UK would be very well advised to get on and build four or five large nuclear power plants, preferably of the very well proven and versatile CANDU design, upgraded to CANDU6.

Agreed …. But I’m afraid the politicians have squandered all the money and even if we had access to the funding no one would supply us with uranium …. we’ve burnt all our bridges when it comes to uranium supply.

The events in 21 and 89 were both large enough for the time; anything larger isn't due for a few hundred years (we're not even 200 years past the last one). Plus it is the UK; would they even notice the difference?

This is never going to happen because for one, Ukraine doesn’t meet any of the EU membership criteria (and is the most corrupt European country) and second, the rebuilding would require huge funds to be diverted from current net recipients to Ukraine. With Germany now facing deindustrialisation and a demographic collapse they will no longer be able to finance the EU, and I rather doubt Poland will be happy to give up their economic growth and go from net recipients to net donors just help Ukraine. To let Ukraine in will require so much rule bending that it will just accelerate the end of the EU, or at best it becoming a local version of the UN.

It would be completely stupid and wholly naive for the Ukraine to join the EU (which is nosediving in any case), just like it would be for the Ukraine to join NATO. These people appear to me to be deluded.

Yeah, Ukraine gained so much...a debt to Poland that they will have to pay off with own territory (Lviv and nearby region), landlease debt that they won't be able to pay off for a century, wrecked economy, status of most corrupt country in Europe. Bit more effort and Ukraine will stop it's existence. Amazing gains 😂😂
