    I assume they took inspiration from Christian beliefs that knowing a demons name gives you power over said demon.

    Well that has more with Jewish mythology and Kabbalah from which Christianity took aspects through synchronism. The notion of true names existed in Egyptian and Hellenistic cultures where the supernatural and a secret sacred language are connected

    @@themonolougistYeah well said besides these beliefs in Christian and Jewish religion definitely wasn't common it's just something that certain writers saw in other cultures and religions and fitted that into theirs

    Not a Christian belief. Demons are exercised without knowing names. Nor are demons put to work. Read source material not pop culture.

    The idea of a mortal sorcerer binding and controlling a Daedric Prince sounds incredible. Would make for an amazing story in game for TES VI, though maybe as a DLC story so it doesn't get too close to feeling like an Oblivion clone

    I would think that not only do you have to have their nymic, but you would have to have the knowledge of how to bond them as Daedric Princes are in a whole other level of complexity and power. I would think that it also takes raw power, willpower, and focus. Probably hard to do while a Daedric Prince is trying to obliterate you. Interesting none the less.

    Interesting. Now I am wondering about Shaegorath - Jyggalag situation. It was probably a nymic shenanigan then. Would like to see Shaegorath's "source code", it is probably something absurd.

    A backwards laugh, multiplied by dad jokes, add crazy genius, subtract reasonable bedtime and then divide the whole thing by the squareroot of cheese, that will give you the first syllabel. Though you have to say it with a mouth full of cheese water while doing a handstand to pronounce it correctly.

    So if some powerful mages can change a Daedric Nymic and some Nymics can be rebounded to the mortal realm, I wonder if any mage has tried to turn multiple Daedra into being bound to Nirn/Mundus? Either to create a personal regenerating army, or to create a society of Daedra free from the control of any Daedric princes. Either/both could be intriguing storylines.

    For the comment section too; mortals also have nymics that govern their nature too, like their race and such. It’s theorized by fans (somewhat non-canon) that mortals can change aspects about themselves by changing their nymics (for example: people believe Mankar Camoran changed his own nymic to become Dragonborn and a high elf.) Edit: also goes without saying that I love this channel! Your videos rock! Keep them coming and happy new year!

    I'm a big fan of this theory. I'd like to believe that the lesser Daedra are so curious about fleshy, weak seeming little mortals because they could rock up like: "Hey, I'm Julius Portanius, father to Brenda Portanius, husband to Igrund Portanius, An Imperial Battle Mage of the 7th Legion for the Tamrielic Empire, and I think raising chickens is a very rewarding experience; they call me the chicken guy sometimes," and it gives the Daedra nothing to work with to get power over that person directly, even though this mortal appeared to have revealed every conceivable aspect of his nymic. It would seem like a powerful magic to them that they're completely free of that instant-binding influence and make them really wonder what the heck this mortal is capable of.

    @@YourWaywardDestinyyea I like it too. I thinks funny how many people change or edit their characters in Skyrim or ESO for example, and just having an in-universe excuse for changing your race is awesome. But like it’s still so mythical that no one regularly does it.

    @derskalde4973Ай бұрын

    Was watching this again and just had this thought: To my (admitedly _very_ limited) understanding, it seems that daedra are basically Video Game characters! Their nymic is their personal source code, that automatically updates with experience. It holds all the information on them, from the obvious, like appearance, height, maybe gender, down to the tiniest thing, like their favourite dish or that they like or dislike cats. This code can be changed, though I guess it'd take either quite some time or very drastic circumstances to be enough to change the code in a big way. But it has to be able to change, or otherwise daedra couldn't learn! They'd be static, like a NPC or a character in a time loop! They'd have to behave in fixed behaviour patterns, resetting every so often, like, after 24 hours or if they die. In either case, they'd be reset to factory condition, loosing every experience they had, making it easy to trick them. But since, from what I understand of the Lore, this isn't the case, the code will be in constant change, albeit in small, neglectable ways. Like, say, you experience a new food for the first time. This will now take root in the code, reflecting how much you liked or disliked it. You experience rain for the first time in your live? Into the source code it goes. You fought and killed someone? Now part of the source code. So, summoning a daedra is basically akin to reading someones entire biography aloud to get a call with them. But just as the biography doesn't tell you every single meal they had from the day of their birth, the "big code" needed to summon them holds the most important stuff of what makes them who they are, while the "small code" holds _everything._ BUT, that means, again, that the "big code" can also change with updates. That guy you were close to betrayed you? Depending on who they are, that could change enough, that your "big code", the biography, has to update, changing the nymic. I hope this rambling is at least somewhat understandable. Maybe I'm totally off the rocker, but that is my current understanding of the topic.

  • @JXEditor
    @JXEditor6 ай бұрын

    If a summoning spell requires the nymic, and the nymic is essentially the assembly code for the Daedra, do we have a Star Trek transporter situation where you aren’t actually teleporting them to you but rather destroying them in Oblivion, while SIMULTANEOUSLY reassembling them in Mundas???

    What if like what Dagon did to Arox and changed his Nymic what if thats what happened to Trynimac when Boethia turned him into Malacheth. Both are Etada so Aedra may have Nymics as well. Boethia gives Trynimac a Nymic that changed him to Malacheth turning him from a powerful champion into a wretched outcast. Where Trynimac now Malacheth uses his new Nymic to carve his realm of Oblivion into exsistance.
