However the equivalent to showing the girls would be showing more of her legs. Maybe that's part of the reason why she's not being taken seriously...? My son has been interested in Japanese culture since he was a child. (he’s 24 now) I wanted to gift him a trip to Japan but he doesn’t want to go, he worries that he might offend people without knowing it. We’re Native American Indigenous and in our culture our elders are very important to us. We are quiet and sometimes considered shy. I would really like for him to experience your country but I don’t know what kind of experience it would be for him.

Definitely go. I went with my daughter and cousin and we are from Canada and also Indigenous. Never had any issues and I’m sure there is an understanding that coming from foreign place it’s to be expected. As long as you’re respectful of others using common sense like not littering and not being overly loud etc it’s fine. But I can honestly say that people there are quite private but are also very kind and curious about you too. What I found interesting was the similarities I saw in our cultures. They pray and light up incense which reminds me of smudging and you can tie up prayers you write down on in a tree and it’s open to everyone. Your son will definitely enjoy the experience and beauty of it all. We left Japan with a great lasting impression. ❤

I think the fact that he is so conscious of offending someone, he is all the more unlikely to offend someone. I've been to Japan multiple times and unless you are super obnoxious, it's really difficult to offend anyone there. The closest I came to anger was trying to open a taxi door manually (they are automatic), the driver looked pretty annoyed. But if your son goes there and acts like a normal person he will get along just fine. Just like anywhere, 98% of the population isn't going to pay any attention to you most of the time.

The Indian girl is very articulate and I think what she said was quite accurate. Japanese me are a bit shy to begin with but then when they do date foreign women they do not take them seriously. Hmmm, it depends, but not as much though. I've seen many more foreign men in long term relationships with Japanese women than foreign women with Japanese men, including long distance relationships. It just seems like foreign men are more willing to either compromise or adjust to their Japanese partner's culture and personality. It's one of the main reasons why I think Japanese men don't really pursue foreign women, because they probably think she wouldn't adjust to Japanese culture. Another reason, I've seen in other videos of Japanese men being interviewed about this topic, is that the one's who had foreign girlfriends kept insisting on westernizing the Japanese guy's personality. For example, she wouldn't want to learn Japanese but expected her Japanese partner to use English all the time. Another, was that they didn't like their Japanese boyfriends hiding their emotions or not being straightforward.

I would say there is another huge issue behind this and it´s the ethnicity of the foreigner person. I have been in Japan already for 7 months and I realized that blonde and white-skin girls get way more attention than dark haired and dark-skin girls. There is some sort of idolization for this "kind" of foreigner. So that also adds up to the equation when we contemplate dating. Sometimes even if you receive some sort of attention from men, they do not go further into something serious and it can be very difficult sometimes to find an honest man when they tend to think you are "easy" just because you do not share the "Japanese social standards".

I agree, Takashii, it demonstrates how important it is for foreigners to try to learn to speak Japanese. I watched a lot of foreign language films in A LOT OF DIFFERENT LANGUAGES (using subtitles to understand) but what I found was each language has it's own "feeling" and "sounds" and those are as much a part of the communication between people as the actual meaning of words conveyed ! The saying that "80% of language is body-language" sort of illustrates some of this importance ie not just what is said but how it is said?

It's funny, in the West we often stereotype Japanese people as being indirect communicators who make you read between the lines to figure out what they mean, but when it comes to dating unlike here in the West, the transition to being a couple is something that has to be explicitly communicated - you don't just drift into being in a relationship with someone as often happens here in Western countries. Goes to show the limitations of stereotypes like that.

I'm not sure that disproves it because it also means if that person doesn't communicate (as the first girl suggested) then the relationship remains undefined for a long time. In that case, the foreigner may believe it's more than it is while the Japanese person hasn't communicated anything so they believe it's still just casual.

Well it can be difficult for all married couples but try to have good life-work balance personally, have high quality family time and finally keep telling the other, how much you value their values that make them them and how special that is to you. Then tell them how you try to live up to their values and are trying all the time to improve... Then, the both of you: If you are raising a child how you share values to help your child grow to be a good person and happy in the world. For practical matters: Try to be a part of wider extended family and share the work of raising children more!! It helps everyone so long as you ensure your child can be respectful to others.

I lived in Japan in the 90s for several years and even dated a Japanese man. He wanted to get married eventually though and his family were very working class traditional and he was the oldest (and only) son so that meant I would have to look after his parents eventually (maybe even have them live with us). Although I loved his parents, it wasn't really the life I saw for myself. I dated another lovely man for a while but I eventually broke up with him when I came back to my country and he didn't speak English so I didn't feel that he knew me well enough to come with me. All the foreign men in Japan were only interested in partying/casual relationships or relationships with Japanese women (because let's just say they tolerate a lot more than foreign women do).

You know what? It's truly unfortunate that many people can't find someone to grow old with whether they live in their own country or another, because we often can't understand why we're not good enough for someone we like. It gets very lonely out there and it's definitely unfair to many women and men from foreign countries who want to date someone outside their own. In this case, I personally believe that having an ideal type is a waste of time, because the ideal type is extremely rare and no one is perfect. If I ever moved to Japan, the idea of not being able to get a boyfriend wouldn't have been a surprise. Quite frankly, I don't really fit the ideal type of many guys who I would find attractive. I probably would've had rotten luck, hence why I wasn't so sure if I wanted to learn to speak Japanese. No one should have to feel like they aren't worthy of love anywhere in the world. I believe there is someone for everyone out there, even if you can't find that special someone right now. I hope many foreign women who live in Japan can find their special person eventually. And it obviously doesn't have to be in just Tokyo. Just know that you are loved and important to those who care for you, and it may not be the person you tried to date.

It's interesting, I've chosen to stay single for a few years now for that very reason. There is no perfect mate out there but you also see a lot of failed relationships and marriages. I personally don't think where I'm from I will find anyone interesting so I just don't waste the time. I think because we're all so connected now on a global scale that often ppl feel that they belong or feel like they belong to places that may be half way across the world. That's why I think traveling is really important for anyone's development and also you never know what you might discover

The reality is there isn't someone for everyone. We do more harm than good with fairy tale romance stories. Attraction is based on sexual selection. Love is based on attraction first, it's rare to find personality attractive first, especially for guys. Marriege is based on economics, love is a very new concept. People who have disability either mental of physical are fated to be alone, so are people who are deemed ugly. We pretend we are superior but human are stupid animals nothing more. And life is trully bullshit.

As it stands , many girls are being taught that men are evil rapists and are not worth your time if they can't cover all your expenses and then some. They're also being taught that being a woman ... is bad ???? You have to be a male woman ! So they're trying to do male jobs, while male psychos are dressing up as women and taking THEIR jobs. Honestly dating with Japanese men as a foreign girl might be difficult and often very slow, in my experience which i personally like because i have huge trust issues and I need months for even a normal friendship which is why I struggle dating with people in my own country but I’m very comfirtable with the slow process with Japanese men. But it’s hard to know how they really feel about you since they often aren’t very expresive when it comes to emotions. But all of it is something That’s for me very comfortable. But these are just my experience and not every Japanese is the same. Basically some are willing to be open to foreign relationship which as an international couple will need a lot of mutual learning and understanding and some just won’t bother. It’s still an experience and even though I’m with my Japanese man for 2 years it’s still a lot of learning.

Living for a year in Japan with my girlfriend, we wondered the same thing. The explanation we came up with was that many single foreigners are men. Working holiday visa or tech jobs for 30 years old engineers seem to be mostly done by men, and so there is simply just way more men than women living abroad. When we came back to Paris, we also thought that we saw way more Japanese men going out with french women than Japanese girl with french men. So if our theory is right, it's just that binational couples usually start in the girl's country. As for now, I do have in my close friends two couples with a french man and a Japanese woman living in France (Paris and Nantes), but they all met in Tokyo, in Shimokitazawa 😉

Nah, there is plenty of teachers who are women. It s same in China reasons, are more superficial actually: 1. Men with yellow fever, easy girls. 2. Japanese men might be not as tall/attractive/sex is weird (not only japanese, but chinese as well), also attitude, so foreign women ask for much more than a D and when it s D it s gotta be goood. While foreign men can F whatever asian girl around, mostly it s abt sex and a bit relationship.

@@lsdstrawberry6260 I think what you said is part of it, but also what the original comment said I think is also part of it. Also, I think cultures believing that men should be the approachers contributes to the skewdness as well. Typically, a traveller is often a bit more outgoing and willing to meet strangers and in a world where men are usually viewed as the person who asks out someone, it leads to a bunch of men going to places who are meeting strangers and are culturally allowed to ask girls out. Meanwhile, a girl traveling is more culturally expected to wait to be approached so I think they are less likely to ask people out and therefore likely to have less results

Thank you for this video. Great content & VERY relatable! I agree that it is very difficult to date Japanese men as a foreign women in JP. I am from the U.S. and have been in JP, (Okinawa),for over 6 yrs. In that 6 yrs, I have been on many dates, but only ONE of those with a Japanese man. All the other dates have been either half Japanese, half American or Filipino. As an American woman very much attracted to Asian men, this has been frustrating for me. I don’t know if it is a language barrier issue, or if I come off as intimidating or unapproachable as an American. (I hope not) So yeah, I think it is MUCH easier for foreign men to date Japanese women than the reverse. But I’m hoping it will get easier since I plan to remain in JP. I loved this video. Nice and sincere girls. The topic was very interesting and the interviews reach an ever-increasing quality. This theme particularly struck me and my impression is that there are more Japanese women with foreign men instead of the other way around because perhaps some Japanese men are very shy or sometimes too rational and maybe sometimes they should rely more on the feelings and emotions they feel more than rationality. However I think that the union between two different cultures brings enrichment and inner growth and conflicts can be overcome with love, clarity and honesty. I look forward to the next video. A warm greeting from Italy. 🤗

The harsh reality is that a lot of Japanese men don't want to date foreign women because Japanese women are considered more beautiful, they already speak their language and they're less likely to have strong opinions or wanting to break free if the stereotypical Japanese housewife thing. That being said, a lot of Japanese women actually like to embrace their femininity and a lot just want to be housewives. Moreover, the Japanese men who do want to be with foreign women often times are just after the novelty of it, not necessarily because they love them. They just want to show off their blonde haired, tall foreign girlfriend.

I have been dating Japanese and Korean men for most of my dating life. I am in a long term relationship with my Japanese partner. I would say that, from many conversations with these men, there is an aesthetic. Even in these countries, lighter skin, high noses and big eyes are popular. I would also say that some men have the fantasy about what it is like to be with a foreigner but they wouldn’t be confident to take that girl home to their parents. They wouldn’t be confident to embark on marriage and kids because they might not be able or willing to make cultural concessions. I have been super lucky that my partner is interested in other cultures and is flexible and his parents are accepting - although they’re not super traditional. My partner has also had issues with dating Japanese women in terms of how they are less likely to communicate about issues they have in the relationship as he is quite an up-front person. I have noticed that Asian men who date foreigners have similar experiences and find dating foreigners in a way easier. So I do think that sexual preference, the ability to mix two cultures and family pressures all come in to play. I have had quite a lot of interesting experiences because I don’t date within my own culture, and would say that the biggest determinant of a second date is not only connection but the other persons interest and ability to foresee that there will be cultural differences and they’re confident to communicate through them. That said, dating cross-culturally is super fun when two people are right for each other but there are more complications!

I started loving Japan just after this work performance, though I’ve been a fan Of the Samurai history (especially the 47Ronin). I love your Culture and working on my Japanese Lol.

I found this clip to be both interesting and very informative. Dating across cultures surely has its challenges, but I think it is worth it in the long run. Thank you for sharing it.

Been really finding these videos interesting since discovering your channel. I definitely fully understand the feelings of the first girl you interviewed so its always nice to know I am not alone in having these feelings. Dating in Japan is hard! XD

When I was in Japan last month, I noticed a lot of Japanese women with foreign men, but not the vice versa. I didn’t think I’d plan to re-visit Japan next year.

When you say foreign men, do you only mean white men? Or did you see a lot of black or brown men dating them too? Just curious.

@@gimi2395 i’d say white men for the most part, but I did witness other ethnicities with Japanese women as well.

It's wrong. According to 2016 statistics, 70% of all international marriages that year were couples between a Japanese man and a foreign woman.

In the 90s when I was young and lived in Japan, I dated Japanese men. Some were very sweet, and I was so stupid to dump them (I really regretted it later). Others, I asked out and they said no, saying they're not interested in foreigners (I remember one guy said there was too much culture difference). I think back then one problem was the gender roles. A direct, opinionated foreign woman who doesn't know how to cook etc. was a put off for some Japanese men. I remember one guy, a coworker, whose apartment I was visiting, asked me to make tea. I didn't know how to and didn't. He hated me after that day, LOL! But I think things are getting better now in that aspect. ALSO, many Japanese men are very shy. Vs foreign men less shy and more easily ask Japanese women to date.
