You have literally taken the words right out of my mouth. I have been saying these exact things for years! This is a fantastic video!
I've dropped Adobe for all the things I need. The closest I've found for Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign is Affinity Photo, Designer, and Publisher and they do everything I need without the Adobe tax. I haven't done much on the video editing front but it looks like DaVinci Resolve is going to fill that space quite nicely and for effects work and 3D it looks like Blender will do a lot. I did download Natron but haven't had the opportunity to learn much about it yet. Looking at your video the interoperability of Adobe's apps with each other looks highly overblown and I have no need to have their fangs in my bank account month after month, year after year, for their buggy software.
Great summary, unfortunately adobe is right now something you can't get away from, especially if you're a 3d artist, there simply is no valid alternative to substance painter and designer. Speaking of, substance 2023 has just been released on steam and of course it couldn't go without more scummy practices. For the record, Substance 2022 was released in November 2021 during the black friday sale and was under a big discount for everyone, the 2023 version was pushed back 2 months just to avoid it and gave discount only to existing users and had a big price hike. The steam licence still operates the same way, you get free updates until the end of the year, for 2022 version it was until the end of 2022, so you get 13 months, for 2023 version which released at the beginning of February this year you get 11 months, and you pay 20% more for that. More than that, Adobe still doesn't provide regional prices in many places and the costs can become quite absurd.

you CAN its just challenging. Blender is slowly adopting better, new ways of doing things like the surface paint feature and such is nice but isn't as easy to use as substance painter. Witch are 90% of Blenders problem atm if you ask me. Otherwise the raw capability is there. Blender is more user friendly in every way but its interface though. I don't think they are going to try to sue users or start charging money anytime soon. Ill probably end up donating like 150$ to blender just to prove a point. I gave adobe that just for the paint feature. why not blender when I use it for literally everything else? I will give Adobe credit, im really glad they release on steam now. And it makes more sense to me to buy it for a year, get updates for a year. Own that years version forever. But have to pay again for superior features of a new year version. ANd Adobe needs to come up with features that keep me coming back. Or just sell me something i can take home and actually know i can have in my toolbox for good even if its not the most powerful and up to date. Thatats totally better than logging into a launcher, paying subscription and still having to buy each package seperately, THEN only having access for that subscription... NO. I ONLY got substance painter because they gave me something i asked for. They are still jerks with their marketing. But hopefully both adobe continues to ease up and be more user friendly, And I'm still rooting for blender to adopt a more user friendly interface. (If you read all this +1 to you.)

Because at the end of the day, your client did not care what software you use, all they want is the result. Your skills matter, not because it "InDusTry StAndArD" then you must follow it...

Adobe is the standard, but with time other software is moving in to usurp their dominance and stranglehold on the creatives out there!
(6:02) Not only what you mentioned, but some non-fiction books that teach design teach them using Adobe software if they weren't written for a specific application. For example, "The Essential Guide to Comic Book Lettering" bases its guides on Adobe Illustrator on macOS, likely because the author uses Adobe CC as he often worked with major comic book publishers (according to a portfolio found somewhere on his website) that likely use it too, and I had been wanting to create unofficial addenda or supplementary notes to show how to perform the same steps in Inkscape (probably on some version of desktop Linux), but never got around to doing so as I'm working on other projects. As I clued into, this video does remind me of how I plan to base my guides on FOSS alternatives where possible.
Finally someone who makes sense👏👏Thanks for the video

David McGavern moved from Adobe to Maxon in 2018, it seems like he’s attempting a similar playbook with Maxon One. I think there’s some hope for Adobe, look at substance on steam. Rapid development sprints, fair pricing. I hope that trend continues.

Not for long, mate. Adobe is popular for ruining whatever it touches.
Thats why you need to pirate the software and disconnect it from creative cloud so it exists as a offline version. Problem solved.
I abandoned Adobe a decade ago and have never looked back. They had the audacity to charge me over $100 for the privilege of quitting their hated subscription model. The stability and features of open source products far outweighs any lack of compliance with industry standards.
You forgot about DECADES of technical debt. Performance on After Effects and Premiere is atrocious. Also how Windows versions of programs are having worse performance and less stable than their Mac counterparts. These programs code should be rewritten YEARS ago.
After getting very successful many company gets greedy and arrogant.😑

Dropped Adobe years ago and haven't regretted it a bit, funny enough your vid was preceded by an Adobe advert. Sadly I have had to drop a number of my preferred apps due more to my software being changed to a subscriber system despite purchasing them outright in the first place. Its as bad as online streaming services of any kind you cant afford them all so you end up dropping them all.
What alternatives do you all use?
I found many open source softwares to be better and better and I like very much the recent development of Blender, but also Inkscape and Krita. Job descriptions should mention what has to be done (like documents for print or web, illustrations in TIFF or JPEG format, movies etc) and not what software to use.
@euclois
Жыл бұрын
Job descriptions say what software you need to know for practical reasons. Studios buy licenses for specific softwares, and work in a certain environment. If a studio uses Revit instead of Archicad, and I only work with Archicad, I won't really fit in unless i learn Revit. I can't be producing different files incompatible with what my co-workers are working with, and I also can't demand the studio/office to purchase a license of my desired software.
Free alternatives like Photopea (Photoshop), Inkscape (Illustrator) Scribus (InDesign) and Dark matter (Lightroom). Some of these are better and do exactly what abode's product does. I use these when I do my personal projects. There are even some products like Abode where you don't have to pay for a subscription.

Don’t worry Bois In future we will have AI programs that built other programs, therefore we will create our own script tools to use only what’s necessary for our design workflows
I have the same sentiments about Reallusion. You spend $700 on one of their products, and when they update it to the next version, for example, version 2.4 to 2.5, you have to buy the new version 2.5 at $700 again, then when they update that to 2.6, you'll have to spend another $700 again. It's like spending $700 every year for just one of their products.
It's a shame Affinity don't do an equivalent to Lightroom (yet)., I did some napkin maths: Photoshop/Illustrator/Indesign - £718.92 per year. Affinity Photo/Designer/Publisher - £159.99 for the current version including upgrades until v3 (around 20-25% off if upgrading). V1 released in 2015 - making the upgrade price a steal.
Minor correction, for movies adobe isn't used much, maybe substance painter. VFX industry is entirely on Linux and avoid Adobe very much. Compositing, Paint and Roto use Nuke, SilhouetteFX, MochaPro etc. for 99.9% of the cases. 3D uses Maya, Blender, Houdini, Clarisse etc, Editing, Color Grading and Audio mostly use DaVinci Resolve Contrary to popular belief, Adobe products or FinalCut are almost never used.
I use Arch btw. Kdenlive and Davinci Resolve are good!
Adobe is one of the single biggest pain points for me as a designer. I HATE how tied the industry is to Adobe. It’s buggy, overpriced software, but I have to use it at my job. Not to mention the painfully obvious greed from the company. If I had the choice I would switch software immediately.

My sister works for a large international animation company. I won't name them. Anyway, they are big - not Disney big, but big. In the last couple of years they've switched to DaVinci Resolve, and other free apps where possible, rather than have their narrow margins squeezed by Adobe. For everyone thinking that Adobe is an invincible giant, the tech landscape is littered with corpses of dead goliaths.
5:47 casually wraps bird in plastic
Interesting video, but you should be more precise, when it comes to losing access to your files if you stop your subscription. First because savvy users don't leave all their working files on Adobe Cloud. Adobe cloud system is less reliable than others like Dropbox, Google Drive, etc. Plus, it lacks features like selective synchronisation (being able to sync only the files that you want, so you don't run out of space on your local hard drive) and backup with easy recovery. Second, if you stop your subscription, Adobe leaves you 90 days to download or remove all of your files from their cloud. I feel like it's currently hype to bash Adobe, but one must be fair when listing all the pros and cons.
I’m deadobifying my life but it’s a slow painful process. I don’t have a need for most of their software and I don’t use their cloud storage, but still several years of habits and shortcuts are hard to unlearn…
I was shown an ad for creative cloud before this video started lol

A lot of good points, but "not having access to your files" is just silly. If you store files in the cloud, meaning any offsite storage service, and you cancel your subscription to that service, of course you're going to lose access. Just back up the files locally. Interestingly, Adobe apps are now trying to strong-arm you into saving to the cloud instead of locally.

1. It's not illegal, you paid for the subscription and agreed to the TOS. 2. Programs like Lightroom don't have the option for locally storing files, and even then it's a waste of storage to keep everything locally. It's also more convenient to keep them stored in the cloud, because then you can seamlessly and easily edit files between multiple devies 3. They get deleted after 30 days 4. No? 5. That's a stupid question. It straight up says when you delete a file you permanently delete it from the cloud. Adobe also has no reasons to keep deleted files, as it's a waste of storage.
Do be fair the idea of a subscription based model is a good idea. The problem is that in order for you to get the full Adobe experience just for 1 software you have to get plugins that cost twice as much as the actual product which increases the cost of 300€ a year to about 900-1200€ a year

Another reason why i hate adobe only a little bit is that, and because my school has an animation class that uses Adobe Animate, the supposed certification for Adobe Animate only lasts for 2 years and im in my senior year of highschool so it would literally be useless halfway thru my college years and i use blender as my more dominant animation software. Adobe honestly sucks, tho 3d substance painter and modeler are still really nice
Industry standard or not, I wouldn't pay for Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc., to save my life. A freelancer has a smorgasbord of alternative graphic art/design tools to choose from, including CorelDRAW, GIMP, Inkscape, Photopea, Krita, Affinity Photo, Affinity Designer, Blender, even MS PowerPoint, etc.; and he/she need not give a rodent's rear of concern for Adobe and their asinine and exploitative monthly subscription model.
Me who got Adobe's ad while watching the video...
You forgot to mention, Adobe never hunt down individuals for using pirated software. They can feed on big company or studio and that’s enough profit for them. So technically you can think Adobe is free for individual? 😮 I never understand charging cancellation fee for a digital product. It is not like there is a cost to cancel subscription. everything is done automatically.
I purchase one and only one adobe product and that is substance from Steam. Other that, Adobe isn’t worth it for the money nor do I trust them with my projects.
Artists always get shafted. Windows 11 owns all your work according to them... It's all closing in on us we will own nothing. Not even our own work and time.

Try Linux Mint, especially if you an old banger of a machine you don't mind experimenting with. I've been amazed by how easy it's been to adapt to. Feature called TIMESHIFT allows you to take system snapshots in case you mess something up and need to roll back (as I'm definitely NOT a command line guru).
5:58, I wouldn't say that's neccesarily true. While there are defiantly many programs that are on par with Adobe's software, programs like After Effects, Photoshop, and even Acrobat are 100% the best in their fields. Does Afinity photo have Ai built in? no. Does Fusion support easy compatibility with 3rd party software, like Cinema 4d? no. Especially with more AI enhancements like Project Fast Fill, or Project DubDubDub, there are no actual competitors in those fields. For as much as people like to hate on Adobe, most of their programs are still the best in their feilds.

NUKE > AE.
I stopped all Adobe subscriptions about 3 years ago. I ended up getting Substance Painter via Steam but found that 3D Coat's Painting Suite works better so I will not be using Substance after this year. Adobe is a rip off! And I started with Photoshop when it was first released in '82 or 3.
Fun Fuct : this video edited by Adobe software XD

I love Krita & OpenToonz.
Photoshop is slow for a 2d application. Just exporting a 4K jpg or png takes considerably more time than GIMP or Affinity
That shifting of colours effect isn't great on the eyes, sickly to look at! I thought my eyesight was playing up.
think about the subscription model and cbdc. A cbdc system can be used as a seocial credit dictatorship. If you dont fall in line, no Adobe for you - no freelance gigs for you. Also, you will own nothing…
Why nobody talks about affinity

I did a wordsearch, it's been mentioned 23 times already.
Just Pirate ez
Dude i tried buying after effects and its expensive It angers me
The sue part is about Pantone. Pantone is the company that pulled their code and went subscription. I doubt anybody would get sued but this seems like cover your ass legal shit.
Just photoshop is the product which I use.
Why? Serious? I am one of the first 100 owners of Photoshop, so I have been with them. But... I stopped using it the minute they went to the subscription model. and... I'll never buy another Adobe product because of the WOKE culture they embraced. As far as I am concerned RIP Adobe.
They actively monitor the files you are creating and using. They are also reviewing your work for racial and offensive content.
I hate Adobe! I hate that it constantly is occupying my screen space proposing that I buy something. I never wanted it on my computer. I deeply resent that it takes regular additional key strokes (have a disability) to decline to buy something. STOP SELLING ME IN MY OWN SPACE!!
