Vedanta Society of New York is affiliated with the Ramakrishna Order of India. In fact, this is the Order's first Center started by Swami Vivekananda, in 1894. It was a historic event, for the seed of the world-wide Ramakrishna Movement was sown here in New York over a century ago. Swami Sarvapriyananda is the present Resident Minister and Spiritual Leader of the Vedanta Society of New York.

Does "a guru is always very good" mean a guru is necessary then? 🤔 Gurus can be hard to find and not everyone has access to one.
According to my teacher, the very last steps into liberation can only be taken with the help of Guru. However, Guru in this context is not a person. For most people that won't be relevant any time during this lifetime as they won't come close to liberation. But at any stage of our spiritual journey it is helpful to have a Self-realized teacher (which I guess is also called guru) who will guide and support when the student turns to them for help. It is probably not absolutely necessary. But when you're meant to progress quite quickly and move through very difficult and critical stages of spiritual development, you will most likely be fated to find just the right teacher. There's a saying that goes like this: when the student is ready their teacher will find them. To me this states that, for one thing, it's not in our power to make the teacher appear in our lives, and for another thing, that everything is perfectly taken care of and we need not worry about what happens or doesn't happen. Do what you can to make progress, be sincere about it, seek a teacher if you feel the need, and trust the process.

When Consciousness or Brahman is not experienced completely...in its pure form , the illusion of this Universe and ourselves... names and forms...appear before us. Isnt it?
