The Side-Impact Protection System (SIPS) and Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS) further advanced occupant safety. Recent innovations include pedestrian detection technology and the Vision 2020 initiative, aiming to eliminate fatalities and serious injuries in Volvo vehicles by 2020.
Volvo's success is attributed to key figures such as co-founders Assar Gabrielsson and Gustaf Larson, engineer Nils Bohlin, former CEO Pehr G. Gyllenhammar, and current CEO Håkan Samuelsson, whose contributions have shaped the company's reputation for innovation and safety, saving countless lives on the road.
