Absolutely. Monty Python can't even air in lots of places now. I get that they were poking fun a lot at bigotry, but many skits were downright, blatantly racist or homophobic by today's standards, (and certainly were back then, too). But that's OK though because times have changed, and he made his money from it. Just like the slavers once did, right? Furthermore, Her Late Majesty the Queen did more for decolonization and upholding human rights worldwide than any other single person in history, so to equate a medal he received depicting St. Michael crushing the devil to murdering George Floyd says far more about his thought processes than anyone else.

One day people like Michael Palin will understand how little slavery contributed to the UK economy and be proud that the UK stopped slavery world-wide. This is possibly the single biggest altruistic act by a country ever.

Yes, and one that we've only just finished paying for THIS CENTURY! So I am retired now, but virtually all my working life, my taxes were going towards paying off the loan taken out to free people from slavery, as did the taxes my parents and grandparents paid for something that happened before any of us were born!

These celebrities display their wilful ignorance. It was the government of the day that imposed slavers, just as it was the British Parliament that abolished slavery in 1783 by the efforts of William Wiberforce, who persuaded the then PM William Pitt to introduce the Abolition Bill into Parliament. Of note, the British abolished slavery some 90 years before America. Celebrities seem to have difficulty in comprehending that the British Monarchy is of a Constitutional model, and as such, do not have the power to interfere with the processes of Parliament. The corollary to 3:03 this, is that slavery, up until 1783 was tolerated by the British public who were free at any time to petition Parliament to abandon the practise. Celebrities embarrass themselves with their lack of knowledge

In the early 1970's my father-in-law was awarded an MBE and he was so proud of the honour. He was an ordinary working man who worked hard in the electricity industry all his life and was also a special policeman, this ordinary man wouldn't have been so discourteous to the royal institution. Why do these so called celebrities who change their minds about receiving these special honours have to make such a fanfare over returning them when they could do it quietly without publicity. This sort of behaviour shows them in an unfavourable light.

He worked alongside Dame Penelope Wilton, Sir Michael Hordern, and other luminaries of stage and screen. He now lives in New York, and would he realistically reject a knighthood if he were offered one? 😂 Sir Michael Palin accepted his knighthood in 2019; so what changed in those 5 years? I'd accept an honour, and I hope I receive mine when you receive your Neil, and then we can go for a cuppa and some jammie dodgers! ❤ 🙋‍♂️

Hand back your CBE Mr Cox, we are not buying that you only hold onto it because your sister is a royalist. The honour was handed to you not your sister. Also Mr Cox, if you are such a great Scottish patriot, why is your main residence in the US and your second in England?

Never taken to Palin, can't stand his voice or his delivery. Always turned off or over. As for Cox, he's a former SNP promoter. Thanks Neil.

Hiya Neil 🌞 IMO these people need to trace slavery from its roots back in true history -including the white slave trade ( which still exists today!!),and recognise that the orignal slavers were phonecians/arabs- who kidnapped their own peoples to barter for goods around the world! All the way through those people who also sold themselves as indentured slaves ect,and then recognise the types of slavery as well as the eras and social moires that directed them. The doing away with latter day slavery was also enabled greatly by the British monarchy if they studied their history!! But I guess ignorance is bliss, despite one wishing that educated/ factually informed, considered opinions were given as well. One of the reasons why we prefer your journalism over the msm s sensationalism. 😊Waving to one and all,J.I.M.K Mrs. (Not Damien, his Mother. )Brisbane, Australia 🇦🇺 ♥ 😊

I have one thing to say to Brian Cox, a self proclaimed atheist. I am a God loving Christian who believes in eternal life, if I’m wrong, I have lived my whole life believing and knowing I’ll see my loved ones again, I if you’re wrong, God help you!

Indeed, and even if it turns out that he is right and you are wrong and that there is nothing after death, you will have done yourself no harm. However, if you are right and he is wrong, then, as you say, he will be in deep trouble.

Its baffling how people like this, with all their talents let the side down in the end by being so pathetic! They accept something they almost know they will reject in the end for a bit of cheap publicity! It would be far better if he were not so duplicitous ,and remained true to themselves instead of being a complete prat! He and others like him!

Said it before, where is the due diligence for the people who are presented with an honor? As far as being upset by history, I doubt any country in the world doesn't have some past they are ashamed ed of. Can't cha ge the past, can make sure the "now" and future is corrected.

I’ve never understood why the RF gives Titles and Knighthoods to celebrities. There are so many ‘normal’ citizens who do great things for their communities, schools, children, women’s shelters, abused children, etc. A great majority donate their time, just like the working royals. If the RF is handing out Titles, Awards, Knighthoods, they should do so with the Military and the humble working class heroes. Instead of the ultra wealthy recognizing people of wealth and fame they should zero in on those who actually make a contribution to society!

These titles are actually compiled and shortlisted by a government honours committee. So, the government decides, and they are handed out by the Monarch. These celebs are trying to lift a leg on the wrong tree. It goes to show how little they know about anything.
