Btw, to CLARIFY-he injured himself building a driveway for his mom, not mowing his lawn! And he had a second back injury plus bone spurs on both feet necessitating double Achilles surgery. If you watch the video where Larry’s back doctor talks about what Larry had to do to keep his spine in place just to play for a few hours…including traction & braces, then you see how ignorant your comment IS.

Larry Bird wasn't as physically or athletically gifted as the average NBA player. However, he was skilled at accurate technique and ability to read the flow of the game. He particularly excelled in medium- and long-range shooting, rebounding, and passing (assist) techniques. He is one of the best three-point shooters in the league, and uses his unique form to carry the ball on his shoulders to sink many shots. The only other player as tall and as good as Bird was Magic Johnson.

In 1979, if the Celtics hadn't traded their first round draft pick for Bob McAdoo, and then they had lost just 3 more games, it would have been they and not the Lakers (who got the pick from the New Orleans Jazz) participating in the coin flip for the #1 pick against the Bulls. The Celtics were that close to having both Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. And they still would have had the pieces to execute the trade which brought them Robert Parish and the draft pick that became Kevin McHale.

Small correction. McAdoo brought the Celtics #1 overall draft pick from the Pistons, which, in turn, was flipped to the Warriors in the Parish-McHale trade, so maybe that trade doesn't get made if they don't acquire McAdoo. On the other hand, McAdoo cost the Cs three future first round picks, so maybe they can do something with those to get the Detroit deal made. Interesting thing about the McAdoo trade is that the owner made it without Red Auerbach's knowledge or consent, Auerbach was so mad that he was going to quit and take a job with the Knicks before he was talked out of it. The Magic Johnson-Larry Bird team-up part of the comment still stands, however.

1:22 - I notice Kidd is on here twice. His rookie season in Dallas is 20th, and his first season with the Nets is 10th. And I know his first season in Phoenix he/they also made history as well, as the Suns started the 1997 season 0-13 before trading for Kidd in late December, they would go onto have an 11 game winning streak after trading for Kidd, and they are the only team to ever make the playoffs with a double-digit losing streak, and also the only team to ever have both a double-digit losing streak (before Kidd trade) and a double-digit winning streak (after Kidd trade) in the same season. Not relevant to the GREAT Larry Bird, but something I thought some NBA fans might find interesting.

The funny thing about this is everyone really knows Jordan won the mvp all 6 years they won the championship. He should have 3 in a row twice but the league made sure to give Karl Malone and Charles Barkley mvps out of charity, because Jordan was so dominant it was getting boring that they were trying to make it more interesting by pretending he had competition. But just look at the stats we all know who the best player in the league was. Like I forget who won the championships the years Charles and Karl won mvp?

Bird average 10 rpg in era of giants & big men with McHale & Parish HOF big men team mates. Bird would push 15 rpg in current era. Bird in current era if he had green light & he average 10 so + 7 ppg so he be 30s. Bird as a team mate to HOF PG had 6 apg with no HOF pg he likely get 3 more apg. Bird in the era everyone stats deflated when the Sixers & Pistons are tackling players even with back injuries had 26/10/6 in modern era small ball we’re Bird be a giant with better passing, size, shooting & rebounding than Luka maybe Nikola beats him in rebounding he be 33/14/9 now in his apex 35/15/10 would be a possible stat line a league we’re Green was considered DPOY.

Julius Erving was the ABA Regular Season MVP 3 straight years (co-MVP with George McGinnis in 1975) from 1974 to 1976. Doing those years, he was also: two-time scoring champion, 2-time ABA playoff MVP , 2-time ABA champion, first slam dunk champion. Bonus: Doctor J is 6-2-0 against Michael Jordan in head-to-head contests and he and his Sixers teams gave Larry Legend and the great Celtic teams all they could handle in the 80s. The Sixers and Celtics were the greatest NBA team rivalry in the 80s, not the Celtics and Lakers.

Even if tnese "young bucks" dont want to give Bird his proper place on the all time great list, and if they wanna downplay the competition (for some bizarre reason), fine. Its opinion, no matter how wrong it is, and its not like anyone is out there saying Bird sucked. HOWEVER, what any young man, ESPECIALLY those with legit NBA dreams, SHOULD do with Bird, is continually watch, read, and talk about, stuff and stories in videos like this. Work ethic Integrity Drive Unbeatable competitiveness And prob the hardest one to exhibit, but underrated in its importance, CONFIDENCE. Confidence can lead to bad decision making and selfishness, but that would probably be because they arent at the right level with the 1st four. Proper, warranted Confidence once you realize that you can back it up, can lead to things mentioned in this video, and what you hear about the greats that are at the top of all 5 of those traits; and of course im talking about INSTILLING FEAR in your opponent at multiple times before and during a game. You hit 3, 4 in a row, and start exhibiting confidence that others start to notice, shiiiiit... youll have your opponents scrambling, their coach sweating, changing game plans. Like Mike said in this video, the mind games are always the best way to throw an opponent off their entire game.
