Why did I decide to buy an Infiniti QX70, Specifically model year 2015?

    I have a 2010 FX 35 with 90K and honestly I don't have a real reason to swap for a QX 70. If I find a low mileage example with the premium package or better I might shoot for it.

    Congratulations! Apart from being a few years newer, what do you think of the 2010 versus 2015? I have been saying to people that although they're both V6s, I felt like the 3.7 engine seems to work in better harmony with this chassis.

    I bought a black 2014 QX70S 5.0 lease return (since the 5.0 was no longer available) in Feb 2017. Running it with a Borla exhaust and new P275/45R21 V Continentals. Currently have 79,650 miles on the clock. Awesome car! It replaced our 2009 G37x which we owned from new. Would like to see Nissan/Infiniti come out with a performance all electric 700-800hp hi-tech retro replacement in a couple years time to trade up to!

    The QX70 in your video is identical to my 2014 QX70 that I bought brand new. To this day it has never been in the shop. Oil changes and battery changes only, plus 1 set of new tires. Ride and power are awesome. This is my 3rd Infiniti.

    Wow that was quite the deep dive into your state of mind during purchase 😁 but your thought process is very logical. I think you made the right move at the right time, especially since you know the FX/QX platform so well. I'm surprised you were not a big fan of the FX35, I owned that car for 12 years and it was even more nimble and sounds bad ass stock compared to the QX70. I remember watching your M videos years back hoping you would purchase that SUV.... haha.

    Thanks. These are usually big investments to me. If I like it, then I'm going to go deep into them. I have watched the FX platform (both 1st and 2nd gen) for years but didn't really like the 1st gen. It wasn't so much the power, but I didn't like their look and most importantly how they rode. I know the handling was good for an SUV, but that didn't seem enough to sway me enough.

  • @EdBwoy

    @EdBwoy

    I liked the 2nd generation more - both in looks, features and the balance of ride and handling. I didn't like how the 3.5HR engine worked with the early models (2009-2012) so that's the FX35 I was referring to in the video. I think the 3.7 engine works better for the kind of engagement I like.

How is the frame itself holding up in climate where they use salt in winter? How is the vehicle over all for reliability? my QX50 had few minor quirks, latest beeing that pass door would not open from outside (relatively easy fix). so what do you think? thanks in advance Greg

    May want to mention the transmission difference with the the FX models vs Murano (and other Nissan products). The lack of CVT is why we own 4 Infinitis, I was looking at Rogues for a while before finding the FX35 for daughter's first car. I couldn't trust her to eventually maintain the CVT properly when on her own.

  • @EdBwoy

    Heck, even I can't trust myself with the CVT. I had actually covered this in a different video where I was comparing the QX70 versus the Murano. It's an interesting series for people who would be in the market comparing the two. For example, the Nissan options (Rogue and Murano) are much more spacious and utilize it well. The FX/QX70 is simply a more engaging drivers car

    I know the market on other contemporary vehicles might make it seem like $27k is a lot of money for a 9 year-old vehicle (heck, even $22k might seem like a lot of money for a car with 100k miles), but I think the FX is good value for money. They were not cheap brand new, and apart from the mileage, they still retain their inherent engineering and design charm. But - *and this is a big "BUT"* - this only matters if you really like the car. I usually advise people that it might seem like nice prize to dream for because we are Infiniti people, but once you actually own one you find that it doesn't suit you.

  • @EdBwoy

    @EdBwoy

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thank you! I think it would be a great vehicle for a teen, whether it be a first vehicle or a "next step" vehicle. 1. They are generally reliable (the 3.7 engine was used in a lot of Nissan products), and that dependability goes beyond the engine 2. They are fun to drive, since they are made on a sporty platform 3. They are safe. Depending on the package yours has, you might get a lot of additional tech features like intelligent cruise control, lane departure warning and forward collision warning. Those are great for the cases where you as the driver are inattentive; but even for the unavoidable events when you are the victim, the vehicle is built very well to protect it's occupants. 4. The only downside might be the fuel economy. It is not bad for the kind of vehicle that it is, but there are other small SUVs with better gas mileage. However, in the grand scheme of things, we like it.

    Outside of that, thankfully the other systems are pretty robust and not too much tends to go wrong with them. Just keep an eye out for water intrusion on the older model, as it can short your modules.

    No problem, glad to help. The front seats were comfortable especially with the seats all the way back, but that meant the rear seats got very little legroom...in case you have passengers back there.

    These were the last of the good Infiniti line up. One thing is the Infiniti black paint is a PIA to maintain if you are particular about swirls or spider webbing. Most black cars are, but the paint they use is really a PIA even compared to other makes, it is easily marred with the slightest thing. The new line up they have is just trash all around. They look like plain commuter cars now. Their SUVs look like trash, their sedans are ugly. Infiniti really lost the momentum it had, whoever they have leading the design team now is a fool for changing things in the wrong direction. They could have continued and made some really futuristic design concepts and toned them down a bit for production, instead they went the safe route and now you have a bland and flat line up of junk that doesnt really even stand out against its competition. These were the last of the exciting Infiniti's. I guess NIssan decided to not make nice looking vehicles anymore. They just stopped, look at the ugly line up now, its a real shame.

    Sorry I missed your comment when you posted it. Mine was bought at the height of the used car market, and they were asking for maybe $18k It was a great price, considering it was everything we wanted at the time. Obviously, things have changed a lot since
