You can't win. Whatever you do, you will always have someone who will bring it up as a covert criticism of your character, if not a blatant one. For example, I smile a lot and laugh a lot, not every single time, I can be serious too but most of the time I am lighthearted face to face and I get some people telling me that I "get on their nerves" because of that and on those occasions when I might be serious, you can nigh on guarantee you will get one other person who will say to me "oh cheer up John for god's sake, you're depressing me".....blah blah blah. As the late Ricky Nelson used to say in his 'Garden Party' song, you can't please everyone, so you got to please yourself.

Hi Jade! You are an excellent teacher. I always enjoy your videos, and they are really helpful! I'm concerned about the poor education in my country too. I think it's becoming a global issue these days. I even have teachers at university that don't make good use of the language (Spanish). You have my respect for doing something about it!

Thank you for your opinions Jade! Very compelling. I think it's good that you're publishing a video expressing these thoughts, it addresses problems that we, as humans in the world that are both learning and teaching, have to address.

As far as I know... many smiley teachers do not really care about the growth of others. I also intend not to smile when teaching. Many love you like that, I know.

Hi teacher, First of all, give you a huge congrats on your work that I consider outstanding. As you can notice rapidly, I am an English student with a level next to intermediate and with a strong will to progress until a more advanced level. I would never have dared to make this kind of question, but I have to recognize that your answer has been amazing, I enjoyed how and what you have said it. I reckon that your work does not need any more than content and this is totally fulfilled, the rest is dispensable. You should have in mind, that we are a lot that believes that the most valuable usually is inside, not on the cover, thanks for your work and greetings.

Jade, thank you for the video, some interesting points well argued that I totally agree with. E.g. 3:33: if students expect continuous encouragement in the shape of smiling and fun, perhaps they are after things OTHER than studying.

Jade, you are the best. People can only be self-motivated. People are motivated when they are not speaking English but moving to UK, and when they need to teach your children English.

You are an EXCELLENT TEACHER. You don’t need to smile, keep going as you are. Your style comes across as very professional. You remind me of a woman I know who grew up in Blackpool and now lives amongst the Tatler readers and “are you going beagling this weekend” fraternity. She presents a very neutral front like yourself with the very low energy quite closed mouth delivery, I’ve always said it is because she worries about her natural accent slipping out like Eliza Dooolittle at Ascot. It worked for her and seems very happy with life but inside there is a lovely person who does have a sense of humour and itnis always a joy to make her laugh. Oddly you look very like the younger her… perhaps a distant relo’. My wife is an actress so we both love the nuances of accents and so enjoy your channel.

-- You can smile when you want to, i wouldnt worry about that. You have a lovely voice and i like the accent. Your work helps me learn how to speak english and i love the phrases and style. I acquired a liking for the sound of it as a kid watching Monty Python on the TV back in the 70s-80s, Ive noted that the laugh track totally detracted from the actual humor and deliverance and i think the same applies for when people smile for no reason or have perma-grin or manic laughter etc. Just do your thing and pay no mind, you smile thru the eyes and are very expressive without posing your expressions or constantly showing teeth in a robotic, obligatory or automated manner. Pip pip, cherrio, carry on, all that rot ! :D
