Vocabulary from this video BBC 6 minute English "Why do we procrastinate": - Procrastinate (v) - to delay or put off doing things that must be done. Exp: Stop procrastinating, do it now. You keep delaying and delaying until the last minute - You put your work off until the deadline so you procrastinate. People procrastinate so much that it interferes with their day-to-day life. - Procrastinator (n) - a person who procrastinates, and delays doing things until the last minute. Exp: He is a serial procrastinator. He thinks himself of being a procrastinator. - Procrastination (n) - the act of delaying something that must be done. Exp: A serious procrastination problem; a procrastination habit; Procrastination is also linked to lower financial and career success. - Well-being (n) - the state of feeling healthy and happy; (syn) welfare - mental and physical health, living conditions. Exp: People who procrastinate have higher levels of stress and lower well-being. - Interfere (v) - become involved in something that others don't want your help with. To interfere with something or interfere in something. Exp: Don't interfere with my plans, as I do not interfere in your business. - Without a shadow of a doubt (idiom) - to emphasize that you are completely certain of things. He is a procrastinator without a shadow of a doubt. It means, he is sure and thinks that he is a real procrastinator because of his procrastination habit. - Under pressure - to feel stressed and anxious because of too much work to do. - Impulsive (adj) - doing something suddenly, on instinct, without thinking about the consequences. Exp: Impulsive behavior; an impulsive action. Our ancestors lived in caves, their life was dangerous and short. So they were impulsive - they acted suddenly, on instinct, without careful thought about the consequences of what they were doing. Impulse (n) - a sudden desire to do something without thinking about the consequences. He bought the apartment on impulse, and the price was very high. - Gratification (n) - a feeling of pleasure or satisfaction from doing something. Exp: He gets gratification from doing things at the last minute. - Serenity (n) - the quality of being peaceful and calm. - Oodles (n) - a large amount of something pleasant, such as time. Exp: He prefers to work under pressure, instead of finishing calmly with oodles, or lots of, time. Applied paragraph: Nowadays, many people have a procrastination habit, where they delay and put off their work until the last minute. Those individuals are known as procrastinators. There are numerous reasons why people procrastinate. Some prefer to work under pressure, getting gratification from doing things at the last minute, instead of finishing calmly with oodles of time. This procrastination habit can make them real procrastinators without a shadow of a doubt. Another reason for procrastination is an emotional response where some feel threatened when thinking about a large workload. A theory of human evolution explains how putting things off is an emotional response. As our ancestors lived in caves, where their life was dangerous and short, and impulsive actions were necessary for survival. In modern times, with work goals and deadlines, giving in to impulsivity and procrastination can interfere with our day-to-day lives. Therefore, it is important to avoid procrastination and finish our work on time. Many thanks for this video. Have a nice weekend!!

I'm also procrastinator without a shadow of a doubt who love finishing my work under pressure. Even though I have oodles of time in my hands I always procrastinate. It's a terrible habit and I always get exhausted that I won't deal with my work on time. To get gratification myself, I must avoid procrastinating.

BBC learning is utterly superb which my vocabularies really change dramatically and in positive way. In many ways I am constantly listening fervently every single day.....Hats off to all of you guys and I am so grateful for imparting your knowledge to us.
I sometimes procrastinate because I am trying to think it through. But I also believe if you decide to delay, you better not think about it always. Not think about the task only until the last moments when you decide to begin, which is a good means in my eyes to balance the paradox that you want to delay but yet meanwhile you can't stop thinking about it.
useful tip^ to break tasks down - taking a large project or task and breaking it down into smaller, bite-sized pieces.
Could u also do a video on chrono mania? My problem is that I don't procrastinate but I'm obsessed with time. I feel the urge to make the most use of my time in a day. It would be a good topic. Thanks
Without shadow of a doubt - completely certain of something Gratification-feeling of satisfaction Under pressure- Impulsive behavior Oodles of something-very large amount of something
Idk if I am procrastinating, because I am working home office and listening bblearningenglish and bbc news at the same time lol I am preparing myself to take the CPE Cambridge exam. Thanks BBC Learning English I enjoy all of your videos and really like the polite way of British people Greetings from Peru 😄
Thanks, BBC My summary while listening Introduction Today's topic mainly revolves around the issue of procrastination. Some believe delaying tasks until the last minute will help them work better, especially under pressure. However, those with such an issue often suffer from a higher stress level and have lower well-being. On top of that, procrastination is also linked with lower financial and career success. Overall, its drawbacks seem to outweigh the advantages. According to Ella al-Shamahi, a presenter, he admitted that he was a serial procrastinator without a shadow of a doubt. Over the years, he's told himself that he works better under pressure. He continued to add that for him, he got more emotional gratification from doing it last minute which is something he prefers to getting things done with oodles of time on his hands.
Thank you Teachers.
Sometimes it is from outside. It means the urgent issue.

I think in our modern lives, especially after the pandemic is more easier to be a procastinater. When you have a homework you need to manage you time by yourself and share your attention with internet, TV, family and many other thing that can make your mind stay out of focus.

Procrastinating is undesirable behavior which could affect our daily living.. If we could embrace it, it would affect us negatively and could bring negative impact in our lives...Thank you bbc
great!
Very good
İ procrastinate things sometimes to do it well and perfectly and found it suitable
In fact, this time no longer lasts long because now the day has few hours. 😥
I want to write sentences down on this comment space using the words that I’m about to learn. Stop put off your work. Stop procrastinate off your work. According to lasted research, the reason why people postpone their work to do is that they have strong desire to finish their work in perfect result, rather they are just being lazy. That kind of pressure makes people put off their work. We thought the procrastination has been come from our laziness. However the truth is that was from our anxiety.
Procrastination makes us feel stressed or anxious, which means we won’t achieve the desired outcome. It’s without a shadow of a doubt. You don‘t have oodles of time. Life is short. You should avoid doing impulsive actions. So, let’s get it done as soon as possible.
