Best review on this tent that I've seen. Did you fit the 2 additional loops at the ends? It's probably too early in the season to say whether or not they were a success. As you say, it is a luxurious, airy tent and due to its weight works best when you don't have to carry it. Since it is the case that it is really designed for kayak or motorbike, I don't understand why Hilleberg skimp on the pockets. Maybe they reached a design weight limit and decided that extra pockets were an unnecessary breach of that limit. I've only seen a couple of your videos so far but you have a disarmingly honest and pleasant style which promises a successful future as a YT producer. I have a couple of questions on seam sealers and fluorescent clam cleats but will first look to see if you have commented on these already in any of your other videos. Tack Matti.

Thanks very much! I haven't add this loops to the tent yet. I also agree about the extra pockets but as you write we know that people look very much at the weight of the tent. I have no experience of seemseelers yet. We will keep up the work with this channel. We just have a small problem.and we don't really know how to produce good videos during our high season with tours. That could be little bit difficult... but we will try! /Matti

This is how shopping should be. You buy quality and you had to wait sometimes. Not this crazy impulse shopping with lots of stuff that yo actually don't want or need. This is really how you should make sustainable consumption! 😀 When it's like this there is also a good price for second hand products. Then you will get some money back if you sell instead of keeping it at the shelf in your garage. 😀 ...and the Hilleberg crew are amazing. Helpful and it seems like they love the tents and that they want us as users to have good tents. It's not only about getting our money. /Matti

But, still love both of my Hilles and find a lot of uses for both. Great tents and long time investments, since well treated they will serve you long.

Hi Matti, a very good review. I have the Allak 3. I purchased it towards the end of 2020 but have only recently started using it due to lockdown. With regards to some of your comments about the Allak 2, the 3 person has additional pockets. There are three on either side (6 total) rather than one either side on the Allak 2. But still nothing compared to North Face etc. where my Mountain 24 has large useful pockets all the way around. The downside is it is inner pitch first. The Hilli is far more practical in European climates, especially the UK with periodic wet weather. Also I like the fact that the vestibule is part of the tent frame so there is less movement of fabric in windy conditions Also, the Allak 3 has addressed your comment by added the loops to the base of the front and back so you can peg them out and reduce the likelihood that there is any contact between the fly and the inner during high winds. Aside from that I think it is merely a wider version than the two person, with 10cm added to the length (230cm) and 5cm to the height (115cm). I have the footprint. I had very minimal condensation this weekend (-1c at night with two adults and a child inside, with both vents open and the top third of the door with mesh only).

Thank you for your review. I live in United States of America. I am looking for a strong robust 4 season tent for all types of weather possibilities. This Helleberg tent is perfect for all those needs of mine...EXCEPT! My purpose is to go travel on long tour 3 wheel bicycle (a recumbent trike). Weight is a Big downside, because when traveling on bicycle you need to have all your gear super light and be able to pack down as small as possible to fit in your panniers bags. In every other situation, I think Helleberg tent is the absolute best tent choice for all types of weather. But...for Backpacking or bicycle touring, these tents are too heavy and too big for pack down size. So it leaves me in difficult situation, because I want a 4 season tent for all types of possible weather. A tent that I won't be too uncomfortable freezing in cold weather and or windy weather. All other 3 season tents, the fly never comes all the way down to the ground. So blowing dust, sand dirt can get underneath and inside your tent. Which is disgusting. So...I am in a dilemma on what to do. I'm not so worried about the extra weight 3.3 kilos vs average weight of other tents 1.5 to 2 kilos weight, but the pack down size is my main concern on limited space on bicycle bags. I'm not sure what I should do for possible all types of weather sleeping tent.

Thanks for the great review of the Allak 2. You were saying you wish it had better ventilation. What about when opening both doors - either partial or more fully open. Wouldn't that give good cross ventilation an d be far better than 1 door tents? That doesn't even take into consideration the vents over the doors.

  • @JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA

    @JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA

You are right if it's good weather. A sunny day it's lovely to open the door on both sides to cool down little bit. The problem is when you get bad weather. Then you need weather proof ventilation. If you open the doors it will rain into the tent. That's why I like Hilleberg Akto. The cap over the vent in the door makes it possible to use the door ventilation even if it's little bit rough weather. But it's super with two doors if it's good weather and you want to cool of. :-) /Matti

Had been great to try out a Hilleberg tent some day in the future. Maybe I'ma bit odd but, I do love selfstanding Dome Tents. The biggest problem I see is that very few tentmakers look at what kind of sleeping system people are using. I love those wide 64 cm wide and square sleeping pads. So the 130 cm upper end is ok but the 120 cm footend is just catastrophic. That's why I got myself a light 4P tent and stick to parts of Sweden that works for me. Just hope some more could try to push those tentmakers to be a bit more open to this.

My wife and I camped on Okstindan, the highest mountain in Northern Norway, and the winds picked up to over 80 knots but the Allak held up with no problem. While it is a little heavy as a solo tent it is quite manageable when splitting it between two people. However, I love it so much that I don’t mind carrying it solo on shorter outings. I’m going to pick up the Hilleberg Niak for longer treks if I could only find one in stock. Hillebergs have disappeared during the pandemic. (Edit: Perhaps the Fjällräven Keb Dome tent would be what you are looking for as it has the two extra vents for cross ventilation in addition to netting on the fly doors. I’m considering this tent for both winter excursions and summer kayaking.)

@@mariuskarlsson1742 Yes, I’m sure. It was crazy. It only lasted for about one hour as the front passed through but I had set up the tent and went outside and tightened the guy lines. The windward pole was bent in over but didn’t break. I was there with a group of teacher students. They were inside the cabin (Rabot Hytte) and there is a weather station, there. I checked it and it did indeed peak at 81 knots. The footprint was flooded but the bathtub floor was dry. My wife and I slept like babies. Of course, the 1000+ meter climb to the top earlier helped with that. I love the Allak. I also bought a similar Fjällräven Keb Dome 3 for winter camping as the Allak 2 doesn’t fit our Mammut extreme sleeping mats at 70cm each. For me, the 3 pole dome designs of the Swedish brands are the absolute best for all weather, all season camping, despite their heavier weights. I still want a Hilleberg Niak for longer, solo 3 season treks, however.

You know what's happening with the maps that you are folding... where will the map break. I'm also stuffing the tent because I'm lazy and sometimes working in bad weather conditions. There is one super important thing that we had to mention. When you store the tent between the tours it must be dry!!! Never store a wet tent... of course it's wet during the tours but that's not a big problem as long as you use the tent now and then. Thanks for your question. I’m changing my mind back and forward all the time. Right now probably Hilleberg Nallo GT is one favourite. Allan is good but heavy. If you need a self-standing tent for ex kayaking it’s super. I will come up with some more videos about tents during this fall. /Matti

I have been looking at the Allak 2 and the Exped Orion II UL and yes I am a paddle guy ;-). The Exped I own has better ventilation and more space/pockets inside but I miss the super easy set-up of the Allak. I believe that Hilleberg should give more effort to 'modernise' some aspects of their tents, then they would be perfect and worth the extra price. Great review Mati, best and most honoust today!

Tumbs up for a hands-on review! Any thoughts about the zippers? There´s a small opening in between the zippers when you close them. Have you had any problems with mosquitos or "knott" (smaller ones) coming into the inner tent through this gap? Do you find the vestibules big enough? Thanks!

  • @JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA

Thanks for a nice comment! The gap in the zippers... I close as much as possible. That's not a problem but maybe a few will entry to the food bar... hmmm... I think I would just put som mosquito repellent at that spot. The vestibule is always to small when you use it in bad weather and the tent is always to heavy when you carry it in a backpack. 😀 I think it's small but with some planning it works even for cooking food. /Matti

I was a few days ago in the fjäll with my Allak 2 and it was Knott-pocalypse out there. With the mosquito nets they mostly don't get in, the issue is that in really warm days the air circulation is not as good, very warm despite having everything open with the mosquito nets. The tent is wonderful, so easy to pitch. Love specially the two doors, when you are up there in the mountain you get a very wide point of view and sleeping siesta with both open is fantastic. Top quality design.

Very nice relaxed video in low sun 😎. One correction is that the mesh inner is not lighter weight than the standard inner, just better vented and less warm. I was a bit surprised at your comments about poor ventilation in the Allak. The combination of roof openings, opposite door openings, and the possibility of opening one door a little on the leeward (downwind) side surely makes it one of the best Hillebergs for ventilation?

  • @JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA

Thanks! I didn't know that the mech inner was the same weight as the standard. Interesting! Thanks for that comment. Ventilation... I compare with a tunneltent or with a tent like Enan/Allak. Thats much better ventilation. What I think I will try on my Allak is to put something under the flyer that keep a gap between the ground and the flyer on the wind side. Then the wind maybe will push in there and then out through the vent in the roof. What do you think? / Matti

Hej Simon! /Matti
