Why Did PONTINS Prestatyn Close? What's Next For Pontins?

In November 2023, Pontins Prestatyn closed for good without warning.
Why did Pontins Prestatyn close, and what is next for Pontins Prestatyn?
After visiting Pontins Prestatyn, North Wales earlier in 2023, for a, Holiday On The Busses Location Tour' around the Pontins site, as that's where the 1979 Holiday On The Busses film was filmed, we made an honest review vlog of the site. Although we tried to be as positive as possible, it was hard to be totally onside with Pontins.
Fast forward to November 2023 and Pontins Prestatyn closed, just like that. With no warning to staff, many of which heard that Pontins was closing from social media, but what is next for Pontins?
We went to visit the abandoned holiday park, and it was heart breaking to see Pontins in this state.
Since Britannia took over Pontins in Prestatyn, they have invested no money into the upkeep of the site and now, Pontins has closed for good, or has it?
We took a good look around the outside of the now abandoned Pontins and managed to talk to some members of staff who were working out their notice as security guards.
There are so many rumours as to what is next for Pontins Prestatyn.
These rumours include, being knocked down for housing, for housing migrants, for being bought and returned to being a holiday park once again, none of which have been denied or confirmed.
In this Pontins Prestatyn vlog, we bring you up to date with all of the rumours and some facts about what is happening to Pontins Prestatyn.
As soon as any official word comes out, we will be back to give you all of the latest information about the abandoned North Wales holiday site.

⭐ About Postcard & A Pint:
Welcome to the official Postcard & A Pint KZread channel.
Postcard & A Pint was thought up by my partner, Rachel & myself, Wills one day while taking our daily 1 hour exercise during the lockdown of 2020. All of a sudden, we were spending more time together, not working 6 or 7 days a week in the arts industry, and binge watching travel programs, and we were actually really enjoying it, and it made us re-evaluate what was important in life for us. Now back to working 6 or 7 days a week again, with very little time off, our happy time is getting out there on our brief times off together and making short travel videos that we are now sharing with you. It's just a bit of fun, and great for our sanity. Your support is hugely appreciated x

Really surprising how quickly it when into closure. And so sad to know about the jobs and those effected. You're right Rach, it is the perfect site for a holiday park, it's what Prestatyn needs, especially being a seaside town. Blimey, the place is so eerie, but it was in dire need of a facelift anyway, so sad, i really do hope that another park will take this place over and get it back to when it was thriving. What a video, absolute fabulous job, thank you for sharing such an important story! x

Hi both, sad to hear Pontins closed and it would be interesting to find out the reason why as it must hold lots of memories for people and must have been horrible for the workers in the way that they found out 😐 Hope you're doing OK your end of North Wales, apparently the coast all from Wrexham to Anglesey is expected to be bad tonight. Thanks for watching and we really hope that someone buys it and it can remain as a holiday park. Cheers 🍻

Hi Rach and Wills, what a sad sight to see. Terrible to hear that Pontin's didn't bother to notify their employees that the park was closing. Fancy finding out through Facebook. Disgusting way to treat people. We had a couple of Pontins family holidays, way back in the day. It was fun, but Butlins had more amenities, I remember. It will be interesting to find out what they intend to do with the site. Thank you for doing such a great job of investigating the site and the rumours 👍😊

Every kid we met there had an absolute ball. End of an era to see it go, and even worse to see what it had become beforehand. It's awful how a company can buy what would have been a thriving holiday camp at one stage, spend no money on it to try and get it back to what it had been. Even worse run it down (the rubbish and broken items just lying around was dreadful!) and then shut it down because it wasn't financially viable. Obviously it was bought for the land value alone, I would think that the site would be sold to a developer who would subdivide and then build luxury homes for people who could afford it and live in a beachside location. With that huge site, there's quite a few homes that could be built there!

I do hope the park is restored to it's former glory. It doesn't need to be raised to the ground. It needs a total refurbishment. All the structures will be sound. They can be made like new. The ecology of this planet cannot afford to trash buildings like that. The story at Butlins Pwllheli in 1998 was the same. Substantial buildings demolished for tin caravans which have probably been replaced several times since. Cost to the planets limited resources very high indeed.

As for immigrants having it,wouldnt put that past this lame goverment"ricky gervis joke springs to mind "woman and children first,OH! its only you men in the boat!. We enjoyed, but were also saddened hearing the story of Pontins, Rachael and Wills. Too many companies just don't give a darn (notice my tact) about anything other than the bottom line. In order to keep any resort park going, investing back into it is required. You can tell by looking at it here that hasn't happened even before you said it. It looks much like army barracks sadly. It's quite dated and I'm afraid you may be correct about the need to tear it down and starting fresh. If the company owning it can make money by housing migrants, I'm guessing that's what they may do. If they can make MORE money by selling the prime property off for development for housing then they will go that route. Companies like that don't really care about their employee's, or what would be for the common good. Always a shame and sad story.
