Basically the same way that you can stand a certain way, with your left foot pointed out and your right foot straight, so anyone else that is also fellow can see your a friendly face.

A small note: It might be a better if dates (e.g. 638 to 558 B.C.) were not spoken aloud, and rather, emphasized on-screen. It clearly drags the script no matter how smoothly you say it; numbers are clunky to pronounce, and there is no inherent need to say them out loud.

I thought (and still suspect) that the ultimate reason is a gesture of peace, however ironic, kind of like the reason for the right-handed handshake. The dominant hand was the weapon hand, and so 'securing' it in some way, like in another person's hand, or a close-fitting upper garment away from the belt (where personal weapons were usually kept), put the other party at ease. I think I think too much.

WHile this was informative and interesting as usual, you overdid it with the numbers this time. With so many years being thrown into the mix, the numbers become rather meaningless. I've experienced that before. It's one of the many things that make history books so tedious to read. But in written text you can at least ignore it or just get a general feeling for the time the person lived for from just a glance. It's harder with spoken language, though. My suggestion would be to edit the year of birth and year of death in as a text with the picture, so people can glance at it, but not read it out.

Considering the size of the canvas involved and the likely outcome, I think headshots, especially tightly framed to crop out the hair and forehead would be extremely jarring if not utterly disconcerting. Just as jump cuts and quick edits are a feature of contemporary video that would have unnerved early TV viewers, I think applying modern portrait techniques to early audiences would have had similar results.

Bobby Giggz Did any painters from the past specialize in headshots only? Most did, and it's simple economics. Having your portrait painted was expensive, and the more added details the painter included, the more paint and time it took, so the higher the price. Most people could only afford the face with a few scant details. Most of those portraits are forgotten though, it's only the ones of important people that are remembered, and most of them had the bucks to spring for the full meal deal. In fact, it was a status symbol.

People literally attach emotion and feelings to the cross which is something that is not supposed to be done.

There is maybe even better reason for this. Painting hand is (surprisingly) far more difficult than painting a face. The price of a portrait was counted by its size (obviously) and hands were extra. Extra means significantly more money and time. Once face and hands (well the "skin") are done, the sitting is over and material (objects, clothes) can be done by painter alone. And option would be wearing glows, but it did not fit the dress code. In most of the occasions wearing glows (like keeping sunglasses) is considered as ill mannered. Simplest solution was to hide hands completely or partially. So either one wanted to save money or (being an emperor and so very busy to travel) to save time.

it is indeed! video is full of deliberate misinformation, the hand inside the coat thing is an obvious freemason handsign. don't let this shill fool you. instead of taking his word for it, go and do the research to find out the truth for yourself. the people seen in portraits doing it were all confirmed freemason

OsamaBinObama yuuup, and they are a bunch of follower sheep, they put all their faith in other men and brotherhood like dumbasses.. it's because they are super desperate for friends and shit.. in most cases they don't realize that they are being used and that everything they learn is backward and makes absolutely no sense.. fucking chaos to order bullshit, things always will be better if it's foward and the truth. Through history man has always used followers like freemason and soldiers to do all their dirty work and fuck everything up, if we had no followers our world would be a much better place because evil people would not have power.

Why pronounce it "Sholon"?! It's Greek, no need to butcher it.
