Model Car Genealogy The Revell '77 Chevy Stepside Ep.2
With my Co-Host Chris Martin. We follow down the genealogy line of model car kits. When the kit first was introduced. The different variations that were reissued over the years and changes that had happened. And what other kits may be linked to the main topical kit being discussed.

I used to wait for my Dad to come home from work so we could play Stompers when I was little. Fun episode on the history of these kits.

Love the history here.. it also brings back alot of memories. I wish I still had some of the kits from back then.

I agree!
Great show, guys. I have several of these kits, Billy's truck, Midnight Cowboy, Captain Hook, and my favorite Ice Patrol. Also, have the snap 4x4 and Blazer. Despite the inaccuracy, I love these kits. The actual Ice Patrol truck was on the cover of 4 Wheel & Offroad magazine and was slightly different from the model. I am planning on building both versions. I'm really enjoying this series and If you want to do Mustang IIs, I have most of the kits issued. AMT, MPC, Revell, Doyusha, Gunze Sanyo, and Airfix.
Another great episode 👍 Really a lot of fun looking back through these kits!
Someone should tool up a new kit of a 73 -87 chevy and gmc pickups long bed short bed stepside 2 wheel and 4x4
Loved it!
Not sure on this kit but i have used the front suspension out of revells 56, 57, chevy 2 door sedan kits onder 4x4 trucks to convert to 2wd
Very cool episode guys. I did not realize how extensive this tooling went. On a side note Billy beer sucked. It was horrible, undrinkable even. lol. Thanks for the education.
When you get that 2wd kit out Luka...you'd better make a few hundred! I'll buy 5 or 6 right away!
Love these vids Mr. C 🤜🤛 Keep up the GREAT work!!!!! 😉

Thanks man
Very informative. I always wondered why the step fenders on this series of pickup were radiused so high, never considered that they were sourced from the mini truck series. Revell was a pretty weird company in those days.
You Gentlemen have a GREAT thing going here with this format! I appreciate Your work on this episode! I am really looking forward to seeing more! PLEASE!! Thank You for sharing with Us here! Take Care, Be Safe, God Bless, Later

Very cool chat
I remember building the Hot Rod Magazine version and the Midnite Cowboy kit eons ago. I had a Blazer snap kit that was a rescue truck that was red and white on the box art. I thought it was related to this kit too.

Both MPC and Testors had snap Blazers that were rescue oriented, neither of which are related to this family.

@@chrmar Now that I think about it, I think it was an MPC kit.
This truck kit really has a fascinating history! The Sneaky Pete and the Big Six Wheeler were very unique in terms of their "big rig" looks, and out of curiosity, what engine did the Big Six Wheeler carry given it said "turbo diesel" on it? An interesting fun fact is that in the very first issue of "Airfix Magazine" I bought when I was ten years old, there was a feature article combining the back of the Big Six Wheeler with the Captain Hook cab and putting the tow truck fittings into the Big Six Wheeler's bed. That was the very first time I had ever heard of those kits, but I don't recall seeing the box art for either of them before, not even in that article I mentioned. The Custom Truck accessories kit mentioned at the beginning of this video must be worth a fortune now!
Awesome info and episode Luka! I built the black kit in the 1990s and I liked it - I recently picked up the latest version and I'm looking forward to building it soon. Chris Martin did a great job breaking it down for us - thanks Chris !

Billy Carter did not brew Billy bear. It was made by Falls city brewing.

Correct!!
How about the 1/16 scale models of this truck. They have the same genes....
So this means that the 4x4 off road versions of the chevy truck are a whole different kit. (The box art where the truck is a none flare side, and camo painted. )

It's based off the Monogram 76 4x4.
Awesome show guys! I really enjoyed this, This is one of my favorite Revell kits, I'm curious though does the Hot Rod kit version have Porsche side mirrors? Always enjoy learning the history of these fun kits!
@TheLukaCeeChannel

I think it does. I never realized those were Porsche mirrors. But sure look like it.

Those were a factory sport mirror offering from GM at the time the Hot Rod kit was issued
This is reaching back, (but isn't that the point of a geneology?) but I seem to remember a knock on the plastic in the Walmart kits you discuss - specifically the plastic of these kits was subpar. Some sort of rubberized or PVC blend? It made the plastic softer and harder to work with. I may just confusing this with ALL kits when they moved production from the U.S. to Mexico, or Mexico to China, and AMT kits versus both Revell and AMT. Has anyone worked with a Motorworks kit lately? What did you find? 2nd is working with yellow that tough? Testors Flat Black or Silver is supposed to work as a color barrier. I recently battled and lost with painting a molded in red AMT white. Gave up and painted it black. I haven't given up altogether though.

I haven't tried any of these kits in particular but I do have a Motorworks boxing of the Monogram '55 F100 and the plastic doesn't seem any different. 🤷♂️
HPI guys reviewed this kit. The tires are the same 2 piece....

The box that you see above my shoulder in the background has one piece tires... 🤷♂️

HPIGye gets early kits. Sometimes pre production. Round 2 Models could have changed it.
@sixtyfourchebby4507

@@TheLukaCeeChannelThat is correct. I built the 2004 yellow molded kit, and it took paint well with no bleed through. 2 piece tires were glued with loctite 404, then sanded for looks. They looked the part...sorta...lol Take care from the southern interior of BC Canaderp.
It would be nice if they would bring it back as ice patrol or make it a 2nl
@TheLukaCeeChannel

I agree with that.
Is that kit not the same basic tooling of the big country and plow truck?

Those are the Monogram 1:24 kits and share nothing with these. 👍
