Its not so easy to grow your own food in some parts of the world. I live in the southern states of Australia. We have a hot dry season and a cold wet season. We are now in the hot dry season. I have been watering for months with a hose or sprinkler. The last it rained was over a month ago. Then it was so heavy that it ran off and only soaked the top 4 cm of soil. We do have good water works infrastructure. But its not free , I pay $ 2,000 au dollor, for water every year in the hot season to keep my plants alive. We have 2 dormant times , one in the hot season for about 6 weeks when the hot wind dries everything and no amount of self watering helps. In the wet season for about 6 weeks the temperature is too cool to grow. But we hardly ever have snow and melts as soon as it hits the ground. Most forager type plants have all been introduced from the arrival of white early settlers.

Everything in Nature is collaborative but human systems are competitive rather than collaborative. Every species only takes what they need from Mother Earth, but we, fragile human beings had to build space rockets to understand that life is simple, food is available in abundance everywhere as long as we don't mess up the natural system. We are responsible for desertification, war, famine and pestilence. It should be clear by now that the natural intelligence which governs Nature and all species, does not need our help, whenever we interfere, mostly because of greed, we cause damage. The entire educational system is to disconnect us from our feelings, to prepare us for an artificial world based on the exploitation of the most vulnerable with lethal consequences for all. Mother Earth is alive and if we behave like hungry parasites, she will get rid of us. Excessive materialism didn't make anyone happier but rather poorer in their heart. Life doesn't last forever, our time here is limited, let's make the best out of it by letting our hearts drive us rather than our fragile ego. Every day could be your last so be here now!

All this knowledge on self-sufficiency and the search for food and energy autonomy has only been accessible to the general public in recent years. The current crisis has accentuated this need. What leeway remains for a retiree who is already advanced in age to ensure this need for him and his family, knowing that his family does not necessarily think like him. You cannot force this change in mentality on close family members. But when you dream of a farmer's life, can you start alone while waiting for others to be convinced, at least if your project is successful? How to reconcile two parallel lives for the same family?

In many areas in the world, we can’t grow food all year round. How can we live there, sustainably? I think this is a big issue. In these areas, the scarcity of food is normal. That’s a big issue. We tried to fix that thousands of years ago with intensive agriculture and animal exploitation but failed. Maybe we shouldn’t live in areas where we can’t sustain ourselves all year round. We should do it like animals. An elephant doesn’t live in Germany because the environment is not favorable. Why do we live there? Most of the year it’s too cold/ uncomfortable. If we have sustainable means of transport for a large number of people, most of the people in the Northern and Southern Hemisphere could move halve of the year to the warm side. Some people who don’t want to move could take care of the stuff and prepare for the return of the others.

@TheQueenKat
3 жыл бұрын
Food preservation is possible! We stored over 120 squash of different varieties in Minnesota in the growing season of 2020. We have been eating through them slowly, including making squash butter that is now in the freezer. We currently have 35 squash left, all still in good condition. I could eat it fresh over the next 2 months or preserve it even further by canning it. We will be eating from our next garden in about 3 months but we won't have fresh squash again until the fall of 2021, but that is ok. Food is seasonal and we should better acclimate to those restrictions, rather than expecting fresh strawberries in January in a northern climate. Storing and preserving your garden produce is very doable and that's how people have survived for a very long time!

I have a job because I have a bad habit. I like to eat from time to time. 😂

Because my abroad family in Philippines need funds to pay for their needs school fees foods gas electric bills until I arrive over There from Australia once I get there I can show them how to live self-sufficient without merchant or government supplies.
Is agriculture a very strong Skillset to remain self-sufficient?
You are absolutly right in what you are saying but we have create megacityies. So imaginär yourself of everybody is going to try to live like that.
Every word is true..
