Why Do People Wear Cross Necklaces?

Have you ever wondered why cross necklaces are everywhere these days? This video explores how crosses have developed from a Christian symbol to a popular accessory.
The cross, known for representing Jesus' crucifixion, holds different meanings for different people. Some see it as a religious emblem, others as a sacred symbol of their faith, and for some, it's a timeless fashion choice.
We'll also dive into why certain subcultures, especially goths, adore incorporating crosses and crucifixes into their style. Because sometimes, they might not only wear cross necklaces and cross earrings for aesthetic purposes.

As a baby bat who has always loved the goth scene but hesitated to participate due to Christian beliefs, this video is very refreshing. I am a Christian who is goth and I struggled to reconcile those two things for a while because I thought it wouldn't be possible to be a Christian and a Goth at the same time. I am now embracing my gothic side and I have never been happier. I do find it a bit disrespectful that a cross is now an accessory but it is ok as long as people respect the religious symbol.

Thanks for making this video. I too like to educate people on this. I've known for a long time that the reason a lot of goths wear crosses when they're not religious is because of its association with death. As an anti religious goth I do not care for crosses and don't like that they are associated with goth but I at least understand why. Thank you for also pointing out that goth is mutual when it comes to religion.

Good video! My partner wears a cross necklace. Black cross specifically, to resemble the Teutonic Order Knights, because his hometown used to be a capitol of Teutonic State. Pretty cool reason! He is christian as well, although his main reason is the love for local history.

Lovely video, wish more people outside the goth culture would watch this to better understand its meaning. I'd known about crosses and their historical meaning in religion and goth from my History and Arts classes in Highschool. I hope others would stop having negative views towards the cross in different settings apart from religion.

I couldn't agree with you more. People shouldn't have a problem with it as long as they are respectful in wearing it and that also goes for any other religious or cultural things.

A fine peice of work, as usual with your videos. The topic is interesting but in the end the answer is a little anticlimactic. Nonetheless, it was a great time. For the opinion part on religion, I would like to say that I'm an anticlerical madman burning churches and idols alike, but in reality, I don't see religions, especially christianity, like something inportant or interesting. I see it more like a concept belonging to past times and imagination. In fact, a lot of my wrightings, game designs and drawings take inspiration in different religions, I like the estethic and symbolic it has, it's a very easy way to start a plot, gameplay feature or subject to draw, it vehicles a lot of power and gives to the art a diferent tone. Anyway, glad you posted such a sweet delicacy for the end of this christian yeah, excellent elivery, and interesting new year to you. Oh, just a little thing, it's very not that bad but when you do a lot of montage and editing, you see these audio additions miles away due to audio volume and grain changing, I might advise you to use a normalisation filter on the finished product to smooth these little bumps, but don't wrorry too much, mort people never hear these kind of things. Anyway and for a second time, I wish you a good and interesting year.

Hi Thank you for sharing and spending time here. Constructive criticism is always welcome and you have a very nice way of pointing it out. I will try using the filter in my next video. (Trust me, I've been worrying about the grain changes for some time now. You save my life there.) Thank you once again. Appreciate your suggestion. Wish you an interesting year as well.

Just saying but I would really love to see you take on H H Holmes and he was a very dark person who was a con artist and a serial killer and he had a lengthy criminal career but he is most well known for His infamous and Dark Murder castle which was a hotel and before he was a killer he was a doctor which made it more worse for his victims as in the hotel he had gas chambers to release poisonous gases and trapdoors which led to the basement which is where in my opinion he showed his true nature by dissecting his victims body and taking the organs and bones and selling them on the black market and he was hanged and his conviction was first degree murder and the worst thing is that no one knows victims there was since he confessed to 27 and only 14 were proven and I know about his story because back in the 1890s my paternal grandmothers moms paternal great aunt was at this big event in Chicago called the world’s columbian exposition and Holmes was at this exposition.

As I appreciate Victorian and Corp Goth,. as a non religious person I will not display the. cross or any other religious symbol. No one has to know what I believe in. I suggest that if someone is attached to any type of cross or religious symbols, wear them at home or places of ceremony you feel safe. Never in public or in a workplace that you prefer that colleagues keep out of your private and social life.
