What a great example of a brave man, that Commander at the end of the episode is. Leading by example and understanding that every soldier has fear. The main thing is, as far as I can tell, to know that your fellow soldiers are all of the same mindset, and have your back. Glory to Ukraine and Glory to The Heroes...

Please encourage Ukrainians to tour the United States. I attended screenings of 20 Days In Mariupol, Freedom On Fire, and an art event at a local synagogue. To meet and hand-to-hand contribute funding to Ukrainians advances both the strength of Ukraine and the understanding that Americans now risk direct confrontation with the would-be Czar and his armies of zombies. Ukrainians emphasize they need weapons and funding, not our soldiers. If Ukraine does not stop the Czar, Europeans and Americans will bleed next. And read the New York Times 'opinion' written by J.D.Vance, one of the Republican isolationists. He misstates many details, manufactures defeatism, and thinks the Atlantic Ocean protects the United States. I encourage The Telegraph to voice his obedience to Putin and Trump, then inform him of his ignorance and cowardice.

Nothing really new about trying lasers in this way though the technology is no doubt getting better. What has been known for a long time is that the major range limiting factor is "Thermal Bloom". Basically the laser also heats up the air it passes through and as air (and the water vapour therein" heats it becoming opaque and absorbing more of the energy effectively dispersing and reflecting the laser. So there is a limit to range - though I'm sure lots of techno-tweaks are being made to extend the point at which this happens. I would guess 8 smaller lasers converging at the target point is part of this.

If only it were that easy... The one's that are obviously pro-Russia regardless of the situation, those are bots. But there are people that can see the current trajectory is not going to end well, aid or no, and are screaming that if Ukraine wants to remain a sovereign nation it will have to negotiate, and soon. Better to lose 20% of your territory than 50%, 70%, all of it. I mean we're seeing reports from the west that Russian forces are stronger now than at the start, with essentially the same number of tanks/armor & 6x the 152-155mm artillery than Ukraine possesses. Aid is not going to help in that regard, especially when they are already congregating forces in two areas for an obvious inward blitz that will rip the defense wide-open. That's looking like it might be a go in the next week or so... It's not "fair", but the best way to save lives is to agree to a settlement. But I suppose any dissent that is against EU saber-rattling = "Russian bots" whether the argument is sound or not.

Wavelength has many implications for the performance of a beamed weapon. Longer wavelengths like radio are less coherent (they tend to go everwhere) but penetrate through fog and smoke better. Propogation of radiation through particles, i.e. smoke, is proportional to the fourth power of the wavelength (from memory)

Several decades ago I read a New Scientist on a plane. The article was about using microwaves to remove brain tumours. The concept was that narrow waves from many different directions could pass harmlessly through the brain, but where they all crossed it essentially created an “energy scalpel” that could be used to break up a tumour. I have no clue if this is now mainstream, but at the time I wondered if it was scaled up, could the same concept (a network of lasers focused on the same target) could be used for air defence.

Russian troops destroyed the first Khmara electronic warfare station of the Ukrainian army over the past day in the special military operation in Ukraine, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported on Monday. Russian troops destroyed the Khmara jammer in the Avdeyevka area, it specified. "In counter-battery fire, the following targets were destroyed: a US-made 155mm M109 Paladin self-propelled artillery gun, a 152mm Akatsiya self-propelled artillery gun, a 122mm Gvozdika motorized artillery system, three 122mm D-30 howitzers, a US-manufactured 105mm M102 howitzer and a Khmara electronic warfare station," the ministry said in a statement.

A laser beam to destroy a item flying through the air! Great idea! However if a smoke bomb will prevent the laser from striking the target, it seems easy to prevent them from being effective. Hopefully the can make it work well.

Dragonfire isn’t very strong at 55 Kw, Isreal’s iron dome is 100 Kw, the US laser is 300 Kw so its very under powered in comparison with its near peers, great news we’re in the business but a lot of catching up to do

Perhaps Europe should do as whip round and give Ukrainian front line troops a very healthy combat pay rise and health insurance premiums paid for life in European medical facilities. May turn out to be a very effective and inexpensive investment.

Constructive interference does not make a laser more than the sum of its parts. If the interference is optimal, it just makes it equal to the sum of all smaller lasers.
