Count Dooku always had a soft spot for Obi-Wan. He basically viewed him as a pseudo grandson. Maybe that played a part in the gaps he left in General Grievous's training.

@@kurtpunchesthings2411 Even Yoda says that kenobi was not a soresu master: he was the soresu master. Anakin and Kenobi dueled often, so both both boosted their abilities as duelists, mainly kenobi who was never expected to become what he become: one of the best duelists of the jedi order by far. And I'm not even touching the matter of his connection to the force, he had no fear because (probably learned with Qui-Gon) no matter what he got in front of him he saw it as the will of the force and he would "just" deliver himself completely to the light side which was a major feature and advantage regarding most of the Jedi at the time.

I think that this was actually an act of sabotage by Dooku. Sideous constantly attempted to kill Obi-wan, laying numerous traps and sending Grevious after him throughout the duration of the Clone Wars. Sideous had hoped that Obi-wan's death would drive Anakin further to the dark side. But Dooku saw Obi-wan as his grandson, and refused to kill him even in his final battle in front of Palpatine aboard the Invisible Hand. I think Dooku (subconsciously or consciously) trained Grevious this way on purpose in direct defiance of Sideous's wishes.

The old mandalorians had a philosophy about dealing with jedi. It basically delt with extremes, their idea was that the best way to guarantee that you would kill a jedi would be to glass the planet they were on, but even then it wasn't guaranteed to work. Meaning some jedi were tenacious or powerful enough to withstand the planet they were on being glassed. I'm guessing that Obi-wan would of been one of these jedi. In fact, on this wise I think he is more powerful than Anakin in this regard. I'm not quite sure what Anakin/Darth Vader would of done at the height of their mortal power to withstand such a thing, but Obi-wan was an expert of being still and listening to the force. His tenacity with the force's help would allow him to survive anything the force wanted him to. Side note, this is why I dislike a lot of the new "cannon" about Obi-Wan. They turned a man who was stalwart and immovable into a blubbering idiot in the end... Dude got the Luke treatment hard...

The same reason Kit Fisto bested Grevious. Kit Fisto being THE master of Form 1 made him an incredibly unpredictable duelist, very well rounded offensively and defensively. Take into account he did not fear Grevious as his former padawan had, he was able to keep Grevious heavily on the defense, something he had difficulty with. Fisto was completely dominating the engagement until the 3 Magnaguards came into play. You could tell how centered Fisto was the whole fight, completely in control.

I have an interesting thought about this video and a previous one that you had done about a year ago titled "Why Obi Wan terrified Count Dooku during their final fight" or close to that. So this video implies that Dooku knew of Obi Wans mastery of Soresu and hence one of the biggest factors Dooku knew he would beat Grevious. Also in your other video you'd mentioned that the reason Dooku was terrified of Obi Wan was because of his shocking mastery of Soresu and for other reasons too but the key thing I'm pointing out is when did Dooku know of Obi Wans mastery of Soresu or am I missing something?

Odd that Kenobi wasn't held in much regard from Grevious even though Kenobi proved to be Grevious's ARCH rival, for the most part, the Cyborg noting how his Master repeatedly defeating Kenobi or fighting him to a draw is 1 thing. But there's big differences between Grevious an Dooku an think that was part of what a where Dooku was getting at. Dooku an Grevious seemed to be the Clone War Darkside counterparts to Kenobi an Anakin. Especially since Anakin an Dooku apparently also were arch enemies too

One thing I've notice you done alot along with other youtubers when talking about Grievous fighting Obi one last time is omit the facts that...Grievous very much could've and my view WOULD HAVE killed Obi but cannot forget by the time of Revenge of the Sith he was greatly injured as Mace Windu crushed his cybernetic chests (ever wonder why Grievous coughed so much? Now you know) so when he fought Obi at Utapau he was FAR from ready to go. Watch the 2003 animated series. Grievous' whole voice and demeanor changes after Windu injures him. He was waaay more agile and slick with his attacks almost enjoying it. By the movie he's just a hulking mass that uses all power strikes and no finesse. I truly think (and shows how awesome Lucas is) his injuries from the series caused him to degress in skill and prefer to just outright batter his opponents which Dooku taught him NOT to do in the animated series. After Windu he never did find that balance in aggression and defense whereas before you'd be lucky to come close to hit him. I'm sure he thought he very well could win and I think so too but fighting injured is sadly a common trope that even modern day MMA fighters need to stop doing. Grievous fighting Obi is similar to Gaethje vs Holloway in UFC. Gaethje by all accounts should have won and my view would've won but literally got his nose completely destroyed in round 1 which ofcourse cost him his epic cardio to keep up with the weaker but more volume throwing Holloway. Grievous like Gaethje fighting injured led to their defeat. Difference between the 2 is that Gaethje is never overconfident. Grievous knows he could've beaten Obi I mean he has beaten multiple masters on his own at once while completely surrounded but to engage among the best defensive jedis while injured was a sign (a sith sign no less) of his overconfidence. THIS is also why I love Legends over Canon. Canon Grievous is a petty weenie loser. Legends is a true demi god among his people who was wronged by the republic and jedi and sith alike but not knowing the sith were responsible for his disposition as a droid. Canon he's beaten easily by freaking gungans! Legends the dude's first appearance sabered and crushed itleast 3 jedi masters and knights by himself and them attacking him at all sides and all have their own unique fighting styles and force abilities. No question...Legends Grievous is a beast that literally lost cuz he was injured and chose to fight as much rather than put his ego aside and either have Obi captured or just let the hundreds-thousands of droids surrounding him atomize him. He would've done the Sith a massive favor doing that too. Mainly due to tampering with his brain but love how slowly Grievous eventually relishes fighting along side the Sith. If I were Palpatine I'd kept him alive into the empire and would've done his people right making him an extremely loyal enforcer while he and Vader focus on the aspects of the force.

Everything is fair in a fight to the death, saying “if it wasn’t for this” is dumb. There was a blaster there, there may be a reality in which there wasn’t and Obi Wan died but we’ll never know because that isn’t what happened dude. The point is moot. Also, Kenobi beats Grevious in every other duel they have in TCW as well so even if he had won 1 of out like 6-7 duels I still see Kenobi as the more impressive fighter.

No, what should've happened is that Grievous would attempt to jump over Obi-Wan and end up limbless and headless in one cheap-ass illegal combo of two strikes blended together. It should've been the setup to show how Obi-Wan is likely to always cheat in his duels and foreshadowing of what would eventually happen to Anakin on Mustafar.

No offense, but in terms of lightsaber skill in Obi Wan's duel of Grievous on Utapau, Grievous had Obi Wan disarmed and the finale of the fight ended in Obi Wan pulling a blaster to him with the Force. The fact that Obi Wan had to resort to using a blaster to defeat an enemy that pretty much had him defeated, is a low blow for the Master of Defense. Therefore, I can only say that Dooku's prediction was not as spot on if he were to find out how Grievous lost to Obi Wan. All in all, I think if Obi Wan hadn't went for the gun and did his little trick he used on Darth Maul, but to the extent that Grievous was actually given a swift death, I would be more understanding of Dooku's prediction.

Obi-wan disarmed Grievous without too much effort, cutting 2 out of his 4 hands and forcing him to flee. At that moment the duel was over and what followed was not a duel but a chase.

Because Obi whooped him on several occasions through the “Clone Wars”. All he had to do was corner the cyborg sociopath so he could not run.

All the lightsaber talk is a little ironic because Obi-Wan kills Grievous with a blaster shot. Regardless, love the video!
