    5:54 Can we disagree with this? I mean, we didn't write the meta, we just have to play by the patch notes. For if an applicant is ignorant enough to honestly support Boko Haram, ISIL, ISIS, Al Shabab, Al Qaeda, Jemaah Islamiyah, and Sinn Féin while they obviously freely operate in the Europe, the U.K. and The West, generally with the financial backing of the U.N, then maybe they should stand in a court of law as a supporter of recognized terrorist groups. ¿Porqué No!? And obviously ZERO American universities seem to think discrimination is a moral wrong, so... Play the Game, and Play to Win! It's time to discriminate against HAMAS - Supporters and their ilk. EVERYONE who supported CHAZ / CHOP, BLM, ANTIFA, etcetera should be placed on on list of extremist ideologues. Someone needs to be held accountable for Minneapolis, which is not going to recover from their brand of terrorism. They knowingly tried to burn the owner of a small business alive in the Summer of Love in Minneapolis! I think he was a black business owner, too. The downtown isn't recovering from their terrorist activity. It won't. It's just not. If a student cannot immediately explain who is buried in Grant's Tomb, maybe they support the Islamic Institution of Slavery and _should be_ disqualified from matriculation, _that_ wouldn't be discrimination! We're experiencing 1865 all over against the same damnable pro-slavery plantation white-hooded Klansmen, except now they have the full-throated and deep-pocketed support of the CCP, the Kremlin, Tehran, the Qataris, and (as usual) the Papacy in Vatican City.

    It's illegal. My employer has mandatory DEI training every year - it's a publicly traded company. I participated in it my first year, and it was shockingly racist. When year two came around I told my boss I would not be participating in this training again. He told me it was mandatory. I told him it is racist and it is against the law - and that if I am made to participate, I will sue. He never mentioned it to me again. I have now not participated in it two years in a row. I guess they decided my contribution to the company as a senior engineer is more valuable than losing me over DEI training or risking a lawsuit. Compelled speech in the workplace is a civil rights violation. My employer can't make me use the preferred pronouns of lunatics. There is someone in HR whose preferred pronouns are "cloud" and "cloudself." Nope. Not doing it.

    When we were children, probably all of our mothers taught us that "two wrongs don't make a right." "Positive discrimination" is a second wrong which doesn't make a right. As you said, "positive discrimination" is simply discrimination. It doesn't matter how just your intentions are. Back around 1990, I was a graduate student at prominent university in Silicon Valley. A friend of mine was just finishing up his PhD and saw that a prominent university across the bay had advertised a faculty search for his exact field of expertise. My friend, we'll call him N., was a minority. He was from India. N. called up the head of the search committee, told professor about his research, and asked if he could come present his work. The head of the search committee said "You could but it would be a waste of time, because this position is for a woman." It is true that there was, at the time, a dearth of women faculty members in engineering and recruiting more women as faculty members in engineering is a laudable goal. But the reality is that the head of the search committee discriminated against N. In fact, what the head of the search committee did was illegal. Discrimination is always wrong, even if you have laudable goals behind it.

    I had an interview this morning. It was rescheduled because the recruiter calling me was incompetent and double booked. During the call i was asked if I am black or from an ethnic minority, and was then given a 2 minute lecture on how they are ‘elevated in our hiring process because they are underrepresented in our work force’. I looked at their team photo on their website. What do you think I saw? As for the interview, after saying ‘I don’t need to do anything like that’ the tone of the interview shifted entirely and was just the weirdest interview I have ever had. She started basically telling me how high pressure, stressful and terrible the job was. She even gave a literal 10 second pause of silence, where I nervously laughed and said ‘… uh ok..’ she basically kept flusteredly asking me if I ‘thought I was suitable for that role (it really is very stressful and high pressure).’ At which point I gave up trying to explain I had worked in those situations before quite fine. I told her ‘yeah I think I’m going to end this here’. She (very bizarrely clearly relieved) said ‘ok that’s fine, I’ll withdraw your application rather than reject you’. Which I genuinely loudly laughed at.

    Konstatin proposes a "failed" concept (DEI) but doesn't offer anything to offset the lack of diversity. I'm not sure about the UK, but here in the US, we have a fundamental problem of different starting point. Let me explain, education in the US is primarily funded by local taxes, more specifically property taxes. Almost 90% of the property taxes (depends on the state and county) is going to the local school board and it is based on the value of the property. It's very easy to see that counties with higher property value, siphon more taxes for schools than counties with high poverty rate. Those taxes do not go to the state for more even distribution they stay in the county. The results are, that people who grew up in poor counties, have poorer education and thus a disadvantaged starting point in life.

  • @polysaturated

    I don’t think a good school will be fully able to compensate for a bad home environment, poverty comes with a host of other problems. A lot of western societies seem to have a massive problem with social mobility. Equal opportunity doesn’t exist, for some people there is almost zero opportunity. We need to create more opportunities, especially for those who aren’t well educated to build wealth. And the culture needs to change too, if you look at African immigrants, they usually do a lot better than African Americans - why is that? Might it be wrong values, reinforced by the wrong incentives?

  • @ziv2liv

    @ziv2liv

    4 ай бұрын

    @@polysaturated First, I don't disagree that social media is a problem and I agree that equal opportunity doesn't exist, but having better public schools would make it more of an even playing field. Some of it would be to bring back vocational training. Nobody argues that everyone needs to acquire high education, but everyone needs to acquire skills. Today there are plumbers who make more than those who acquire a master degree in social work. As an immigrant myself, I agree with your statement regarding Africans, but that is the truth across the board with immigrants. Immigrants come to the US with no demands or expectation and tend to do better. My wife was born and raised in Jamaica and she's doing way better than many African Americans.

    My spouse is a professor at a university in Western Canada. She sits on a hiring committee for research profs. She said the committee leaders have been pushing an aboriginal Canadian applicant very hard even though her accomplishments make her the lowest qualified of the 10 shortlisted candidates. Reasons for this favouritism is because “you have to think of how much harder her path has been to get here compared to the others”. Turns out the applicants parents are both well educated and wealthy and not some sad sack case that the committee was trying to push. Thankfully, my spouse pushed back hard on this and the committee ultimately went with the most qualified over the DEI hire. If it can happen at this little university in Western Canada, it can happen anywhere.

    I've worked in HR for a long time. At first all the Diversity and inclusion was not bad. You taught people how to identify their own biases (and everyone has biases) and not to have the impact your decisions about people. You worked to find good hires of ALL genders and ethnicities for your company (based on skill and ability). You work for inclusion for things like the ADA or other issues (reasonable changes to get a good worker in place). But then it all started changing and going dark. Actual quotas on hiring would be illegal. So they created performance review items for managers about being about to support the companies goals of being diverse. They tied they review to financial incentives and bonuses. And then the trainers would point out sure you can hire that very qualified white person, or, you can hire this minority or female who meets the job requirements which you can then crow about in your review which gives you a better bonus and pay! No goals, just carrots to lead down the dark side. And then in recent years it's gotten worse. Equity (which is defined as Justice and Fairness) was added. And of course Justice means punishing people who did wrong and fixing it for those who were wronged, and we all what to be warriors for justice right? And that's when the full reverse discrimination set it. Oh it's not wrong to exclude whites from hiring, it's Equity (Justice) correcting the wrongs of the past. Like any hate group they have found a way to justify their hate and justify their self empowerment at the expense of others, and feel no guilt. And because of this DEI has to die, as the people supporting this whole push for Equity have corrupted every facet of the process.
