Konstantin Kisin | What makes the West great

Find part 2 here; • Konstantin Kisin | Ide...
What happens when you ship a bunch of criminals to a barren country filled with venomous creatures? A country Konstantin Kisin thinks is doing a few things right, but also has a lot at stake.
Konstantin Kisin is a British-Russian comedian, co-host of the massively popular Triggernometry Podcast and author of An Immigrant's Love Letter to the West. In his recent talk in Sydney for the Centre for Independent Studies, he reflects on his first time in Australia and asks what makes Western countries like Australia so successful.
How did the West come to dominate the world?
What does government by consent mean? Why is freedom of expression good? Do we take private property for granted?
Konstantin warns that we need to better understand the ideas that make our countries great, lest we risk becoming cargo cults - simply going through the motions of what made us successful.

The BBC is supposed to be impartial or give a balanced argument. Konstantin is brought in to stand against the weaponized empathy of the woke and the panel of bobble heads supporting them, on almost any topic. Reason and logic tend to make for great clips, and he is very good at reminding people they don't have a monopoly on truth and virtue.

Pure logic, I love Konstantin - my S/E Asian wife (mid 50's) squinted at him and asked: "Why does he look like that?" "Russian Jew" "Oh" then sauntered off - I thought I might need to flesh it out a little, but apparently not; that was sufficient to understand why I'm blonde-haired & steel eyed yet he speaking alarmingly like me looks so differing. Bravo dear wife, a simplistic view of racial traits wins out. If anyone hasn't visited Triggernometry, it's about time you did; funny f*cksters Konstantin & Francis do genuine diligence with great guests. Bravo KK!!

There are four people I love listening to: Konstantin Kisin, Douglas Murray, Ben Shapiro and Venkat Ramaswamy. Their diction, their vocabulary, their eloquence - all without any notes or teleprompter - is a pleasure to behold. So glad to live in an age where we can watch their videos on YT. Do I agree with them 100%? No. No one is perfect. But I agree with them 95% of the time because they make sense. How refreshing compared to other hacks who throw around words like "genocide", "generational trauma", "racism", "equity", "hate speech", etc. with not a single logical thought supporting those academic-sounding phrases.

He's mistaken about freedom from religion being a source of Western greatness. He'd be right if he was talking about Islam, which has stranded it's adherents in the Dark Ages, or Buddhism or Hinduism, which left people treading water without a higher goal. But all the Western values he lauds came directly from Christianity. Don't lie, don't steal, don't murder, restrain yourself sexually--the safety, freedom, and personal property rights are a practical manifestation of "Love your neighbor as yourself." The work ethic, low levels of corruption, and belief that the world should make sense in a scientifically testable way come directly from "Love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength." And, the decline in all of those values is exactly following the abandonment of Christianity by the West.

Curious that KK mentioned property and ownership being protected from theft was an aspect which fueled innovation, because in the UK and USA both governments authorities actively no longer ask our police prevent theft and catch criminals, restore stolen items unless you are personally one of the super rich. Have your 7 11 full of shoplifting gangs the police ignore what's going on, the shop closes down. Be a celebrity who have a watch worth a grand stolen from your wrist and you have gangs of plain clothes police seeking to entrap the thieves into stealing a bling watch.

Go to the border and greet them with your protest signs that say "Stop! You are making the biggest mistake of your lives! Go back home where you are safer! Please! I beg of you! You don't know what you are doing!" WHY???????

Western culture works to respect free markets, civil liberties and innovation. Class structures, based in part by merit, and not simply birthright are demonstrably better. This has attracted the most industrious from all over the world and that is why there are lines to get into the club. Yes, corruption, grift, and outright savagery have permeated every single human collection since the first hominid stood up, however, these attributes appear much more comfortable bedfellows of oppression and dogma more prevalent outside the West.

This business about "victim" thinking is so odd. It sounds like one of those "think positive" mantras that are the staple of training in sales techniques. The actual classics of the West, like Plato or the Bible, always hold the victim of injustice as the moral superior of the perpetrator of injustice. In Gorgias, Socrates says being the perpetrator is far worse than being the victim, even though the victim suffers more pain -- because the perpetrator exceeds everyone in evil. The Book of Job agrees. Toni Morrison always said she was taught at an early age that she was the moral superior of anyone who discriminated against her. She never flinched. Her father taught her that. If you worry about not being a "victim," you're still thinking about it.

I love Konstantin. He is right we are better. We have opportunities and freedoms many dont have. So what is the west doing we are capitulating to the barbarians. Many are converting to islam. Which i think proves the west needs religion. I fear for my granddaughters future. I libed through the 70s it was tough but we had hope i dont sense that today. We need brave people like konstantin there has to be a way out of this madness.

There is one reason and one reason only for anyone at any level to immigrate to another Country. That reason is Opportunity. Different people, at different levels, seek different forms of Opportunity. Those who seek LEGAL immigration tend to be seeking the Opportunity to build a better life for themselves and their families. Yes, they COULD build that better life right there in the Nation they were born in. But that tends to involve a lot of risk. It's easier, and safer to just pack up and move than it is to buck the current system. Those who seek ILLEGAL immigration are also seeking opportunity. But the Opportunity they seek is to attain the one thing that no amount of work, or risk, would ever get for them in the Nation they were born. That is a Free Ride. Welfare. A higher standard of living for little or even no effort.

He is talking about the past. Western civilization long ago stopped allowing people to express themselves freely and guaranteeing private property. Western civilization is about to enter the dustbin of history, along with the Roman Empire.

Why, after having arrived illegally, most of those people almost immediately after getting financial support, and sometimes even deciding to work in order to get some more money, they almost immediately start working their butts off to create the same hell they were getting the hell out from?

Erm, British colonies were significantly less authoritarian and in fact included locals into power structures. Might do you some good to look up e.g., the British Raj in India. Plus, do compare the relative state of societies and economies of former British colonies and the Spanish ones - that should tell you all there is to know about who did what, and what its effect was.

If even 25% of students on American colleges : universities have the patience and IQ to understand what Konstantin tried to explain here, there will be less wokeism and more productive work that helps make the world better.

I'm a bit confused here. In the first 2 and a half minutes I've lost count of how many time he has spoken of some variant of the word LIBERAL as supporting CONSERVATIVE policies. I know that the terms LIBERAL and CONSERVATIVE have changed quite a bit in their policies over the last few hundred years. But listening to this leadup I find myself wondering which Century, or even Millennium he is speaking from.
