This is an accurate assessment of what happened and how Luther realised salvation is by faith alone in Christ and not of works see eph 2 V8

In the Catholic Church and Orthodox Church were prohibited for ordinary people to read the Gospel. Beside this there were no Gospels in their language. When the Pope had heard that, he gave the order that Martin Luther must be Killed. But some friends of him hide him in a cathedral. He was living there for three years and he in this time translate the Holly Bible from Latin in Germany language. That translation is using until now. That the people can read and to know what says the Bible about forgive the sins. Ephesians 2:8; For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith -- and this not from yourself, it is the gift of God -- not by works, so that no one can boast.
