Why Everybody's WRONG About Chelsea

Спорт

With striker Nicolas Jackson misfiring, it's been a disastrous start to the season for Chelsea. But a look at the "underlying numbers" shows that this isn't just an average team missing a few chances, but one of the best teams in the Premier League on the cusp of having a great season.

Reece and Nkunku alone are HUGE losses, let alone all the other injuries. As a Chelsea fan, I saw the great form in preseason and I believe in this project when the team is healthy. We just need stability in terms of coaching (don’t fire Poch!) and a healthier XI. The flux of managers, injuries, and new young players coming into the prem/the team will eventually stabilize 🙏🏿

I think it’s time we start to have doubts about reece James’ value to the team. I hope for him that he can shake off his proneness to injury, but as good as he is when he’s playing, he’s not been available enough since his debut. If he had been less unfortunate with the injuries he’d no doubt be one of world footballs biggest stars.

Most of these games where Chelsea lost by a goal or conceded a bad one, the criticism has never been that they were outplayed. It has always been that they failed to score. It's not a problem of Poch but all the three four managers before him. This was a problem for Thomas Tuchel as well but he was lucky to have players like James and Chilwell score. Chelsea have not had a good striker ever since Diego Costa and that is the biggest concern. It is just a matter of putting those goals in and then we would be having a very different conversation. It would be the same pundits who would then opine to say yes Chelsea are building something. Besides the guy has just had 6 games. Half his squad is injured. Give him damn time. Just because Todd went bollocks with money doesn't mean Chelsea has to win the PL in game week 6. Keep calm and trust the process.

Finally! Great breakdown of what many of us Chelsea fans see. I think the media needs a headline, and it isn’t a sexy take to say we’re really good (no offense), we just can’t put the ball in the net. It’s easier and more dramatic to say we’ve spent a billion dollars and are still in 14th place, worse than last season. But for those of us who haven’t completely blocked last season from our minds, we are light years better now than we were then! We couldn’t break a team down, we were boring and unimaginative in build up, we couldn’t create high percentage chances, we were extremely predictable, our coach(es) somehow managed to constantly change formations yet fail to change the actual weak spots… and we couldn’t put the ball in the net! Yes, the losses are paaaainful, but with each game, I see a little more creativity, another player step up, a clearer strategy, and other positives. We’ll get there!

My only concern with our team is sterling for me he’s lazy off the ball never see him pressing to win the ball back and he is far to greasy on the ball. Some might say he’s scores most of our goals but that’s because he wants individual glory rather than a team win villa showed that 2 on 1 with the keeper and instead of the side tap around the keeper for Jackson to slide it home he tried do it all alone. Last night Chilwell picked up one and could be out for a while, we just can’t catch a break at the minute. Admittedly, it can go either way but I remember watching Frank Rijkaard takeover Barcelona in 2003, Spain national team in 2006, Belgium national team in 2014, Liverpool under Kloop and Arsenal under Arteta and seeing that they had everything needed to absolutely dominate. The starts are always slow and sometimes look like impending disasters but what has come from that has been historical. Of course Belgium didn't win anything and Arsenal have not won the league but you cannot deny how each teams presence and performances have been memorable. Chelsea will suffer a little longer before things finally come together, I just hope Poch is given all the backing he needs.

I think the main thing to remember is in a team with the lowest average age in the league, most of the time nerves will hit and it will affect performance. I think our very young squad affects our many confidence issues with our squad.

Brilliant analysis, I’ve been to most games this season and thought we have been dominating pretty much every game possession wise, and the only downside is being wasteful in front of goal. We have been pretty strong defensively, with a few mistakes which is expected from younger players. I mean people are crying after 6 games like most these players aren’t here for 8 years. Calm down, give the boys time and results will come

My next question would be how does Chelsea's stats this season compare to Pochettino 's previous averages. And I'd wonder how teams who have shown similar trends in the past have performed to try, to get a feeling for what stage of a teams/manager journey we would normally expect them to be in

Remember Conte's first season? 2016-17? In the month of September, Chelsea earned only a single point out of nine available points and were in eighth place in the Premier League :) We all know how it ended up. This season might not be the same, becoming champions is unlikely, but there's still a chance they will finish quite high in the league.

We’ve also played the worst teams in the league though in term of teams that don’t want the ball and just wanna counterattack so of course our “numbers” look good. Yesterday we beat Brighton and it was an ok performance but they had more of the ball so it kinda makes me feel like we’re only keeping the ball and generating a lot of activity around the opposition’s box because they want us to attack so they can counterattack. Also we had Lukaku, if the problem really is just putting the ball in the net then he’s a better striker than Jackson cause he will score if he gets chances. I don’t know until I see us win back to back games I’m not gonna be optimistic

The speed of this team is frightening and if the speed of thought starts to align with it, also fueled by more confidence, understanding and predictability, they are really going to hurt some feelings.

So the thing about Chelsea is that most people only see the result without watching the game or looking at the status of the roster... bit the only thing that matters is the results. However, they have basically a starting 11 of injuries and are still dominating teams in everyway except the scoreline. It eventually HAS to click or this is going to end as one of the worst season in history for them.
