Why did a recreational camper choose Hilleberg.(Allak 2).

Hilleberg tents are famous for their strength and premium quality and also their high price tags. Perfect for expeditions in harsh climates but over kill for a recreational wild camper like myself. This video explains why I invested into the Allak 2.

Reasons for buying a tent costing a grand? You wanted one. It's your money and sod all to do with anyone else what you spend it on, apart from your other half! It doesn't matter whether you camp 365 nights a year, or 1. If you want that tent, and you can afford it, then that's all you need. Thank you for a detailed review and happy camping!

Thanks Ste for your comments. The Allak like all Hilleberg tents is eye watering expensive. That said, I’ve had two nights now where the weather has unexpectedly come in really bad in the dead of the night and it’s at those moments that the Allak was worth every penny, The peace of mind that I knew I was able to ride it out and my dog would be safe was worth every penny,

Excellent and thorough review of this tent. We bought the Nallo 2GT as a slightly roomier tunnel, but it is really not as roomy and easy to use for two as our Exped Venus2 which is very similar quality. Re the width - the Venus2 is a similar width at 1.25m but we are quite happy with our two Exped Synmats that are 65cm wide. They snug right in and all our gear goes in the vestibule, quite accessible and still leaving us room to get in/out. One thing that I note about the Allak2 is that the doors seem to taper inwards; the Venus2 has actual vertical doors so internal space is maximised, and the tent remains dry even if the fly doors are fully open in rain.

Hilleberg tents are great. Have the Allan 2, and use that if me and my better half are hiking, or I need a bit more room by myself. Usually if I’m by myself, I use the Soulo which is a bomber piece of kit. Although it is quite a bit smaller than the Allan 2, I love that tent. It can stand up to just about anything. Buy Hilleberg, and you get a quality piece of kit that will last for years and years (if you take care of it). All the best for the new year 🇳🇴

Subbed as soon as I saw Allak 2. I had a Nammatj 3 GT many years ago, sold it and gave up camping. Now starting to get active outdoors again and vowed to start exploring the beautiful nature here in Norway. I had thought the Niak was my choice to buy, but the Allak 2 looks absolutely perfect and I hope to buy it in 4 weeks time. I plan to cycle to my camps so weight isnt a major issue for me. I like the idea of having my gear in one porch and my cooking area in the other. But great tent if my wife comes with me camping, and very handy to have 2 doors. When I had the Nammatj, I always felt too hot in summer, couldnt get good airflow through the tent. Allak 2 definitely solves that problem, plus being a 4-season it ticks every box for me! Excellent review and look forward to following your channel!

It’s a huge investment for a tent and I was hovering my finger over the order button for weeks if not months! Even when the tent arrived I was doubtful of my judgement on spending so much on a tent. However now I’m so pleased with it and it’s a pleasure to go camping in it. Every time I pitch it I’m proud of it. I was caught out in bad weather one night and I just rolled over in my sleeping bag a let the tent rock me back to sleep (with ear plugs) because I knew the tent would easily cope with it. That’s when the you feel the return on the investment.

I'm absolutely going to get this tent. At 3 and a half kilos it is heavy, (kinda) but then I go lightweight with the rest of my gear, so my pack for a 2 night wild camp is still only around 10kg. Which is more than manageable. For me, it's all about the extra space, the extra comfort and the extra safety. On a windy night on Helvellyn, I simply don't trust anything else to do the job, and I also want the extra room to start to take my little seven year old with me and get her excited for these little adventures. To do so, she has to be safe and feel secure, so she doesn't get put off. So for me, it's worth the extra cost. It's an investment in her future as much as anything. If that makes sense.

Bikepacking good point. I am a weekend warrior. Nothing can last forever so any tent getting a daily battering will develop problems. Hilleberg use the best materials on the market second to none. The Poles are also the best on the market so for this cycle tourer to go through two sets indicates that the tent was being pitched in conditions outside of its design. The Allak 2 is a red label tent where strength is compromised for weight. The cycle tourer would have been better with the Staika which is similar to the Allak but Is a black label which is Hilleberg strongest tents.

Ben Turner Hi Ben. I love the red colour but when wild camping here in Wales I don’t want to be seen. The dark green offers stealth over red especially for a tent the size of the Allak. The only issue as a tall user is when I’m stretched out on my back occasionally I will have a damp foot end on my bag. Only happened a couple of times as when I actually sleep my legs are normally bent. However I can sit up comfortably and move around fine and I’ve never felt the tent is to small for me. The alternative would be a tunnel tent but there are many benefits to the Allak my favourite being able to pitch it in any wind direction and It looks absolutely stunning when pitched. Also the huge vestibules are great for preparing food when the weather is bad. One of the best tents Hilleberg have made hence it’s so popular. Expensive item but it’s a tent for life.

I wish I could recommend this company. I have owned their Tarra and was happy with the tent. But after experiencing how the founders son is such a bully online, I sold the tent. I dont want to be associalted with this name ever again.

Crikey. That’s really bad. Did you report it up the line? Petra has a strong presence online for the brand... she seems really nice.

Their prices aren't getting ridiculous, it's the UK's prices for products (and salaries) that are being kept ridiculously low. The price of a shirt today is the same as it was in 1985, or cheaper. Amazing that there's no inflation in the UK! How does the country achieve this feat? By driving down quality. People are paying for garbage products from Bangladesh and China, but at least it's affordable! Everything is classed as a "good deal" as long it's cheap. Personally I'd rather buy quality gear, and that means quailty materials, quality engineering and craftsmanship from a family-owned company with some ethics.

I think your measurements of reading the catalogue should not have you second guess yourself after purchase, if the tent supports 6,4" then it should not intrude at all at that length! But i dont know what the catalogue say, i just think you are too kind of a customer (from this point of view, not knowing all facts)!

Denstoradiskmaskinen I totally agree, thanks for your comments. I’m 193cm tall. The tent length according to the catalogue is 225cm. So 32cm spare should cover the bulk of my sleeping bag at my head and at my feet and would have been fine if the tent didn’t concave from the floor. It’s a minor compromise for an awesome tent. The alternative would have been to go for a tunnel tent where my feet would have been pressing on the internal door but I would lose the awesome vestibules on the Allak.

@@FlyCampCaravanNorthWales we have the Kaitum and love it. The ends are vertical and there are also two entrances but it needs pegs
