Aspen/Volare front end was real popular in those days for hot rodded Fords and Chevies too. Disc brakes. Lower ride height than the straight axle. IFS for theoretical better handling. Better ride around town on your way to car shows anyway. Easy to adjust the torsion bars to lower it more. 5 x 4.5 lug pattern same as many Fords. Put a passenger car Ford 9" in back and you have all 4 wheels with the same lug pattern. With a Corvette or Jag IRS rear end you have to do some machine work to get matching lug pattern. As to the vertical A pillars making it easier to chop the top...Yes, the steel work is much easier than the slanted A pillars of the 53-55. But then just try to get the curved window glass made. WHOA!!! That's a WHOLE 'nother ball game! The glass curve needs to be way different from stock glass. With the slanted pillars, a couple pie cuts on each side handles the not really so difficult metal work and the stock glass can pretty easily be cut down to fit at any local auto glass shop. So the sloped A pillars are actually WAAAYYY easier to chop.

Torsion Bar suspension is awesome. I had a 78 Datsun 620 pick up with torsion bars. Twist the screws and a pair of 3 inch lowering blocks put the truck down right quick and easy. Those were the days. haha.

It's kinda funny how when you live through the history, you don't think of it that way. I remember when the volare front suspension (the preferred track width) was the "new" thing, John Buttera's hand made chassis builds were all over the magazines etcetc. Now the young guns building have to be told what happened - great tutorial for anyone who didn't know. So I always wondered about going with a stock styled build on the panel truck but never really dove in. Do you have any clue what 1/24 scale kit could provide a stock suspension for the panel truck? Thanks for sharing

I not saying it's not a Mopar Suspension but Early 60's (1960 -63) Chevy Trucks also had a Torsion Bar front suspension. The Corvette Rear probably is 2nd Gen considering the year the kit was originally issued. Of course the few F100's I had a hand in (53 & 2 56's ) we installed a 69 F/X-Body Front subframe got front Disc Brakes and Chevy Engine Mounts

@@TheLukaCeeChannel I have a ’56 Ford Truck: RMX-7602 kit I think I'm going to but a '60 C10 front suspension and a 65-67 Vette rearend in with a 427 tri-power. That's gonna be FUN. My Grandad had a '56 F100 we put a 57 T-Bird engine in it about 1967. I was supossed to get when he died but my sister got it and wrecked it 2 weeks later, put in a ditch then rolled it. Yeh she lived (a few cuts and bruises) the F100 didn't.

@@user-ThomReec8587Yes chevy trucks had torsion bars technically 62 was the last year 63 started the more traditional a-arm style that they used from 63-87. I'm not saying some 63's didn't get them just like some 63's had the flat windshield it all depended on when it was made

Also Luka Cee. Mopar suspensions were Exactly 36" Wide between upper Control Arms the Frame Rails outside to outside Was Also 36" So they Fit like A Glove on Most pickups From 1945 & up. Dwapping these Mopar K Membersalso Added 2 other Highly Desirable Features. Power Steering & Power Front Disc Brakes. These Fut And installed Far Rasier than the Pinto & Mustang II frint Suspension which was Also A Popular Swap after 76 the F Body K.members First Found in Asoen & Volares were Even More popular Due to the New L Bar Torsion Bar Design which Left more Room for Exhaust Routing si it was deemed Superior

When a kit is made of a Street Rod, or custom that used other than stock suspension, that suspension should be duplicated in that kit. Lots of early cars and trucks use Mustang 2 type front ends, and maybe Jaguar rear suspension, so a model of one of those should use the same set up. I've seen several early Ford pickups with Volare front suspension. The 56 F-100 was also the first year for 12-volt wiring, as well. I used Toyota Helux torsion bars on a Rat Rod truck project. Cool video.

The picture of the F body (Aspen, Volare) has a transverse torsion bar setup that's very different from the older MOPARs like the '55 Ford kit has, they splayed the bars at an angle and that is not how they would be in reality.
