People really are still playing this game. While waiting for Iceborne to release, I got sucked into some games in my backlog. About two weeks ago, it was time to return and finally check out Iceborne and I was absolutely floored to find people not only still playing the game, but consistently playing the game. Any time I SoS’d, people always joined. I think that really speaks volumes about the game.

My only gripe with World is how difficult they made it to play through the story with a group of friends. The fact that everyone needs to watch the monster intro cutscene solo and then join each other to complete the quest as a group has dissuaded my friends from playing through it.

MHW just feels like a legit world; The ecology, monster behaviour, environment interaction, and obviously the graphics. The monsters are literally living in the environment, having their own out-of-battle behaviour, drinking water, basking in the sunlight/moonlight, even the little frogs react to a large monster wandering nearby and start to shiver in fear. You can literally go on an expedition for the sole purpose of basking in the ecology. And I think another big thing is the weapon SFX and the implementation of their hit lag which enhanced how the weapons felt, how the heavy weapons actually *felt* heavy with every swing. All of that really adds up for MHW. MHR is great in its own right, with the customization of the switch skills, the wirebugs, and I personally loved the fight with Narwa and how the arena reacts to the fight, and I have to give the devs props for the terrific atmosphere of the "Gathering of the Qurio" quest in Sunbreak . But generally nothing really felt organic, the maps were really open and flat designed for what feels like the sole purpose of a fighting area. It's like you're there to *fight* the monster, not *hunt* them. The SFX and hit lag really felt lackluster too, causing the weapons to quite literally feel different and lightweight. And for me as a MKB player and bow main, the keyboard layout was nothing short of abysmal. I don't remember which action it was, but the tutorial told me to input "LMB + MMB + RMB" at the same time. I obviously rebound it but that's just ridiculous lmao. MHR is still a fun game with fun combat but personally, I think MHW did just about everything else better.

I couldn't have said it better. The only thing I have to say is that the reason the maps feel and look so bad is because they had to balance them for the Palamute mechanics, which need open long hallways and that's why every map is so shit in my opinion and uninteresting

While some description of items in World (mostly monster parts and some monster ecology notes) are very generic and some weapon designs are just straight up bad, everything else has so much personality that it makes up for that in spades. You can literally walk up to most monsters and they won’t even attack you if you don’t attack them and you can just, watch them do whatever. They act like animals, they interact with the world, and I love it so much. Also you can pet your Palico in a spa bath.

I personally prefer Rise since it felt like classic MH, where it was never really the organic feel of the actual environments but from the actual world building. It had the gung ho spirit and enthusiasm of wht it is to be a Hunter. Also to clarify with how the quest system is set up and the lore of the Hunter's Guild; U were never a "Hunter Hunter" as you would think of deer/fox/bird hunters, as so many seem to confuse with the series sometimes or got tht false idea with MHWorld, but more like Bounty Hunters; Especially with how the flavor text when it came to the quest client and their descriptions. Also u forgot one crucial thing: The build variety. Due to the fact that a good portion of weapons could easily b upgraded to be on par with each other, not equal, along with the Switch skills helped in creating practically triple the build setups u culd make for ur wep. If we look at it from a meta viewpoint: World really only had like 2 to 4 meta builds (and roughly 2 gimmick builds), whereas Rise had somewhere around 10 meta builds (and around 3 gimmick builds). Rise's main focus was hunter EXPRESSION, which is continued off from wht 4U and GU were leading towards. World's focus is the change on the core philosophy of the series and trying to attract a wider audience; And trying to make an "organic" "Immersive" environment is wht generally will attract westerners. So could see it like this: Rise appeals to the core audience before 5th gen World appeals to the wider audience Originally I disliked World when it released due to it lacking something in its transition into appealing to a wider market, and wasnt till Iceborne where it fixed most of it. But anyways, as someone who has been playing since 2009 and has over 6K hrs. I'm lookin forward to MH6 and will find myself continuing to go back to Rise, World, GU, 4U, 3U, FU, Freedom 1, MHFrontierZ, etc. for years to come like any core MH fan would do. I'm still hesitant for the future of the series since its now getting mainstream appeal and that could lead to changes that I would heavily dislike; Where it will lose its core identity tht originally attracted the core niche of the western fanbase all those years ago. But for now, it doesnt look like it has, or anytime soon, reach tht point. So ill continue to buy each new MH entry day one and sink a minimum of 500+ hrs.

You put the exact words I’ve been trying to say since the release of Rise. I love Rise for what it did but I can’t help but compare it to world and its massive maps full of life where the monster really seemed to live there and where not just placed for the sake of the battle.

@@Daigon95I see what you’re saying and I agree in a way because back when world was released I kinda disliked how it felt compared to the previous entries (I play MH since FU). But with time, all the ecosystem thing and new mechanics grew on me and I like it a lot for what it is. Rise have that old vibe for the level design in a way and arcade vibe to it but it’s so fast paced with the dog, the bugs and all that it felt to « fast food » for me. But I like it at the same time because it works, but I don’t really want the serie to continue in this path 😅 It’s just that… everytime I play rise, even if I enjoy it, all I want to do is replay GU or World because those both experience where better executed

monster hunter world combat is terrible, at least the monster design is horrendous, the monsters are all like joy boy luffy on crack tehyr movement pattern is completely overloaded and you ether CHEAT a attack window or you wont get one in masterrank. clutch claw litterally only existed so that they could make these monsters so dumb designed while still being able to circumvent the sheer redicolous movements of the monsters. the weapons actually feel okay but i would rather play as the monster then as the hunter i feel handicapped vs the monsters like having no legs and arms while the monster is simply styling on me and fooling around its such a dumb experience and i would even argue its not a hard game its just bad.

Both games have their strengths and weaknesses. World was made for longer sessions with a MMO lite approach to everything from the progression to fights like Kulve and Safi. Rise, troubled development aside, is meant for more laxed sessions where you get that MH kick in a faster package, hence why it was a Switch only title at first since it wanted to be like other portable games in the series. I'd recommend going for both if possible honestly.

There’s actually nothing new here, people have always been playing older MH games when waiting for the next opus. I remember going back to Mh4U and generation after I was done with mhworld and there was many players (compared to average of previous months). This is what is really cool with the franchise, each game is unique and you can always enjoy it to change the hunting flavor of the moment once you’re burnt with the last opus. People will also come back to play rise in the future to see how good it felt to be able to jump everywhere.

Pretty much wht is happening exactly here. After all the new content and such has been exhausted, u will temporarily see a ballooning of active player bases of prev entries. And I had a similar exp to u. After I finished with World (and later Iceborne) and went back to prev entries; It was honestly alot easier and more frequent of getting new players to hunt with me. Even the private fan MH servers on Citra emulator right now, after Rise was finished up, has gotten a noticeable spike of ppl joining rooms to play some 3U, 4U and GU. It's also why im always kinda urked with certain ppl commenting under these sorts of vids. It's not bc of some long winded, "this is bland" "this was done poorly" "this didnt feel like a living environment" etc., it was just simple bc the new game is done and finished. Ppl are just coming back to prev entries. lol

Still don't think World is that great. My stance has softened on it a bit since release, and I never cared about clutch claw (still think it feels like crap, but my solution is just not using it), but it still feels like a bit of an indicator of when MH started to really push hard to lose its identity and create a new one. That isn't necessarily bad, of course, it just isn't the sort of game that made me a fan of the series.

Just two months ago,I was on my semester break and I was looking for new games to play. Before this, I was an all-time FPS player, on the grind on competitive play and climbing ranks pretty much every day except for when Im in the middle of a semester. Out of the blue, my best friend said he was getting into MHW and he's pouring hours after hours just like what we would do on Valorant, CSGO and Overwatch. It stuck to my head like "Why would I play MHW when I can play FPS as usual?". Fast forward to a few weeks, I decided to buy it whilst it was on sale on Steam. I never expected how fun MHW would be. It was a brand new experience for me. Because of MHW, I even reconnected to old high school friends whom I haven't talked since grad day. Though he was a veteran, he's kind enough to show me the ropes and made me hooked o the game so much I spent 12 hours straight on the first day of playing it. Currently, Im playing Iceborne and what the fuck. I'm so thrilled to the bones to play this game. Don't get me wrong now, I'm still bad at MHW, but I just found it so much fun and hunting monsters are just a blast.

the big diffirence is the feel of the game for me in Rise you feel like your in combat with the monster it feels like your both in somewhat equal footing especially in the mobility department while in world you feel like an actual hunter where you play a battle of attrition with the monster chasing it down in a maze like map marking its tracks and playing the persistent hunter game like the ancient humans did during the Ice age era

I enjoy how we're on the same footing with the monsters. It's been a problem for me for a long time. Dark Souls, Elden Ring, and MHW mobility were terrible, and I don't enjoy battling at a disadvantage. I'm okay with extremely difficult games. However, making the players unable to keep up with the enemy's pace is aggravating. I defeated Malenia at level 1, and most of my kills were caused by the character's slow movement (there is a lot of animation lag in every action.). I want to fight a rival, not conquer a mountain. I want an equal pace as the enemy, not a slow pace. That is why I adore games like DMC5.

  • @chico_zombye

    @chico_zombye

    8 ай бұрын

@@fukunaga-kane I get that but in Rise you are not on the same footing, you are the monster. Rise is really easy, everywhere, you don't even really need to build anything special for the most part in order to be able to beat almost every monster in Rise, which renders most of his content useless besides being skins. Min maxing in World is so much better and building for an specific monster is much more rewarding. I could bully almost every monster in Rise from the get go and that's not good IMO. Yes, it was fun to move around because the movement is really fun but I never felt threatened by a boss in a game about beating bosses. They are just bigger random monsters I can destroy. DMC is about making long combos and points. Monster Hunter is not aboug having an arcade score going up by mashing a lot of buttons, it's about being clean, precise and building correctly. I still like Rise, but it was a different experience, where I used my head a lot less. It a "let's bully some monsters" type of mentality. Also the end game of MHW is ridiculously better than MHR endgame IMHO, but that's another topic haha.

The more abilities and special things you give the player, the more you indirectly make the game easy. Wire bugs, scrolls, and stuff like that made mhr way easier. Sure combat was faster paced, but the options given to the player also made you WAYYYY faster in comparison to previous titles. World was my first experience in Monster Hunter (main line). It drew me in and had me exploring each area in expedition mode as I seeked out materials, small monsters, and took a try at the harder monster early on like the Anjanath. It took me 100s of hours to actually finish the story and I was still going back to farm and collect equipment. I got Monster Hunter Rise on the switch when it came out and it wasn’t as great. The fun parts of the game were the wire bug allowing you to zip to new areas and heights allowing more open areas to explore. The palamutes were also fun as they let you get to areas fast and you had full control over them. However, the need to change your “necklace?” To get more health, stamina, strength, defense and having to find the bugs that do so wasn’t so great and I found myself ignoring them most of the time. The monsters didn’t feel like they were programmed for more than 2 or 4 attacks as they mostly spammed a single move over 5 to 7 times making it hard to attack them. The one thing I wished was in World from Rise was the ability to gain money through expeditions. Overall, I wish for a Monster Hunter World 2 was over the horizon more than another like Rise. (My first official Monster Hunter game was Stories on the 3DS. World was the official mainline game for me)

All the side content and different types of hunts gave enough variety to keep on playing, which was the main reason Rise couldn't keep me hooked for long periods of time. Graphics in general don't really bother me that much, since most games I play are indie/pixel-art games these days, but Rise having a lot less grahpical power to work with really shows how much corners it had to cut in order to function on the Switch.

I'm a 38-year-old fellow who has been a hunter since the PS2 and PSP era (although I didn't play MHGU/X on the Switch). When Monster Hunter World (MHW) was first revealed, I was both happy and skeptical at the same time because I felt like MHW was a different game compared to its predecessors, with its artwork and graphics. But oh man, apart from Freedom Unite, World was the best for me. The environment feels so alive, with awesome graphics, and I felt like a legitimate boots-on-the-ground hunter. Even though I have a Switch, I waited until they ported MHR to PS5. I have the option to play it on PC, but my friends don't play on PC. After playing Rise and Sunbreak, and even though we all reached MR and HR 999 in MHW, my friends and I decided to return to MHW since months back and never looked back at Rise (our last Rise was during the title updates 4 & 5, when Primordial Malzeno was released). But after a few games, we returned to MHW. I just hope that the next title is a sequel to World (MHW2) built from the ground up for the latest consoles and PC, with crossplay and save compatibility.

As a person who started the series at Generations Ultimate on the switch, I don't feel like rise/sunbreak is a step backwards in the slightest. Namely because it is still the same core idea, just reimagined in a unique way. Also both games have their ups and downs like clutch claw from world being horrendous and clunky unless you played hammer and was a requirement in a lot of the fights and the less diversity of ecology in rise/sunbreak. Also, an important thing to keep in mind is that World is more focused on deliverying explanations of how the monsters interact and the flow of energy compared to games such as rise and gen which were more keen on the combat and less on the backgrounds and ecology. Either way, the teams always deliver whether it be through experimental ideas that are a bit out there or the grounded connections to be drawn from the monsters to real world ecology.

My first Monster Hunter (MH) game was MH Freedom 2, and I've noticed a common sentiment among players: the first MH game someone plays tends to have a lasting impact, influencing their ability to appreciate the natural evolution of the series. Rise wasn’t designed to supersede World or to be the ultimate MH experience. Instead, it offers a different approach to the game, introducing a fresh gameplay loop for players to immerse themselves in. The more MH games you play, the more you come to enjoy these variations. It's completely normal to return to older MH games because you miss them. Even with the upcoming launch of Wilds, some will go back to World or Rise, recognizing that they are distinct experiences. Personally, I often return to Generations with my friends because I find myself missing the classic hunting mechanics.

Fighting mythical titans like Zorah Magdaros, Velkhana, Alatreon, etc. these are all done as a necessity for survival and only a couple of monsters are exceptions to this. While I have moved onto other games in my backlog, I've opened it up to my friends and said that if they were ever interested in diving into Monster Hunter, I would gladly replay World to join them on their journey. MH as a series is my top 3 franchises alongside the Dark Souls series and the Legend of Zelda series. I would love to see another weapon type added to the game in Gen 6 (gauntlets please).

@@Yokai_Yuri i know people put world on a pedestal but rise/sunbreak legitimately just do have better combat design. the maps are better designed as arenas, every weapon has more moves and more options. sets are vastly more diverse in sunbreak with skills like dereliction, dragon conversion, adrenaline rush, powder mantle... the list goes on. almost every returning monster got their moveset cleaned up to, which world did not really try to do out of some specific exceptions like rajang (who is better in world I will admit) and barroth (who they made exceedingly easy for some reason). monsters that felt bad to fight before world still feel bad to fight in world; rathalos, rathian, yian garuga, kushala. additionally, rise lacks the filler you're forced to do every quest that world has. no tracking footprints which serves zero purpose other than being fluff, no having to crawl through tiny holes that take 10 seconds to get through every time you wanna leave certain camps, no raider ride nonsense, and no ancient forest layout bullshit. you just go to the monster, and hunt the monster. and the monster is more fun to fight than anything in base world (which was straight up bad imo), and more fun than a lot in iceborne still (which i thought was good). world is just a different game. it's slow, it has you do things that are unnecessary, it has antiquated fight design, and it has environments that can be cumbersome or actively unfun to be in. rise cuts that all away. having better graphics (fidelity, not style) and being one of the ones who like the pre-hunt systems will be the only reasons people like world over rise. frankly, despite rise's obvious downgrade in visual fidelity, i think most of its effects on monsters actually look better than world. comparing zinogre from both games lets you easily see this. i wouldn't normally go out of my way to present this like an objective "rise is better" but you're just wrong so i had to lol

In world, it feels like every weapon is made for a specific niche by doing (roughly) one thing, but doing it really well. In rise, every weapon is or can be very fast and combo based, every weapon has big hitters, dodges, counters, power armor, personnal buffs, it kills the uniqueness of every weapon a bit. i like both, my friend had trouble getting me into monster hunter in general until rise came out. i dont know what worked in rise for me that changed things. there are pros and cons to both games. I love the wirebug and extra movement in rise, but i dont like mounting so much. It just breaks up the pace of combat in a really annoying way. In world mounting is very fun and impactful, but i dont like the rest of the crossbow mechanics. Rise has more quality of life changes that I missed in world. I really love the general monster behavior in world, and the maps feel more dynamic. HOWEVER, the more i play world the more i dislike the forest. It is such a tangled mess chock full of invisible walls that i dont see myself ever being able to navigate it without the guide. Actually the invisible walls are pretty bad in world, it looks wide and expansive but is actually about as open as a cave. all those pretty visuals come a a cost and this is it. Rise has these kinda obvious arena locations and the monsters really dont like fighting anywhere else, they then move around like its the end of their shift. its really lame when you think about it too much. The ideal monster hunter game would have the best of both games. also world has an absolutely horrible co-op experience, thats probably why it didnt work for me before rise. ... for Rise, when playing alone or with friends, SpiritBirds mod isnt cheating. I also recommend removing kill cam, alphabetized skill lists, auto-argosy, and improved monster notes.

I actually haven't play World Iceborne yet, started with Rise Sunbreak this year. I've put in a good amount of time on my own but put it on the back burner so that I still have some stuff to do when I can play with my friends, none of them have started yet. However, it's not the only MH game I've played. Once I decided to take a break from Rise Sunbreak for the above stated reason (and after rolling credits on NG++ in Armored Core 6), I put more focus into 4 Ultimate and Generations Ultimate and I'm having a blast with those two. I'm even playing 4 Ultimate multiplayer with my brother on original 3DS hardware, thank goodness you can still play online. I do plan on getting World Iceborne in December during the Steam winter sale and I'm sure I'll enjoy it, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't have some reservations about it based on what I know. For one, it looks so artistically different from every other game in the series, even Rise Sunbreak. I really enjoy the art style of the old world MH games, and Rise honestly takes a lot of cues from the art style of those old games, just with higher fidelity graphics (though not as high as World obviously). I don't like the idea of decorations being randomly generated, it sounds like an absolute nightmare to make a build around and I don't know if I'd be able to stomach the endgame if my entire build is at the whim of RNG. The aspect of live service time limited events is also just generally unappealing. I like that events in every other game kinda just stick around for you to do at your liesure. Having to wait for one to show up and frantically get your fill of it doesn't sound great. I'm sure I'll generally enjoy the game, but those are just things about the game I'm not sure I'd like going into it.

Any quest you post will be filled withing about a minute, dispite it being an older game. Now that MH 6 has been revealed, i imagine the numbers are going to skyrocket, as people thirsty for MH dive back into world. So lets go! We have more than a year before MH 6 comes out, plenty of time to lose yourself again, or for the first time im MH World!

Train spotting? Or train layouts....Either one is great. My son is into that we sometimes go "hunting" for the latest heritage units on CLX or Norfolk Southern. But yea, I still love MH. And BTW, you have to try Primodial. Don't be shy. Well, it's probably not on the level of Fatalis but will get your blood boiling. I have to yet beat fatalis so I went back to world and will play some SnS. My first go was with the bow and it was not so good. I learnt SnS in Sunbreak and now want to bring my skills back to Iceborne.

Contrast that with Basel and Deviljo who if they are on the map can relentlessly attack you and the monster you are fighting forcing the battle to change. Whats funny in World is that some normally weak monsters can drive these powerful monsters away. Ex: Basel is beaten by Tzi-ya-ku and Deviljo is beaten by Radoban.

Honestly bro, I was skeptical because I really have been loving rise since I gave it a second chance. I think the addition of wire bugs is fantastic, that and the addition of switch skills packs the gameplay with so much entertainment I think. I personally hope that Wilds finds a way to maintain the wire bug movement, even if they decide to remove the bugs themselves. To me Monster Hunter as a character game works perfectly.

I'm playing through Sunbreak now after a long break. It's a ton of fun, but I almost always find myself wishing for the slower and more methodical gameplay of Iceborne. Every monster feels like it's ramped up to 11 in speed and aggression which is fun, but really just emphasizes how every class has (and practically requires) counters just to have a say in the fight. I felt like there was a lot more room to read and adjust to even the fastest monsters in Iceborne, while a lot of Sunbreak monsters just kind of interrupt things with instant turns, short animations and jank(ier) hitboxes. My friend recently picked up World as their first Monster Hunter game and I'm thrilled to have an excuse to go back and play it again. What's the outro music btw? It's an absolute banger.

Man I could talk ad nauseum on this subject... MHW was just one of those amazing games that ticked all the right boxes. Just like Skyrim, and many others it made for amazing memorable moments. I think the core reason a lot of people are coming back to the game is look at what's happening with so many other game devolpers, Diablo 4, Destiny 2, Overwatch 2, COD, etc. etc. All these developers are ruining their own games. Every community is rife with animosity and anger towards the game and towards the companies. Coming back to MHW, at least for me, was like a breath of fresh air from the shit show around us. It was the return an amazing adventure and falling in love again. You're exactly right on how MHW feels. I can time my weapons just by their feeling, which is something not many games ever got right. Weapons FEEL phenomenal in this game. I hope so much that MH6 is a return to the MHW design on console. It would be a MAJOR success if they do.

Yeah I remember when World was fresh off release and it instantly attracted a lot of Destiny players who were dissapointed with the state of the sequel at the time (not sure if they still feel that way, I'm not a Destiny player). It was also the same with Warframe, both it and MHW were scratching an itch the loot and grind gameplay community was really looking for.

I felt the weapons are kinda weightlessness compared to before :''") The impact of the hit, the particles, the weapons actually feeling heavy limiting movement cause they are big weapons, all that felt like it was gone in world and rise with how mobile every weapon is and how weak the "Tink"-like hits feel. Using longsword in mhfu after playing with it in world made me realize that x'd

You just gotta get good. Whenever a monster ran off I jumped on top of my insect glaive, swung over to the monster and mounted it the whole way to its destination. Hell, sometimes when i mounted a fleeing monster i would manage to break a part or knock it over and stop it from running entirely. Monster hunter Rise didn't fix this with their game... They just made it a way easier and way more casual friendly game.

I've done just about everything you can do in MHW, all achievements, HR999/MR999, finished all quests, have every KT weapon, have every decoration available (and enough of each to max out skills), soloed everything that was meant to be soloable lol. The game is a masterpiece. The one thing I will say that MHW does so well over MHR is that the game gives you a lot of reasons to WANT to play in that universe, to keep you coming back, that aren't just based around fighting the monster. The social aspect of the game cannot be understated. When Rise went back to 4 player lobbies and a worse matchmaking system, you lost a lot of that community and camaraderie. There weren't many things that could separate a player from doing a certain quest with another player, and those were easily overcome. Unless you have a set group of friends that you can play with regularly in Rise, you're just not going to have that longevity. Playing with others is what makes the games shine, and MHR just doesn't do it that well. MHR's fast everything mentality was a double edged sword. Everything was fast, even rewards and gratification, that it quickly became hollow. There was little satisfaction in putting together your armor sets, as they made them require less materials but more zenny instead. Finding that rare decoration drop did not happen as decorations went back to being crafted, and there was no achievement in getting them, only fulfilling a checkbox of finding the material or achieving a certain level. MHR went so fast that the player didn't care to stop and appreciate what was there, and when they did, they found stages devoid of life and purpose. Stages, while you could go everywhere, were mere arenas to fight the monster. Other monsters were merely tools to use against the monster you're hunting. Endemic life in the stage were just powerups to collect to use as tools. The way the game is designed wasn't meant for stopping and smelling the roses. I hope MH6 builds upon MHW and continues in the same trend. I hope they build another world where players want to spend time in. I hope MH6 releases on current consoles and PC at the same time, and offer crossplay (the new Capcom ID would hint at such). MHW has shown what the series can be, while still being a MH game at its core. We need to keep moving forward and evolving what the game could be. It doesn't have to be a direct sequel to MHW, but it definitely should not be building upon what MHR is.

Well...I feel that rise did some awesome stuff tbh. The switch skills and armor builds stuck out to me. Switch skills can be very awesome, because they can solve certain issues that one's weapon can have. For instance, I'm a bow user, so stamina is a big concern for me. In Rise, there's a switch skill that helps out with that. Plus, I've felt that you can do a hefty amount of building the armor sets to your liking once you figure out how to place the puzzle pieces. I've been dead set on jampacking as many useful skills as I could into my builds, and I've been able to succeed. Plus, if you use a weapon that takes advantage of stamina........the armor skill Furious will make life SOOOO good. These are but a few examples of Rise doing stuff right in my opinion. We haven't even gotten into other aspects like the story and the side characters (which is epic to the point of making YOU feel like a side character, lol).
