    It was the failure to take the Oil fields in the USSR. The Panzers ground to a halt. Overstretched supply lines as with Napoleon.

    Germany bit off more than it could chew. If it had fought an aggressive war in the east and a defensive war in the west, they may have been able to settle for huge territorial gains in Eastern Europe and the status quo in the west.
