Why Can't I Print 11x14 Borderless on my CANON Printer? Here is Why!

There Borderless restrictions on EPSON as well as CANON Photo printers.
If it is NOT included in the regular Paper Sizes Dropdown Menu, you can not print borderless to it.
Why anyone would want to print borderless in the first place is beyond me but it is a feature that the public demanded since the days of One Hour Wet Processing Labs.
An EPSON Photo Printer can print to 11x14 borderless, but it will crop your image via Expansion.
A Canon Printer doesn't not even include 11x14 in it's standard paper size menu.
You have to create a custom paper size, and IF you have Borderless already checked, you would not be able to access the "Custom Paper Size" menu anyhow!
I tell you how to approach this if you indeed MUST have an edge to edge 11x14 or any other size not supported.

    Jose I just stumbled upon your site today-It was like discovering a gold mine! I just bought my first my first large print printer, a Canon IP8720, and as a complete novice know nothing about what I'm doing, and I've already learned more from this video than all of my trail and error the last few weeks. THANK YOU! I've subscribed to your site and hit the likes and all that. I plan on watching as many of your videos as I can.

    Hi Jose. I don't print borderless for the same reasons as you (I don't like the overspray) but there is an old trick you can use to actually print borderless 11x14 on Canon printers. At least, it works on my Pro-100; I didn't check the Pro-1000 yet as that's in another building but I suspect it'd work on all Canons. While 11x14 is not a standard size in the driver, 11x17 is and that size allows borderless printing. What you can do is choose 11x17 for the paper size, choose borderless, and then just be sure you don't print on the bottom 3 inches of the sheet. In Qimage, you can select 11x17 as the paper size for example, check borderless, and then add an 11x14 size print to the page in "Compact" placement mode (so the image is at the TOP of the page). Print, and you'll get a borderless 11x14.

    I'm using the Canon Pixma iP8720. I'm having one problem. The printer will not print EVEN borders on all sides. This is most noticeable on 4x6" prints. I've tried changing settings and cannot find anything that will give evenly sized borders. It appears that Canon defaults to having a narrower border on the RIGHT side of 4x6" horizontal imagaes. My image to be printed is sized to 4x6". Is there a setting that needs to be changed to fix this problem? Does this issue happen with higher priced Canon printers like the Pro 200? Thanks very much, hope you can help.

    Hi Jose, I hope that you are good. I bought the Canon Pro10s after watching your helpful channel. One question, please can you tell me if photos that have borders already (equal) so when printing do you set your printer to print borderless. For some odd reason whenever I print, the borders (left and right) are not equal, I’m printing A4 on A4 paper, sometimes there is the odd yellow band on the print preview that I don’t understand. Thanks for your help. Mike

    Left and right could mean two things if you are looking at the print horizontally or vertically. Printers feed paper in portrait mode. Margins in that orientation are equal left and right. The Top or Leading edge margin will be a bit narrower and the bottom or trailing edge will be wider. That is the default on ALL printers. Borderless printing requires that the image be cropped to the actual paper dimensions or aspect ratio and then you choose borderless and that will expand the image about 5% beyond the edges and further crop it to insure you do not end up with a white border somewhere.

    Hey Jose. I don't suppose instead of printing borderless, couldn't I spot glue a sheet of photo paper in the middle of a larger sheet of plain paper, and then print on it with the larger plain paper size, the photo paper settings, and the photo itself to align just slightly bigger than the photo paper? The plain paper behind it would catch the overspray, which I could toss in the bin afterwards. As long as I intentionally frame all of my photos so I don't need 10% of the border, then I shouldn't have a problem. I'm guessing the printer would jam though?

  • @cheo1949

    @cheo1949

    That would work. Have fun with the alignment of both sheets. What would be easier but cost you more would to print the image to the size you want on the next large size of paper and trim it. The way I do it for instance, if I need an 8x10 I drop my image to a 3:4 ratio in my editor. In Lightroom I set you the pro tee for Letter size paper. Great a centered 8x10 Cell and drop the image in it. Print and trim.

    Jose, I am printing on a pixma pro 1000 and trying to print with a border, but the borders are uneven. I printed off the phone app with a border and made a custom border on photoshop, same result. Right side of the horizontal image has less of a border. And I cannot access print studio pro either. It won’t install on my windows pc.

    When printing with Minimum leading edge borders are always narrower than the trailing edge border. So when viewed horizontally will always end up with a wider right side border than the left side. There are workarounds but you need an editing app like Adobe Lightroom.

    I can't get equal margins (borders) either. It's driving me nuts. I'm trying to print WITH borders. I've been printing a lot of 4x6 images using the Canon Pixma iP8720 and the white borders on 2 sides of the print are always more narrow than the opposite side. I measured the paper (Moab Entrada Rag) and it is exactly 4x6. I've tried changing every setting I can think of in "page setup" and nothing works. Help!

    Hi Jose, quick question. are you implying that printing borderless is bad for the printer?

  • @cheo1949

    @cheo1949

    7 жыл бұрын

    That's exactly what I am implying. It will Dirty Up the intereior of the printer. That is a detail they conveniently leave out of the instruction. Plus it often causes marring of the trailing and leading edges of the print. Not to mention smearing due to possible head strikes. The feature was never an intended feature but people demanded a way to do it so they implemented these platen sponges to "Help" in the "Catching" of the over spray created. Some very high end printers catch the over spray with a sort of vacuum aspiration system. Way too much overkill simply to allow a feature that NO ONE ever used in the true dark room days anyway. We printed onto paper held down by an adjustable arm Easel and then IF we want ed no borders we trimmed the print. I do the same today and my printers interiors are kept pristine!
