It's pretty simple! Fiona's parents were wiped from existence and the only reason Fiona still existed was because Shrek's clause meant until his day was over she had to exist. But with her parents signing over Far Far Away the Fairy Godmother and Charming had no purpose to save Fiona. It isn't clear what Fiona knew and whether all her vengeance against Stiltskin was just from being part of the Ogre cause or she also knew he was responsible for wiping out her parents.

I have my own theory: Whether you knew it or not, in Shrek 2, Prince Charming actually served as the narrator for the opening scene when he attempts to rescue Fiona. And I was thinking, what if Prince Charming thought the rescue was too easy for him(since he’s vain and all) because he actually spent so much time(talking about years) practicing the rescue that he was too late during the real rescue, perfecting every single little thing? The narration, the horse riding, the way he enters the Dragon’s Keep, and how he decides to greet Fiona once he rescues her. He wanted no flaws in the final take. Think about that!

It honestly wouldn't surprise me if Charming (and perhaps, by extension, his mother the Fairy Godmother) were in no rush because they felt their plans were perfect and nobody else would be able to rescue Fiona even if they tried. It also wouldn't surprise me if they held off as long as they could to ensure Fiona would be so alone and desperate that she'd be even more taken by Charming than she would otherwise; "after all this time, my prince has finally come!".

I think it's also important to note that part of the reason Shrek was able to save Fiona, was because he had Donkey with him. All the other knights went alone, it not hard to see why, if they ALL wanted to marry Fiona, they wouldn't team up as you couldn't exactly share 'the prize'. Donkey was able to keep Dragon busy, while Shrek found Fiona, and started evacuating her from the tower. He also used a non-conventional method as he didn't try to slay the dragon first, he didn't care about being a hero, he just wanted to get Fiona, and get out

Honestly. If Shrek wouldn't have rescued Fiona, charming would have died and failed to the dragon anyway. All his training was for nothing and fairy godmother created a challenge not even her trained son could defeat. According to Fiona's words in the last movie, no one ever came to rescue her and she got tired of waiting so she rescued herself. Meaning that charming never got to rescue Fiona from the tower. And since she's not with her parents. It seems she decided not to return to far far away. Probably realizing the whole scheme of putting her in a tower was crazy and cruel.

It was because in the forth movie, Fiona's parents sign the kingdom over to Rumplestiltskin, and it's revealed in the game version of Shrek 4 that Fairy Godmother is Rumplestiltskin's Queen (for a week but it was a start), so there would be no reason for Charming to want to rescue Fiona because he and Mommy were only after the crown.

Another point is that Charming could have rescued her if His Mom could give him a Love Potion or she has already put the dragon there herself (like as in she created it out of magic). After that she could have put a spell on the dragon allowing only Prince Charming to rescue Princess Fiona. She's really cunning, don't get me wrong. After all she wanted her son to be a King, right?? What if Prince Charming didn't have to train because of this reason?! He could be dating other princesses if his mother actually did this as well!! Thus making Fiona wait for Years to come until he arrives and breaks the curse. Idk, it's just what the other guy said. 😉

I think she put a spell on the castle so only Fiona’s true love could rescue her. She fully expected that the only candidate for that was her son. She never counted on the fact that anyone could hold the princesses heart. Otherwise, why would he have been so surprised that she was gone when he got there.

Because she was never meant to be his in the first place . It was fated that he procrastinated cause he never truly loved her, otherwise he would have rescued her ages ago. her true loves first kiss is meant to change her into loves true form. at the end of the movie when she kisses shrek she doesn’t go back to being human. wich means charming was never supposed to rescue her , instead it was always meant to be shrek cause being an ogre is who she was meant to be.

I never realized: Fiona was technically saved by her true love. Farquaad sent Shrek and Donkey, but it was them that got her out of the tower. So she was rescued by the person she ended up marrying, she just didn't realize it at the time.

Honestly, I'm surprised Charming didn't realize something was up when there was no dragon guarding the princess. Also, I'm afraid that Fairy Godmother had no clue about Shrek and Fiona. Her reaction upon meeting him and her surprise that Fiona was in her ogre form betray this. She literally asks "when did this happen?" when Shrek is introduced as her husband. So I think it wasn't so much that Charming was forced into action, but rather that he began the quest on time, Shrek simply beat him to Fiona. They immediately went on their honeymoon, so I doubt anyone would make the trek all the way to Far Far Away (since it's, you know, Far... FAR... away) just to spread news about it. The only people who likely knew about their relationship were living in the areas around Duloc. We also have to remember that Farquaad had a zero tolerance policy for any magical creatures, which would've included Fairy Godmother and her subordinates. Using a human spy in that land would've been too impractical for her. But I think you hit the nail on the head with her plot: The invitation to Far Far Away is addressed to Fiona and her "Prince Charming", which was interpreted as an adjective describing her husband, but it was meant as the literal name of her husband (but of course, only FGM and the King would know this). It explains that nobody from Far Far Away knew that FIona and Shrek were married. It would also explain why the invitation arrived when it did: It was meant to arrive immediately after Charming rescued Fiona, but because they were on their honeymoon, they delayed long enough for the invation's arrival to line up perfectly. Remember, EVERYBODY was shocked by Shrek's appearance, including Harold. So nobody expected him. I think Fairy Godmother simply assumed that the Dragon would be enough to eliminate all competition while Charming prepared for the quest. Remember that Shrek did things in a very unorthodox way. Fairy Godmother would've never anticipated that someone completely uninterested in Fiona would ever attempt such a dangerous undertaking. And she had absolutely no way to anticipate Donkey's interaction with Dragon. Like you said, everyone who attempted to rescue Fiona tried to fight the Dragon first, either to prove their valor or courage or something. They all died because of this. Shrek and Donkey did NOT do this. Shrek headed straight for Fiona because securing her was his objective, the Dragon was simply an obstacle, he wasn't interested in impressing her. Donkey flirted with Dragon instead of fighting her, and it's clear that she was pretty lonely in that castle, what with Fiona being locked in the Tower and every knight who entered trying to kill her. A little flattery would go pretty far in that case. Farquaad was the proverbial fly in the ointment. Fairy Godmother didn't expect a complete craven to hire an Ogre completely uninterested in the princess. She assumed everyone who would dare attempt to rescue Fiona would be a young man trying to hero his way into her heart. And for the most part, she was absolutely correct.

I feel like the dragon used to be a donkey and was turned into a dragon to guard Fiona by the fairy godmother. It would explain why the dragon fell in love with Donkey, they were both the same species at one time. The Fairy Godmother had no intention on turning the dragon back into her original form, which is why she never does.

I like your theory

Donkey is so important to Shrek's success when you think about it.The reason the other knights failed (Barring Charming if he'd made it on time) where Shrek succeeded is because while they all likely traveled alone, Shrek and Donkey went as a team, allowing for Donkey to focus on the dragon while Shrek focused on the princess rather than Shrek being forced to balance the two. That way, when the final steps of the escape from the tower came, they were far enough down the tower that they could plan and execute a feasible escape from the dragon. Not to mention, thanks to Donkey's personality and style of humor, he approached the dragon in a way likely no other knight would have ever tried because they were too focused on the dragon as only a force to be defeated. Because he focused on her in a nonviolent way that focused on flattering her, he was able to distract her.

I want to take it a step further and say that fairy godmother planned on the dragon not being in the way of charming. Notice how he calmly struts through the castle not even considering a dragon to be waiting for him. She wanted the dragon to be there to kill every other hero but him. The reason I say this is because Charming is incompetent and has not demonstrated the capacity that would suggest his success. Fairy godmother wouldn’t let her sons victory be determined on a whim. It’s too out of character with how much planning she’s done

This movie is literally a meme and yet has in depth lore and branching timelines. Lowkey it’s kind of awesome that the Rumplestiltskin timeline heavily implies that if charming were to face the dragon it would’ve killed him.

@@juanrisa945 but even then, Charming was seemingly rushing to rescue Fiona, while Shrek did a bunch of chill trips overall, and they arrived just fine, Charming must’ve been entertained by something else altogether, like he did a stop that was initially meant to be brief, but he ended up dismissing his one duty for far too long until he remembered he had stuff to do, or his mother angrily reminded him he’s gotta do his part so they can rule over Far Far Away

I'm pretty sure the years of buildup to Charming's rescue of Fiona was planned to maximize the drama of the rescue. If Charming went to save Fiona literally the day she was first locked in the tower, it would have been so anticlimactic. If someone "saved" you from a tower after you had been locked in their for and afternoon when you were 8 years old, would you have felt obligated to marry that guy? Hell no! Instead, Fairy Godmother planted the seed in Fiona's mind by having her parents tell her about this grandiose plan to have her rescued by a handsome prince. She then let that seed grow, nourished by the despair and loneliness of living in the tower for 10-15 years. By the time Charming "rescued" her, she would have been so desperate for human interaction and obsessed with this fairy tale story that she would cling to Charming long enough to marry him and secure his right to the thrown.

As someone who loves the musical as much as the movie--I also wonder if it was being held off partly because being locked in a tower for so long is like... detrimental to one's mental health. They really dove into Fiona's isolated, socially-deprived, lonely state in the musical. And so if she was left there (over 20 years per musical) and obsessed with "whoever rescues me IS my true love" and conditioned that way... man, it wouldn't be hard for Charming to be "the one" even if they were ultimately very different people. Like, desperation plus all that?? Dark as it is, I have to wonder if the waiting for years and years was something that they were going to use to their advantage.

Now I'm wondering what was dragon doing before she was placed at the tower to watch over the princess.

i was obsessed with her life before she was placed in the tower. is it a community of dragons that just wait for assignment? is everyone’s dream to be a dragon in a tower? did she want to be a dragon in a tower? did she have a family? friends? was her whole life uprooted to guard a tower? what’s going on there? why was she there? why was she so passionate about keeping folks way from Fiona?

I was going to joke she was on Tinder. But after seeing Parker’s comment, now I’m wondering... everyone is born believing in their roles. So the Dragon would have believed in hers. They have that “ stereotype”: that girls at Club/Bar will have that one tough girl who tells all the guys to get lost. Her role was to tell all these jerks that Feona was already engaged and to back off. But Donky wasn’t interested in Feona and started flirting with the dragon. So Charming never even question not seeing the dragon because she was suppose to let him in.

There's a theory that say the dragon could be another princess who was cursed by fairy godmother and her curse never got lifted so she never got her happy ending and all according to the fairy godmother's plan to have her there guarding the tower. It's just a theory but I think is a very interesting one.

I always figured Dragon was choosen because she's obviously... Lonely and since Charming is all handsome he'd be able to charm his way past

But even in the other universe (where Shrek is never born), Charming still doesn’t get there in time. I think that means Charming just had bad timing.

I read in the comments but in the universe where shrek was never born, the kingdom got to rumplestiltsikins hands..as we see the king was about to hand over the kingdom to him when words about fionas freedom travelled...so charming was probably on the way, rumplestiltskin got the kingdom and fiona is no longer princess

I always thought that Prince Charming was someone the fairy godmother created using potions and experiments. Maybe all those dead bodies are previous ones that failed, and so she kept trying to perfect him until he was able to do the job right and maybe that’s why he was so late.

What if prince Charming was the prince in a failed fairytale (a fairytale with an unhappy ending) and he was saved by fairy godmother, so no one would find out about the failed fairytale. (That explains why prince Charming was to late when he was saving Fiona from the dragons keep. He came out of another fairytale.) She took the prince under her wing and promised him she would help him get his happy ending. In return he had to keep his mouth shut about the failed fairytale so her business wouldn't fall apart. Fiona's mother told Fiona that one day her "prince Charming" would come and save her. But she didn't mean prince Charming as by name. She ment a charming prince, any prince. But fairy godmother named the failed prince Charming to fit fiona's expectations.

Sometimes I think about how Fiona could have possibly survived in that tower, food wise, I mean you don’t really picture a kitchen being in that tower or some kind of supply line into the castle. Also I can assume that Fiona didn’t spend ALL her time in that one room, and I also think that Dragon had some kind of pact where she wasn’t allowed to harm Fiona, otherwise Dragon would have definitely killed her by then. So considering all the knights that came to rescue her and failed as they were burned alive by Dragon. Is it possible that Fiona might have actually eaten what was left of them? Because first of all, I can tell that there was still flesh on the bones of the knights after they died, if Dragon had melted of all the flesh off in one breath, the bones would have been stained black, and Dragon obviously didn’t eat them as the skeletons would have been in a great big pile in a singular location considering the eating habits of animals similar to Dragon, so she most likely would go hunting for things such as livestock when she wasn’t busy burning people alive. Secondly, because Fiona turned into an ogre at night and because humans are a regular food source for ogres (implied by Shrek “they’ll make a soup out of your freshly peeled skin”) it is quite possible that when Fiona turned into an ogre at night she went out and ate the remains of the knights who tried to save her maybe even when she was human.

Here’s some thing I noticed when prince charming came to save Fiona in the castle there was supposed to be a dragon guarding it but the dragon wasn’t there because it fell in love with donkey but prince charming didn’t seem too surprised about the fact that there was no dragon trying to kill him so what if fairy godmother made the dragon and specifically told it to attack all intruders except prince charming to make sure that things went in their favor and didn’t expect the dragon to fall in love with one of the intruders

This was essentially what I had assumed, too: that he was just too young at first and got carried away trying to perfect himself. Actually, I think he might have been more eager to go sooner, but his mother likely looked at how much confidence he had (but how incompetent he actually was) and told him "you're not ready yet," because she genuinely didn't want him getting killed by the dragon, not just because she loved him (he _is_ mummy's special little boy) but also because it would ruin everything they had planned for. She needed him to be ready before letting him go.

Well yeah it is clear that Fairly Godmother was the one who put the curse on her. She made it pretty clear. The King was a frog who fell in love with a woman who was a Princess. And he made a deal with Fairly Godmother so he can have his Happily Every After. The deal was that one of his kids will marry one of her kid. She would have a son by magic maybe and he would have a daughter. And it was all arranged before she was born. I'm not actually sure if he was originally a frog he could have been a commoner and fell in love with his future wife but couldn't compete with the other Princes. And for the Faily Godmother most likely at sometime got tired of giving people thier Happily Ever After that she wanted to have her own Happily Ever After. Maybe she fell in love with a Prince and gave him everything and when the time came for him to marry her he changed his mind and married someone else. Fairly Godmother must have been pregnant with her ex lovers son. So her son might be a real Prince or she made him a real Prince. This is just my assumption on this matter because Fairly Godmother seems a bit bitter to me and had this sense about her like she new what it was like to be promised something and then someone breaking that promise. Like she had rules about her Happily ever after and the having severe punishments for not complying with the rules and time limits. I feel like she must have been cheated out of her Happily Ever After by a Prince and broke her heart and she couldn't do anything about it. Like if her Prince became a King he could just cats her out and deem her evil and ruin her. If she put a curse on him and his family no matter how powerful she was at that time she didn't have the reputation or money to back her up. Maybe she wanted her son to be King to get revenge on the guy who betrayed her. But this is me filling in the holes and making things up as I go.

i just figured he was super lazy and didn't think anyone would save fiona. still this was an interesting answer that lord farquad heard of fiona and sent an ogre to save her. just before charming set off charming lived in far far away so yeah shrek had the home advantage living close by and all. great video can you do fairy godmother's backstory or ask why didn't fairy godmother just marry her son to another princess? i mean according to shrek logic none of the other princesses were married surely they had kingdoms to go back too. i guess far far away was the biggest kingdom

Luna Moonstone I guess maybe because of the deal King Harold made with the Fairy Godmother? He was originally a frog and turned into a human by Fairy Godmother for his “Happily Ever After” maybe Fairy Godmother turned this deal into a bargain because she probably doesn’t do it for free. Since Harold fell in love with a princess ➡️ he would then become King If Harold promises his daughter to Fairy Godmother’s son ➡️ then she would grant his wish to become human Since the entire “Shrek 2” has King Harold & Fairy Godmother collaborating to kill Shrek. That’s all I can think to why Prince Charming was promised to Fiona and Fairy Godmother so adamant about Fiona 🤔

Well the magic mirror did reveal three eligible bachelorettes, and given how Cinderella and Snow White already had their stories from Disney, it made sense he would choose bachelorette #3: Princess Fiona. Since Shrek managed to defeat Lord Farquad's men he felt that sending an ogre to save the princess was beneficial since if Shrek was killed then he wouldn't have lost any of his knights and if he succeeded then he would have his princess. Chances are fairy godmother wanted her son to marry into the kingdom of Far, Far Away since not only was it in her backyard but also was payment for helping King Harold with his happily ever after.

"Saved by my true love" is the phrase. it is most likely the grounds she was kept on were enchanted so that only her true love could rescue her. (note to all up and coming evil villans phrasing is key for long term spells.) At the time of her imprisonment she was pretty much brainwashed into thinking a Prince Charming would be the one because I seriously doubt that one would name their child "Prince" Charming Fortuna. He was probably named such to use a loophole in the enchantment Fiona believed that her true love was a Prince Charming spoiler alert due to the shrek forever after movie that more than likely didnt work and the enchantment was not rigged to keep her from walking out herself.

As you said, the Fairy Godmother had orchestrated Fiona's imprisonment. However, her plan was devised to be more effective against human adversaries rather than an ogre and a talking donkey. Due to his training, he was too far away to respond at a moment's notice hence the reaction we see in the movie. He was actually planning to arrive later than his scene in the movie. So, by technicality, he was early and not late to save Fiona. He just got bested for acquiring her hand in marriage. Plus, her true love accepted her for who she is rather than what she was supposed to be.

A thought popped into my mind when he mentioned Fairy Godmother cursing Fiona and how Lord Farquad was the first to send someone _else_ to rescue her; What if Fairy Godmother not only cursed Fiona to become an ogre, but she also cursed Fiona so that nobody who _wanted to rescue her_ could? (Although you could argue that Fairy Godmother could have used magic on the dragon for the same effect) As Isaac mentioned, everyone who tried to save her wanted to have her hand in marriage (or so we assume, because why else would they risk their lives to save her?), and they all inevitably died. Fairy Godmother would have known that people would only try to save her if they wanted to marry her and become her "true love", so wouldn't it make sense for her to ensure that none of these people saved Fiona? The castle itself would have been a nightmare, but what if she added a second curse as a _safety measure_ ? Now let's talk about Farquad. Sure, he _did_ want Fiona's hand in marriage, but he didn't go _himself_ , did he? He sent Shrek. And Shrek made it clear upon saving her that he did not care at all about Fiona (let alone want to marry her). Could this be why Shrek has been the only person to have made it out of the castle alive? _With_ Fiona? It's not much of a theory, but I thought it was a cool idea :))

I've always thought it was weird that Charming didn't seem to wonder where the dragon was when he finally got there. Wasn't slaying the dragon one of the most important parts of his quest?

I think that, basically, Farquad act before Charming. Like, Prince wanted to save Fiona one day, but (whataretheodds), the son of one of the seven dwarf (btw canon) just happend to find out about Fiona one week before he would reach the Dragoness' castle.

The fairy godmother was not worried about another knight rescuing Fiona because she had already put a spell on the castle where no other MAN but charming would be able to rescue Fiona and live. This is why they were in no rush to get to the castle. She just had not considered to include "ogre" in the spell...

Without donkey romaticizing the dragon he would be dead too.By taking someone in and being soft and developing a friendship he actually was able to save and love fiona. The dragon was just protecting herself not fiona and by donkey seeing something beautiful in her,he was the first one showing her some tenderness. Thanks for listening to my TEDtalk.

I think there was some kind of a curse or a spellbinding that would prevent the dragon from harming Prince Charming when he entered the castle, however, when Shrek rescued Fiona and effectively broke the curse, the dragon was free from its binding meaning it could very easily scorch Charming or eat him (which it did in the third movie) because the spell was meant to ensure the dragon didn't attack the prince in the castle, but outside the castle, it was open season.

My semi theory is this: the dragon was specifically created using a bit of magic, to not let anyone rescue Fiona, except Prince Charming. What do you think?

To back this theory up, Shrek was able to rescue Fiona and get fast the dragon because Donkey was distracting the dragon and since Donkey didn't have any intention to rescue Fiona, well he did wanted to help, but his first prioritie was to befriend Shrek, he couldn't have been a possible candidate for rescuing her.

Adding onto this: "why didn't Charming rescue her in the 4th movie then if Shrek was now out of the way?" Simple: The King and Queen are dead, Rumplestiltskin (can't spell his name) is now the King. Charming was only after the crown, during the second movie he complained about how Shrek stole "his" throne from him. Now that Fiona's family is dead Fiona has no right to the throne, she is no longer a princess meaning that Charming marrying her would provide no benefits to him. As soon as Fairy Godmother found out the royal family was dead she called off the mission to save Fiona meaning that no one would come save her anymore, resulting in a jaded and angry Fiona who decided to save herself instead of waiting for someone that would never come.

Fairy godmother probably cast a spell so that no human could successfully save Fiona other than Charming, and as we all know, Shrek isn't human. Fairy godmother wouldn't have accounted for that. And in the 4th movie, Fiona is able to rescue herself because she is not a full human. She's magically part ogre and her father's true form is a frog lol, so....yeah

I think it also falls under how Charming loves the theatrics and aesthetics of things. He would clearly brag or use the whole “I went through scorching deserts and blistering winds for you!” In a argument to win and gaslight people. Also because Shrek is clearly smarter then him in case, he clearly chose the faster route to Fiona, while charming didn’t. Also I think that Farquaad just happen to be closer to where Fiona was put in.

My theory is far more simple: Shrek was always the one meant to rescue her. He was her true love and he was able to get to her not only due to this but because he was a skeptic. He didn't even believe the dragon existed until he arrived at the castle itself.

Makes sense. Bc i remember that when charming asked the wolf where fiona was. The wolf said that she was on her honeymoon. Which implies that Charming was only a week or two behind shrek.... But like dang, dreamworks be thinking of everything lol

I think another contributing factor was that Charming's mother had drilled into him that he had to not only be presentable but also dramatic, which is probably why he opted to do it the long way. In Charming's mind, I think, he figured he would get there at almost the same time as the competition and have a dramatic fight with what he thought would be the competition in addition to slaying the dragon, a dragon that was literally chained to the castles Fiona was being held in. Another contributing factor would be the fact that Donkey basically distracted the dragon by being romantic with her, and had offspring with her in a later installment in the series. Fairy Godmother was definitely a conniving, controlling narcissist, but she probably figured nobody would really pay attention to the gender of the dragon and just do what all heroes are expected to do in most classic fairy tales, slay the dragon, but that's not what happened. Shrek opted to sneak around the dragon, and when the dragon caught sight of Donkey, he used Donkey as a distraction to advance because the two were just doing the whole being romantically in love with each other at first sight, which was likely an act by Donkey at first but later turned into true passionate affection for Dragon. Now, as to why Fairy Godmother opted to make the dragon female, I have a few thoughts on the matter. Males of most species, especially dragons and reptiles in general, tend to be highly aggressive. Fairy Godmother wanted a dragon she could keep some measure of control over so Charming could come in and deal the deathblow and look like the hero he was groomed to be, a male dragon would far too difficult to accomplish that goal. While many female dragons tend to be noticeably larger than the males, they also tend to usually be more docile before having a clutch, at which point their aggression makes the male's aggression look like a toddler throwing a tantrum in a padded room with foam toys. And chances are Fairy Godmother knew this, she chose a female dragon that had yet to find a mate, and of a breed that was known to have females far more docile than the males, and basically made the dragon think the castle was its lair. Dragons, regardless of their gender, are still fiercely territorial, which solved the problem of everyone before Charming getting scorched and smashed by a dragon. Then, as part of his training, Fairy Godmother instructed Charming on the exact way to defeat that particular kind of dragon so that his win over the dragon would be assured. Dragon mothers are a natural force you do not want to be on the bad side of, and Dragon had a few little Dragon/Donkey hybrids, which means everyone Dragon doesn't trust to be around her babies gets a level of aggression that would likely shake the heavens and make the most dangerous of demons and devils fear her and her territory so much they opt to take the long way despite being in a rush.

I've always thought that Charming was late because, maybe, he was waiting for fiona to become an adult. He always seemed older, maybe it doesn't bother him to marry someone who loves him because of some love potion his mother has concocted, but the fact that she could be a minor bothered him. Shrek was just lucky enough to be in the right place at the right moment. Btw, how come nobody ever noticed that Charming would have NEVER gotten to Fiona's tower if dragon was still living there? (i mean in the third movie, dragon ate him alive, the same thing would have happened).

I doubt it. Back in the medieval era people didn't live as long. When they grew old they lived into their 30's or 40's. When women died in childbirth they were usually between 15 and 20, more or less. I think the age of consent back then was younger than now. It seems unlikely that Charming would fret too much over their age gap.

No dragon didn't eat Charming she simply pushed the fake tower with her tail thus causing it to fall on him leading to his death. Dragon ate lord farquad.

Can we also talk about how even if he did rescue her the time of day he arrived would have meant she was already an ogre. I honestly feel like he wouldnt be interested because of her being an ogre. Orrrr maybe he wants to reign and doesn’t care but idk🤷🏻‍♀️

So in Shrek 4 we see Rumpl reminisce about how the king and queen almost signed over Far Far Away but didn't because they got news just in time that Shrek had saved Fiona. I've never understood why the king would do this when he knew fairy godmother was planning to send Charming. Makes even less sense if he knew Charming had already set out save her.

the king knew but the queen did not, so maybe he was just going with it because he cared more about being with the queen than about the kingdom, and telling her about charming and how he is due to have Fiona would have meant telling her about him being a frog and he was scared to do that

He might have assumed that Charming died or gave up. Judge by the fact that he only made it to the chamber because the dragon was off making little dragon/donkeys I'm guessing the former.

Lillian didn’t give a damn about what the Godmother said, Charming was taking way too long, she probably was the one who put Fiona’s announcement in the mirror, and after that failed, she must’ve forcefully convinced Harold to ask some other powerful person for help, she just wanted her daughter back at all cost, and she didn’t trust the Godmother all that much

Because of the Rumpelstiltskin time line, I think Prince Charming had a time he was supposed to come and the Dragon would be gone. He isn't the greatest warrior, he's actually pretty bad fighting in the movie. The curse itself is from the fact that The king is actually a frog that got a wish granted by the Fairy God Mother to become the king. The return payment would be her son becoming king after by marrying his daughter. With the fact that if Shrek hadn't saved Fiona from the tower the kingdom gets traded to Rumpelstiltskin, shows that there was a set time the fairy God Mother had set, but the King and Queen didn't know about. The fairy God Mother not letting them know about this left her open to Rumpelstiltskin coning them all over, which he did for a hot minuet.

I always wondered why charming didn't come in time. He was probably too far from fiona's tower. Maybe He probably was on his way to her tower while the events of shrek happened. But since it was a long journey to get there, shrek already married fiona. Thank you for uploading this video, I always wondered why he didn't come if it was part of the fairy godmother's plan. Ok but why was Shrek the only survivor against the dragon ? Maybe the fairy god mother (who in this theory was the one that cast a spell on Fiona) also put a spell on the castle so that NO MAN could survive. Which might also be the reason for Charming taking his sweet time before going over there to rescue her (like he clearly wasn't in love with Fiona so maybe he was procrastinating to go lol). But plot twist for the fairy god mother's spell: Shrek and Donkey aren't human. So Fiona's true love ends up being Shrek since he's the one who rescues her. The spell ironically backfired against Charming and his mother. Thoughts?

This makes Prince Charming way more complex of a character than I thought

My question is, if Shrek's swamp is so far away for far far away, then how come the fair tail creatures were able to get there so fast to save Shrek and donkey from prison in the 2nd one.

Dragon flew them there. According to Shrek 2 director Andrew Adamson, Dragon was going to have a more significant role in the film, having turned into a Pegasus when Donkey drank the Happily Ever After potion.

DisneyTriviaBuff I kinda doubt that because if she really did fly them all there she would’ve stayed and helped out with getting to the castle. She also would’ve been turned into a Pegasus or whatever the potion turned her into at the time and had no idea what was going on. I would also imagine that she stayed behind with her babies until they were ready to fly.

With this video making a point on why he was late- what do you think changed in Shrek Forever After where shrek was never born and NO ONE ever saved Fiona? Ive always wondered about this- even with Charming scheduled to come and get here without Shrek interfering. Fiona makes the statement saying no one ever came for her. What happened?

Probably the fact that Fiona technically wasn't a princess anymore once Rumple took over in that alternate timeline meaning there wasn't much to gain from saving someone without a title. Most of those guys probably just wanted to marry her just to be King once that's gone seems like the most likely reasoning considering Charming never showed up

I can't believe someone would take time to explain this. I love it.

To be honest, I always just figured that they were certain nobody could get past the dragon. I also think that Charming was never meant to fight the dragon. I mean, he doesn't even look for Dragon when he gets to the castle, he just goes straight to the highest room of the tallest tower. In my opinion, once Charming was on the scene I'd bet that Fairy Godmother had arranged that Dragon would either be rendered not a threat, be removed from the equation entirely, or was bewitched/coerced to never want/be able to fight Charming. Now THAT'S insurance, a deadly and fearsome beast that attacks anyone that isn't the person you want to win.

you know looking back on it in the film when charming walks into the castle to save Fiona he has a casual walk like he isn’t expecting to face a deadly trial like the other knights who were burned alive by dragon, but at this point since he is unaware of Fiona being gone Charming shouldn’t know that Dragon is gone as well, so if he is entering the dragon’s keep to save Fiona why wasn’t he worried unless he knew that dragon was to prevent all men from passing except for him.

I always wanted to know why charming didn't have magic of his own, knowing that his mother did. Is it just a natural disposition in this universe for only women to have natural magic? I dont think merlin counts because he had to use spells and potions to accomplish the same thing whereas fairy godmother only had her wand and never visibly uttered any spells.

It is highly possible that only women have natural magic I mean there is a school for it shown in Shrek the Fourth and I don't recall many or any girls around. Not to mention the fact since it's a fairy tale world wizards and warlocks would be a rarity since I can't think of many fairy tales of them besides Merlin.

What if when Prince charming sprays his mouth before he enters her room its a love potion so its 100% guaranteed he'd become king idk just thinking 🤔

Well, here's my theory. Considering this franchise was also based on paroding Disney (thanks to Katzenberg) I think it's also follows typical stereotype tropes of fairytales. 1. Prince charming is on rescue mission save princess✅ 2. Prince has to go on a dangerous long quest✅ 3. Quest taking most 2-3 days✅ 4. Prince comes to rescue✅ 5. Prince and princess "fall in love at first sight"✅ 6. True love's kiss to break curse 7. And wedding✅ 8. On the ONE.SAME.DAY!✅ Typical trope of every fairytale that led to failure for prince Charming from beggining😒

I like how none of the potions in the Shrek universe has the ability to make people teleport,fly or just travel faster. Not to mention that the Fairy God Mother owns FLYING HORSES..

Good point, though when Shrek goes to get Donkey back we see a giant cauldron and cookbook, also I'm guessing there was a chamber pot that Fiona had been emptying by pouring it out the window.

Plus big thing that always bugged me. I know it shouldn't cos you know disney/cartoon logic. But seen as the king and queen didn't know exactly when Fiona would be rescued. They obvs knew it would be when she was older. But how could they have known exactly how old. So whats bugged me is the fact she had a dress on that fitted her exactly. The king and Queen had no way of knowing when she would be rescued. Let alone how old and what size dress she'd be when she was rescued. Just seems abit odd that there was already a dress with her that fitted her exactly. The fact she probs would have struggled for food could explain why she was skinny. But you know what I mean. How could they know the exact measurements she might be at that point for the dress to fit her. Unless they sent her with clothing for any measurements so at least one would fit her. But then again there is no inkling to suggest that happened. On the subject of food etc. Perhaps the fairy godmother had planned for that using magic to make food etc come to Fiona's room at a certain time every day?. She was trapped in that room so there was no way to get out. So there was no finding food etc any other way.

I also wouldn’t mind if you talked about some of DreamWorks’ other films. Like some of their more underrated films like “The Road to El Dorado”

I also wonder if Dragon is UNABLE to be slain from Fairy Godmothers magic. No other people survived with the dragon Shrek and Donkey didnt even slay it, but unpredictabily Donkey (unintentionally) whoo'd her. That would make sense as to why the Charmings would feel comfortable waiting knowing that the dragon cannot be killed by any other man other than charming, who no doubt in my mind he carried a weapon/sword with Fairy's magic being the only sword in the world to slay the dragon

Stumbled upon your channel, instantly subscribed when you said the Fairy Godmother is the one that cursed Fiona and put her in the castle I’ve been a firm believer of that and the Fairy Godmother’s reaction when confronting the Dad proves it to me

I took it that Prince Charming took a year to journey to save Fiona. He was intent on doing it the traditional way and build up his story of heroic rescue. It shows he rather look good than save Fiona asap. Her years of being locked away didn’t matter that she was alone and sad and lonely. He probably had to save her at a certain age. Which is when he could actually save her. It was never about rescuing her and helping her. It was just about looks appearances and using her as a means to an end. One she thought she had to play out as well.
