Our society has long been plagued by cults that take advantage of vulnerable individuals.
Let's look at the Top Five Evil Brainwashing Cults of all time and how some people can be helped to avoid such organisations:
1) The People's Temple which committed mass suicide (and murder) at Jonestown in 1978 under orders from their leader Jim Jones
2) The Branch Davidians who were involved in a siege at Waco, Texas in 1993 led by David Koresh, who thought he was the Messiah
3) The Japanese Aum Shinrikyo cult that launched a Sarin gas attack on the Tokyo metro and whose leader was later hanged in prison
4) The Solar Temple whose members killed themselves after arranging their bodies in patterns between 1994 and 1997
5) Heaven's Gate where cult members committed suicide in order to join a passing UFO
