I stay regularly at the Norbreck Castle for dance events. I was there last weekend. Room was fine, hotel was OK. It is vastly improved on what it used to be.

I think your words at the end were spot on. It is very easy to sit and judge watching this at home, but this might be the only opportunity a lot of family's can afford to give their children a break. But you should expect to have a clean environment regardless of what you pay. I am not going to knock it though as I am sure the staff there do their best with the resources they have.

Is/wasn't the Salford camp, close by, for the really hard up kids from Manc?

I spent many happy holidays at Prestatyn & Southport as a child in the late 70s & 1980s. Such a shame to see the condition its in today. As you have said, yes Pontins should clean & maintain the camp to a higher standard & people should treat the premises with respect.

Thank you for the comment about it being some people's main holiday. I think it's all too easy to be critical but, like you said, people throw the rubbish on the floor and leave it in that state and not everyone can afford a lot of money for a holiday. I've stayed in places like this when money has been tight and my children still have wonderful memories of the time there.

Maybe the waste ground with the dinosaurs is actually where the cleaners go to retire. Cos face it, it was the jurassic age when it was last cleaned. 😂😂

I'm shocked. I stayed there in the late 90's in what they called "Club" accommodation. It was the best of what they had to offer and it was spotless. We had room service and fresh towels daily. The park was spotless and all the entertainment was working. It was very sad to see it in that state.

Same here l stayed in Club accom it was spot on back then you even got a complimentary Pontins umbrella ☔ in your room 😁

This makes me sad. I can imagine the nostalgia (I am a Butlins girl - think Pwllheli Butlins 1992) but it’s sad the state of this place, could be amazing especially due to its location

@@paulmoore478I worked at Butlins Pen y chain near Pwllheli seasons 1978 & 1979 ,when it was a proper holiday camp . Haven have now turned it into a glorified soulless caravan site .

This makes me so sad to see we spent some glorious holidays there as children in the 1970s. 😔

WE WERE BOTH AT PONTINS IN SOUTHPORT PURELY BECAUSE OF CIRCUMSTNCES OUT WITH OUR CONTROL WHICH WAS VERY SIMILAR TO YOUR OWN HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE, WE BOTH WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THESE PLACES TO OUR WORST ENEMIES.

Went here around 1983! They even had same curtains as holiday on the buses. Was ok though, so very different as of now

Spent many holidays here, even worked on the camp, I remember the good old days with captrain crocs club, now a roller disco or something along those lines, I went last year with my daughter and plan to take her again next year for a week she loves it here as I did as a child. They should bring back Captain crocs train and I still want to know why they changed the direction of the one way traffic it did go counter clockwise around the camp at one point. Lets hope its still open next year and Britannia dont run it further into the ground.

Why don't the government give all the rooms to our people who are living on the streets get them off the streets and into a nice warm room NOT living in the cold

Such a shame, the North Wales coast is a beautiful part of the world too. Look at how well Butlins has modernized and reinvented themselves, with a bit of imagination and investment they could do the same and turn themselves back into a little jewel in the crown of North Wales.

It's really a myth that Butlin's has reinvented itself. It's successful and sells out throughout the year and the Bognor Regis camp has three hotels, but the old chalets are still there and a lot at Bognor are very cramped; two single beds in a small chalet. The Pontin's chalets are so much bigger.

Completely different from when Holiday On The Buses was filmed there.

It's a shame they have let it get so run down, I'm sure that if they got their act together and actually tidied the whole place up inside and out, then they could double their prices and it would still be a bargain!

Lived in prestatyn as a kid my mum worked at Lyons holiday camp I thought it was lovely as a kid she worked in the camp shop happy days thanks for sharing your videos

You should definitely try Pontins Pakefield, it's the best Pontins of them all! Half board £69 Mon to Fri with all your bedding 🛌 and electric and entertainment included

I always bring limescale remove in the packets when I go on holiday so I can give the kettle a clean.

I spent my childhood on holidays in Rhyl and Prestatyn in the late 70s/early 80s. There were dunes, funfairs lots of attractions on the front. FFWD to now its sad to see its not even a shadow of itself.

I think the clue is in the job title 'cleaner' yes they are there to clean, sweep & mop the floors, clean the kitchen area including the fridge! It wouldn't hurt to pass a duster over the cobwebs! I would have been legging to the exit as fast as my little legs could carry me

I was a resident artist there for 3 years in the 90’s and I can honestly say the park was full to the brim great staff lovely holiday makers best time ever. Every cabaret room had bands on 6 nights a week, it saddens me to see it like this ! Come on pontins get your old time back again 👍

@@rchippy2319 Barf!! We stayed in Pontins Wall Park in Devon a few years ago. It was dreadful. Someone set on fire soon after and it had to be demolished. It had nothing to do with us...honest...😆

That place is shocking 😱. I would want paying to stay there.

We tried to stay there last August and although we’d booked a wheelchair chalet none of them we could get in to! The one we finally got allocated was worse than the cats litter tray! We after 40 minutes went to reception and started a refund which we got 2 months later. It’s such a shame and an iconic filming location in its last. Went past yesterday and everything is still there in the chalets!

@whoknowswhere We went to the Southport one in 2023, 30 minutes after checking in we checked out as we got to the apartment their was not cutlery, no beds shocking accommodation and room was covered in mold

I was in rhyl from the 25th sept till Sunday we came home early as rhyll to quiet and Llandudno was totally differant it was fantastic

Sad to see the decline. We stayed there for 2 weeks in 1980 when I was 15 and it was great.

To be honest.....I did go there maybe 30 years ago for a soul Weekender and you spend so little time in the chalet....you out having a good time and you eat out and only come back to kip....fond memories.

I used to go here every year for the snooker week. I remember it used to have a boating lake next the swimming pool. Also the snowdonia bar was nice.

Hi Paul great video. Understand it’s a main holiday of the year for people who carnt afford go abroad why carnt save up the money go abroad? Anyway looking at your room,facilities around the camp apart from entertainment I wouldn’t waste any money going there needs close down it’s a dump if I’m honest but thanks for your video& insight into the place👍

Reminds of North Sea Camp

I’ve been to holiday camps years ago and they were basic yet clean. But we used to clean from top to bottom first thing and do the same at the end of our stay as it would get inspected before we left. As it was already clean it didn’t take long. Pontins is particularly at fault but there are too many people who lack pride, with the mindset to leave for others to clean up as it’s their job to do so. This site would make excellent accommodation for the homeless who do not have complex needs or with a secure perimeter for illegal immigrants to be detained within the grounds until processed. It’s too late now but if Pontins employed people who acted as ‘ chalet supervisors’, one per block who lived in that block maintaining and keeping clean their block and surrounding grounds they could of helped people who need a job and accommodation and also kept standards up.

Holiday On The Buses was filmed there in 1973.Its interesting watching the movie and seeing how it used to look back then.

The downfall of Pontins is such a shame! I wonder what went so wrong, maybe different changes in management over the years. As so many I remember lovely times used to go with my Nan and grandad and lil sister, kids had more independence then I'd spend my time on the boating pool or cycling. , I remember the chalets were basic back then but there was so much to do.The toilet fiasco was so funny 😂 Brilliant video ❤️

End of a era

Well a good honest review it's a shame really because most of what you highlighted could very easily be put right but I suppose it all comes down to cost. If they need to employ more cleaning staff which clearly they do then the cost will have to be passed on with slightly higher prices it's not right that people should turn up to filthy accommodation in this day and age even if they are on a tight budget.

Went there for a competition in September 2023, and it was dirty aswell, they do supply sheets and towels for a price, which we used, all was brand new new. When we got back we was all very ill, there was damp in back bedroom, which my daughter didn’t tell me, until I went to sleep in there one afternoon.

Those filthy steps up to your accommodation, omg! And you hadn't even got thro the door then!!... What a dump!! Thnks for your review

Happy memories from 1970 ish, can recall electric meter needing coins and a big pub between the camp and the beach where parents went.

At least the weather was nice! It looks slightly more cheerful in the sun. We did a tour here earlier in the year. I wouldn’t stay there, the gulls have totally taken it over. As of yesterday it’s now closed! Britain is ran it into the ground. Cheers 🍻

When we went to Brean sands years ago it was absolutely spotless .white sheets on the beds it was fresh and clean ..all clean ..smelt of disenfectiant

Oh dear. I'm sorry I couldn't stay. I know housekeepers have not much time to clean, but that hasn't been cleaned properly at all. Yukky. But a fair review.

I need to start looking inside kettles, something I never do.

Id have dragged the cleaners back in and pointed out all the dirt and damage.

Years ago we were going to go there , so glad we didn’t , mind you the chalet at Ayr wasn’t great ither tbh , I asked to get moved to a caravan which was at least clean

It's such a shame that place has gone to ruin many people turn up there because holiday on the buses was filmed there people go for the Nostalgia to see where it was filmed

Had a weekend there 3 weeks ago,it is what you pay for a cheap holiday,had an amazing time,entertainment was amazing,had a lovely holiday there with the family

Butlins Minehead is worse

Pontins in Hemsby Norfolk was closed a few years ago left derelict for years but now the site is a housing Estate.

I went in 05 when i was 12 or 13. My nan went back to see family we are from Ireland so she hadn't seen them in a while so she booked this and brought me and a few of the cousins because it was close and cheap. Honestly i remember my poor nan being horrified about the place but me and the cousins had a great laugh lol. More so because of the mischief we got up too more than any of the entertainment but i have some great memories from it. Ohh and on the way back from playing pool we saw two people who must have been 60 plus having sex under a tree on our way home lol. Was kinda disturbing but to us kids we just laughed at them and ran off. They had like a fake wrestling show but the posters showed the real wwf guys so we thought they would be there lol we were stupid kids. I remember our disappointment when two fat guys in masks started doing like gymnastics and cartwheels in an old boxing ring. Thanks for this its brought back alot of memories.

Given that Brittania own Pontins, I'm not surprised at the grotty state of the place. Time it was all demolished

What does running it's course have to do with anything?

For Pontins standards, the Prestatyn one wasnt too bad, although was better the first time I visited in July 2016, the entertainment was quite good and hygiene was acceptable and helped with nice weather, the second time I visited in August 2021, the weather wasn't as good and had impacts from covid with more things closed, the hygiene again wasn't terrible but did have some stainy pillows, however the Southport Pontins I visited in August 2018, was literally a $hithole, there was a pair of knickers behind the couch and the floor was filthy, and the entrance to the place is literally like a prison wall, not too surprised they shut the Prestatyn one. but I have no idea how the Southport one is still allowed to be open.

Its such a shame - Butlins/pontins used to and stll should server a role for those not fortunbate enough to jet abroad twice a year. Brittania Hotels should be forced to take action on all of their sites. Its a shame. No excuse for bird crap and dirty rooms. How many people need jobs in the local area? Such a crying shame.

British seaside holidays are not a second-best choice instead of flying abroad It's a preference for various reasons. I've stayed at Butlin's many times - which has a choice of accommodation at all different prices - and Pontin's, for specific entertainment. And British resorts are where I like to stay - nothing to do with affordability. The furthest I've been is Jersey but I prefer our seaside.

Such a shame. It looks like it’s very close to a lovely long sandy beach.

I have been to that Prestatyn once or twice and it has quite a nice Indian restaurant by the rail station.It's claim to fame is that well known Yorkshire man Lord Prescott was born there and he seems to have replaced boy-o with e-up!

It was great in the 90s as a kid . Had 2 great holiday's there . Get yourself back to Benidorm Lad 😂

I can't see the need for complaints from people who wouldn't stay there anyway. I was happy with my stays at Camber Sands and Prestatyn.

How can a fully grown man not know how to sit on a toilet? Actually made me burst out laughing that bit.

Not been since 2014 but our accommodation was revolting 🤮 we left on the Wednesday morning, I wanted to stick it out till the Friday but we left early because I had enough, my friend said I should have left sooner but I wanted my family to have a little break away before my son went back to school, on the 1st day (Monday) I checked into the chalet at 4pm and I had to buy cleaning supplies and clean the chalet! I would never return again I’m sorry if I sound harsh but I didn’t enjoy my stay

Live a couple of miles away from Pontins, Prestatyn, disgusting place, no report or findings will ever bring how bad this place really is, My son used to work for them, few years back, vile, staff, conditions, managers, it starts from the very top, to the very bottom, then on top of all that, no cleaners, who work hours and I mean hours every day to try and make it look reasonably ok, doesn’t matter how many times you clean, bleach, disinfect, it’s still disgusting, rats, insects, bed bugs, not gonna mention plenty of other nasties that were found Don’t get paid, get treated just as bad as the conditions Makes me shudder everytime I drive past there

it does look like a displaced persons accommodation but they should sell it to the Government for economic migrants who come here on boats as it could be made clean and comfortable with communal dining area where the people could prepare there own meals etc 🙄
