ABOUT VEDANTA
Vedanta is one of the world’s most ancient religious philosophies and one of its broadest. Based on the Vedas, the sacred scriptures of India, Vedanta affirms the oneness of existence, the divinity of the soul, and the harmony of religions. ABOUT US Vedanta Society of New York is affiliated with the Ramakrishna Order of India. In fact, this is the Order's first Center started by Swami Vivekananda, in 1894. It was a historic event, for the seed of the world-wide Ramakrishna Movement was sown here in New York over a century ago. Swami Sarvapriyananda is the present Resident Minister and Spiritual Leader of the Vedanta Society of New York.

One thing I want say. From the past years I have been practicing Raja Yoga and Jnana Yoga parallelly. First insights I got is from meditation that I am the witness consciousness and the world is an object to me including the body. 2nd insight I got from Jnana Yoga that I am the witness consciousness and the world is an appearance on me. It is not real(At first insight I included world to be real also).I found that I am both observer and substratum of the illusion called world's(waking, dreaming and deep sleep). Now my 3rd insight from Jnana Yoga thought me that I am observer, substratum and illusion. Infact, there can be no independent thing ever known as illusion(of the world) from me the consciousness. Not even the thing called illusion can exist as a separate thing from consciousness.

In the context of Advaita, the world is considered false because of its impermanence. Universes come and go, while the Supreme Self remains the same and is thus considered real.

The statement "the world is false" is misleading, leading to the devaluation of our lived experiences. Advaita Vedanta's snake-rope metaphor illustrates *pratibhasika satta* (illusory existence), where misperceptions arise from ignorance. However, a more accurate analogy is the pot-clay relationship: while the pot is clay, clay is not limited to the pot. Similarly, Atman-Brahman underlies all names and forms but is not confined to them. An even more insightful analogy is wave, ocean, and water. Ishvara is the ocean, individuals are waves, and the shared reality is water (Atman-Brahman). Waves (individuals) are forms of water (Brahman), emphasizing our non-separation from the underlying reality. This analogy underscores that while names and forms resolve into Atman-Brahman upon inquiry, they follow an intelligent order, or Dharma. Names and forms are not arbitrary or false; they embody the cosmic order. Recognizing our true nature as Atman-Brahman, we must respect Dharma. Some distort these teachings into life-denying doctrines, but true Advaita Vedanta affirms the empirical world as an expression of Brahman, advocating harmonious engagement with reality.

The true sense in which the jagat is an illusion is it appears as a snake when in reality it's the rope, the two cannot coexist, as soon as you see the rope the snake perception vanishes for ever. And as in the mirage analogy though you continue to see the water in the mirage you know it's an illusion, in other words the world is as illusory as the water in the mirage.

Claiming to be God is totally blasphemous and wrong. India has a tradition of worshipping materially inclined spirits, that they summon with food and drink offerings and wrongly call gods, yet they have no tradition of worshipping Almighty God. Instead they claim Almighty God is impersonal and they are are God, because they read about it somewhere. This is very sad and kills any hope of attaining salvation via Deification.

Are gods different from living beings. How will you relate god to a unicellular amoeba or paramecium. If god is consciousness then is god absent in an unconscious person due metabolic cause or for that matter any cause. You can not say every way of belief related to this world, humans , god is right. My belief has no meaning, truth remains the truth whether we know or we don't know. A philosopher's work is to reveal the truth. He is not a philosopher who says everybody can believe his own way. That is theology and not philosophy. With reverence you are practicing theology and not philosophy. A person who slaughters innocent animals to appease gods is living in falsehood and no way can he be supported that his belief of god is also right. Only A philosopher has the courage to speak the truth as Galileo showed.

The biblical prophet Elijah has returned, as prophesied, and testifies: "Unless thine eye be single..." Yeshua One with Christ ("Jesus Christ") taught Advaita, though organized Christianity doesn't understand, and does not. That's going to change when the Phoenix of Truth rises from the ashes of illusion. And we are entering the most trying of times, the burning fire known to Christians as the biblical Tribulation, with the anti-Christ mentality rising and soon to begin wreaking its full destruction. But all is part of the One Mind's design, which is perfect and complete and guaranteed to return all souls to their limitless Reality from this illusory realm of limitation. The best-kept secret in this entire world is how and why we fell into limitation. But that secret and all important mysteries have been revealed and published in these "end times": the end of the old Cycle of Time that the New Cycle may be born. Seek and ye shall find.
