Nice comprehensive video! I recently upgraded to this model. Very happy with it. Even without using a vacuum, the dust port seems to channel the sawdust away from the work. I like the more compact sized motor and the light too. Gave my proven DCS393 to my nephew, who is very happy with that saw too. A win-win for everybody.

One of my favorite things about the saw is the LED light flashes to alert me when the battery is low. The profile, height off the work surface. It feels really good in the hand, great line of sight. Great Video Brother.🤠🤓😎

Have the older brushed with alloy base. Got it new dirt cheap. Love it. Just bought this one. Paid $95. New from a local store. Retail in Wisconsin is $179 now. These are excellent tools for wood working. For cutting metal and nasty wood with nails I use 7+1/4.

I've had this saw for 10 months or so. I like it quite a bit - small & powerful. My only criticisms are that the bevel degree gauge is rather faintly stamped and hard to read sometimes. Also, to make mine cut 100% square, I had to shave a tiny bit of material from the top side of the shoe because it was contacting the underside of the motor. It was only off about 1/32", but I wanted it perfect.

It’s worth noting that both have a place in your toolbox. The left hand blades are nice for general use while the right hand cut are nice for ripping boards and ply where you want the majority of the shoe to be on the part that isn’t going to fall to the ground. Ends up with straighter cuts and less fatigue. I own and use both.

Yo Brad, good to see you with a review up! Hope y’all been well. Ya know, this saw and design goes all the way back to the 18 volt NiCd days. I concur with you and Lou on the blade guard; DeWalt puts some secret sauce in that plastic. This new saw was met with big anticipation by myself, and was I let down! I think I got a Friday saw or something, as the arbor had horrific run out, the blade screw went on like it’s threads were stripped or something? Add to that a bowed baseplate, and the fiddly bevel adjustment lever, and I returned mine. Both you and Brian with WorkShopAddict seemed to like it, so mine must have been a bad copy. On a positive note, the new brushless motor is nice, and saw has good feel and balance. YMMV. Oh, on the left vs the right debate, to each their own, and it also has to do with the application. You should cut the opposite way Brad, if possible, as it keeps more of the baseplate on the material. I prefer both types, and like the left hand blade for rip cuts, and the right hand side for cross cutting, against a speed square. If you made it this far, congrats Thanks! Stay well! 👏🏻👍👍👍👍👍😁✌🏻🇺🇸🔨

Thanks George , we are doing well and crazy busy this summer. Trying to get more reviews out soon. I have been using this saw a lot lately and it does take a bit of getting used to when it comes to lining up the marks on the front to my pencil line. It’s set up a bit differently then it’s older brother. I’ll probably do a small video on it to see what others think. Take care

You handle the saw with your right hand. Me too. But the cuts you made on this video had the wide part of the shoe hanging in empty space. The saw would be more stable if you cut from the LH side of the stud but then you'd have to cross your arms to hold the stud. That's why I prefer a RH saw for a right handed guy.

i use this saw every day, and i can't even remember a kick back, i have had wood close up on the blade when cutting, it usually just stops the cut. i like using the smaller saws because the kick back is less, if you get a kick back on a flexvolt saw, your gonna feel it. so being more careful is recommended .

Excellent review! This blade-left vs blade-right debate has me puzzled. As a right handed person I imagine having a blade left saw is optimal since I get a clear view of the blade as it starts creating the kerf. But at the same time the weight of the saw will be on the waste end meaning small adjustment cuts will only have a small part of the base as support. How does one keep the cuts true when balancing on the thin edge to the left of the blade?

I read a complaint somewhere against the 6 1/2 size saw because, - I'm paraphrasing, when doing a 45 degree cut it won't go as deep as a 7 1/4 blade, limiting you to cutting plywood and 2x4's. I don't know if this was an actual saw owner or not. Can you comment on that? Thanks.

Regardless of the degree of your cut a 6 1/2 inch saw will cut less depth of material VS a 7 1/4 inch saw I believe the cutting depth of this saw is 55mm or 42mm cutting at a 45 degree

Cons - need More torque, the plastic guard gets caught up while thin cuts, And safely button sucks that need to be revamped completely not user friendly I glue mine Beacuse it get annoying.. 7.5/10 for just those reasons Pros-- the weight, can use all day.. will cut everything. My worker fight over this saw better to have two.. can take some drops but not all. Go to saw for sure.. over 7-1/2 saw To bulky n heavy.

It rings up as if you bought the bare tool. then go buy the battery deal and free tool again with that store credit and wind up with 4 batteries and 1 saw... I wouldn't recommend doing it twice bc they take your ID for any returns without receipt and would probably catch on to what you're doing. But for now it's a glitch in the system hehe

For me the quality of the 6 1/2 brushless model is disappointing. The shoe wasn’t adjusted correctly out of the box, had to tune the stop to get a 90” cut. Worse yet the shoe itself is not completely flat. There is also a lot of lateral slop in the blade, probably from loose tolerances in the shaft assembly. Not a saw you want to use if square cuts are important. The plastic blade guard is also junk, don’t care how tough they claim it to be, rattles around and flexes when in use. It’s a shame because the smaller size and handling is great. Paired with the powerstack battery it’s plenty powerful and lightweight. Hopefully one day they will offer a better quality version comparable to the 7 1/4 XR.
