starving the population is not genocidal. Israels far right parliamentarians and high officials have in the open stated their intent to eliminate not Hamas but the entire Palestinian population is that not a genocidal intent? What is the argument exactly here?

The real reason why Germany supports Itsracial is the same why the US supports it: Both have gigantic Z-lobbies in their country. It's not that hard to figure out (just use your search engine and look at official sites of these pressure groups), but apparently it's very hard to speak about in the media.

Is it possible to treat Israel like anybody else when its creation of Israel itself is a special treatment by America and Europe? Europeans and US may speak about objectivity but their actions throughout history shows that they are showing special treatment to Israel .

Some minimise the deaths of over 30,000 Palestinians, but if it was in their own countries, they'd take a VERY different stance.

For the simple reason that germany depends heavily on Israelis military equipment while at the same time, germany also earns billions € supplying miltary equipment to Israel.

Knowing the history of Germany, it would be political suicide not to help Israel. They don't want to help, but they must. Simple as that.

I enjoyed the debate! I too am less hung up on the semantics of genocide. No one deserved what happened to the Israeli people on 07 Oct. 2023, but Israel's response is insane. Their response was not and is not proportional. It is cruel/inhumane, colonial, racist and murderous on a mass scale. Netanyahu and his gangster government need to be met with what one panelist said an objective approach from their Western allies. Bravely condemn and denounce Israel's behaviour, cut off military and economic aid and vigorously aid the Palestinian people to restore them the best we can. I appreciate Ireland has called out Israel. Ultimately, Israel and Palestine have to live peacefully side by side. The West has the resources and now just has to find the guts to do just that!
