Do people hate the leveling experience? I really liked it, It gives a lot more freedom and room for exploration, compared to many other MMOs I've tried. To be fair, I don't want to level traditionally anymore, because I've done world comp 4 times and leveled up 'legitimately' (no boosters) MANY more times, so I've had my fill of the early game content.

I enjoyed leveling in classic wow a lot more. In gw2 I've primarily been a pvp player (leveled most of my characters with tomes, so in that sense I enjoyed leveling), but levels 35-80 on my first character were definitely a slog. Nowadays levels go quicker, but eh. I think the sense of danger in classic wow makes the world more compelling. In gw2, most mobs are damage spongy, and the leveling lacks big moments of accomplishment. In classic wow, I enjoyed experiences like earning my voidwalker, or getting upgrades from dungeons or quest rewards. Increasing your power level was tied to doing difficult things. Having everything handed to you through levels makes gw2 feel less grounded and less rewarding through the leveling process.

I hate it, but what I hate the most is the inability to skip through some dialogue and cutscene. Being forced to do things you don't like isn't going to sit well with a lot of people. I went through the whole story + LW for leg trinket and my god I wouldn't wish that to my worst enemy. AT LEAST give us the ability to skip through dialogue and cutscene when you're PLAYING SOLO or you're playing an ALT. Doesn't help that if you get Dced in some instance, your progress will reset, and you have to go through 10 minutes of dialogue again.

I actually find it very relaxing and have 72 characters and two slots that i will not lock in to a character, one for keyfarm and one for just leveling to get the lower level crafting materials. I just get it to lvl 80 and then deleate it. And no this is not something i do all the time, but when i am bored of PvE or my WvW match is mindboggling boring or like now when Anet fucked up everything with their last ballance and nuking defense, i can jump on one and just go where i feel like. If i would level it fast it would probably take maybe 7-10 hours, if i go slow a week. Levels are just tossed at you now with the leveling guied so i am usually finnsih before i even reach lvl 40 zones.

The people who are telling you to skip the leveling experience are saying it from the point of view that they have done it before and don't want to do it again. Always level your first character without boosting so you have a base to form your opinions on. Save your boosters for different characters after you figured out the difference between progressing through the game and what unlocking all the skills does for you. I enjoy leveling while doing map completion. Thanks in part to me picking Guardian and Thief as my first characters. I won't do it on certain professions. Which I think is the deciding factor for if you like or hate the leveling experience.

Even if you do boost, you have to be willing to sit down and read all your ability and trait tooltips, practise your combat rotation and maybe copy a build online, since you wont know anything about that profession yet be handed the keys to a vehicle with many buttons and many choices. Levelling gives you lots of time to slowly learn, experiment and put into practise whilst not overwhelming you with everything all at once.

Times change WARNING! RANT! WARNING! I've encountered SEVERAL newbies and they were all speedrunning the game. For example: Feb 2024, a newbie joined our guild, /age 2 weeks, already lvl 80 (boosted 2 toons wth) then is asking a LOT of questions, some smart questions, tons of dumb questions you could answer yourself by googling for like 10 seconds, overwhelms the chat, not even wanting to watch a youtube tutorial. Asking everyone for a taxi to every zone as possible, some guildie spoiled him with exotic then ascended gear. Goes almost everywhere open world, WvW, PvP, not realizing what a build is. Next day he logs in, brags about his first legendary! In just 2 weeks! Last login: 3 months ago (I don't know why our leader hasn't kicked him yet) Dude what kind of skooma do these newbies consume? Rushed through the game only to abandon it! Guildies wasted time, gold, exotics and ascended gear to help a rushing ghost. And I've encountered more newbies acting in similar ways, even up to this day. Now I squint at newbies, there's a big chance this game isn't for them. They ask for guidance: look it up on the GW2 wiki (ohhh noooo too much reading) Have a small brain that can't read more than 1 paragraph? Go watch a Mukluk video! (ohh noo they are too long! he speaks lightspeed fast! and blah blah blah!) Don't want to do it? Can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped. Yeah I feel better taking this off my chest.

well ACTSHUALLY you're not quite right about the sylvari/asura lore. The asura who experimented on Malomedies and the secondborn were not actually inquest - one of the leaders of their "research," Vorpp, never faced any consequences for his actions, and showed up in LWS1 as Emissary Vorpp (he develops a device to help track Scarlet's portal incursions, and send you out to test it and gather data). Cadeyrn (the secondborn who founded the nightmare court) and Trahearne both wanted to wage war on the asura in revenge and self-defence, but the Pale Tree told Trahearne not to, and he conceded to her. This was the last straw for Cadeyrn, who was already upset at her preference toward the firstborn and the insistence that all sylvari follow Ventari's teachings without being given a good reason (in his mind), and he went on to start the nightmare court after that (and then Faolain joined and completely stole it from him and he got overshadowed by a firstborn AGAIN, rest in pieces dude). But anyway yeah, it was at the Pale Tree's insistence that they made peace with the asura, but the asura responsible for all the torture were not inquest and also not ever held accountable.

For story up to level ten, a lot depends on the race. It's been a while, but IIRC norn and char tutorial ends with "okay, now go and become famous" and since your norn wants to be a legendary hero and charr wants to raise up in rank, you go "hell yeah we will go and become famous". Sylvari and Asura don't quite have that and human starting story was so generic I forgot most of it.

New player as of a couple days ago, I'm actually pleasantly surprised by enjoying the leveling experience mostly because there's no real push to keep doing meaningless filler quests in between locations. I can go in whatever direction looks interesting and find things to do that reward me with vendor currency I can use on rewards and upgrades I want. Gear is readily available, learning my skills and weeding out what I'm not using as I get access to them makes more sense to me than being loaded down with dozens of decisions instantly with the boost, and finding groups for the first two dungeons so far has been easy enough even without a true dungeon queue. I'll probably end up boosting an alt eventually after I finish my first story playthrough, but for now I'm perfectly content to keep progressing at my own pace.

@@ChaoticNeutralMatt GW1 is far slower, not least because the combat is challenging and open world is dangerous, designed around party combat. Also need to do sidequests as not enough xp in the story to level up enough.

Commenting before watching, but I can't imagine how anyone can hate GW2 levelling. For alts sure I guess (ignoring the multitude of insta-level items that are given out in this game), but even then, the fact that everything gives EXP was already great, but with the recent Character Achievements, you can get to 80 SO QUICKLY just by playing about in a few zones. The only part about it I don't like is the changes they made since launch, where personal story quests are now given in chunks of 10 (just why?), and you get weapon skills by levelling, not using weapons. I LOVED unlocking weapon skills by actually using each weapon individually - now, when I try out a new alt, I find myself dedicating half-an-hour or more to just reading walls of text for every skill on every weapon, to figure out what does what and what direction I wanna go.

Well, even as a new player, years and years ago... Lvling thru these Roze talks here about took hardly twice the time of this video length ))) My second char was a sylvary male with a quite alike setup as his! It wasn't actually before my forth of fifth full map completion when I actually stopped just 'fill the bars' and grind XP/lvls/map complete and started to pay attention to all these precious little details like what npc say and what they do and got the very idea that dynamic events are truly 'things happen in the world of which I can be a part of'. As a new player, I was far more interested in grasping the mechanics of the game and I really had no need to form a deep connection with the story before I've got a deep connection with my inventory space and weapon/utility skills.

Side note but this got me thinking: these days, what MMO besides WoW starts at max level? Not GW2, FF14, ESO, SWTOR. I guess Lost Ark? It's just seems wild how much the way Wow does things becomes the way "MMOs do things".

ehhhh I disagree about the "only yourself to blame" with the jumping puzzels, there are a lot that due to GW2 having kinda jank surfaces that soemtiems youll slip off because you landed on the one pixle that counts as a wall and not a flat serface also kinda agree that GW2 does have pay to win, on the scale of pay to win established by josstrifehays GW2 is up there on the pay to skip/pay for conviniances/pay for quolity of life, it is less egredious than other games but it is up there on the scale and if you are a 100% new player its very prehibative to get some of the very basic things unless you watch guides youll have lots of issue catching up and tbh GW2 has a very very big bot problem, more than half the items on the auction house are there from bots, any time Anet do big bot wave bans some items tank big time so anet tend to be vary careful when doing that to not crash the economy

Isn't "buy power" and if you don't have a job to afford anything you can just play the game like a job to buy it. 😏 If only they'd sell good chest/leg armor skins more often though they been doing it more often than ever before lately.

Just convinced three friends of mine to get into GW2 for the first time so I have some fresh memory of the current leveling experience. I think the Adventure Journals are extremely good for the experience, but it doesn't resolve a lot of the issues the early game has. It's hard to sell this game to my peers as the deep pve/pvp experience that we know in the end game when for the better part of first few hours they don't even have their entire utility and weapon bars. Sure, I get WHY that is done, to make sure the game doesn't overwhelm the player, but I believe the pace of which these slots unlock can probably be sped up. Leveling also slows down drastically after level 50 or so, and I had my friends become genuinely bored even with the good open world content. The actual content in the games are good, I just think it's a bit too long for today's audience for better or for worse. Alas Anet probably won't rework the early game experience because it's not interacted with enough to be a hit to their bottom line. All we can hope to do is say "just reach level 40/50/60/70/80, and it'll be good!", even though a game whose first 10 hours are bad might as well end at 10 hours...

My biggest complaint about gw2 is not one mount being perma available to new players so we can at least ride on raptors together. And having to pay for material storage and stuff is brutal. I like the game, but I don't often feel a pull to play it.

I've never had an issue with the leveling experience in this game, there are multiple ways of doing it. I usually only complete the first map, run events, dungeons if possible and collect all hero points. By the time I get to HoT, I'm roughly around 50-60 hero points shy of getting the first elite spec, works flawlessly for me. Far worse leveling experiences in other games. All things are subjective.

9:50 --- Y'know... its funny... There are flesh-eating plants... but no plant-eating plants... Why is it ingreaned into our brains that sylvari are vegetarians? I cant remember it anywhere specifically stated... 28:50 --- I still find it strange that they changed that. When the game released you could start with the main story right away, no matter your level. And if the story mission was 5-6 levels above you and you wiped (yes, that happened back then), you leveled at bit and got to it again. Honestly... I still like basegame better than expansions ^^°

Seen Roze's video first this time and loved it. I'm hoping for some explanations of some of the memes I didn't get. You explaining hearts just before he said the same felt a bit redundant. Double digit karma values, how nostalgic. I can't remember the last time I've seen a gold seller. Farming bots/makros you can see sometimes in certain places but they don't really bother anyone. Some of the convenience is pretty much mandatory like bank slots or material store extensions. Those are somewhat reasonably prized and regularily on discount. What I found ridiculous is the prizing of mount skins. But hey, I don't need them. Where they jumped the shark IMHO and since when I refuse to buy anything I don't have to (like expensions), are the templates. Templates should have been in the game from day 1 and always been free. They failed there big time. I prefered it when the personal story wasn't level-gated but people (ab)used that for farming Black Lion Chest Keys so we couldn't keep having nice things. Oh yeah, picking up a hero point item and not using it has probably happened to all of us. Also there are a few hero points that are a bit different like the one in Verdant Brink where you have to survive a DoT. Accurate description of Asura. The article seems to be his own work. Now that's some nice dedication. In his defense, the leaves of the plant aren't always active depending on the local event. I find that having the glider makes some Jumping Puzzles a lot more annoying. The other big enemy in many JPs is the camera. I swear the camera was better on release or shortly after and has gotten far far worse. I hate you Slothasor.

GW2 has the best leveling experience. But imo, all the level 60 and below core tyria zones are boring after one time. Only due to power creep at max, even with just exotics its easy. Then, re-leveling another character where you are no longer learning basics like dodging everything just seems faceroll. I remember the first time through, and I had trouble with veteran enemies. Now I can pull multiple veteran enemies plus more regulars and be fine. Regardless of profession.
