Why Buy Arai Helmets?
www.sportbiketrackgear.com/wh...
When I think "high-end helmets", the brands that come to mind are Arai, AGV, Bell, Shark and Shoei. Comparing these brands over the last few years, all of the brands mentioned have released new, ground-up designs except one: Arai. For me it looked like Arai was being passed by their competition because they had not followed everyone else and released their own "all-new" design. Why hasn't the motorcycle helmet industry leader that introduced their first Arai RX-7 Helmet in 1977 delivered a new shell shape like everyone else has?
In this video we show all the RX-7 / Corsair Helmets that have been imported into the US, anyone can see how similar they look to one another. At a glance it looks like a lack of progress from Arai. The reality is this represents their commitment to building what they feel is the best motorcycle helmet in the world. For Arai Helmets, the Shell Shape is the foundation of everything they do. Arai Helmets all use their Round R75 Design built in the organic shape of the human head working to maintain a relatively uniform thickness at all points.
Over the years Arai has constantly refined their design to improve rider safety and comfort while staying true to their core principles. They have collected a ton of data since the first RX-7RR3 came to the US in 1996 which has been used to make advances in both rider safety and performance. Radically changing the shape would make much of the data they have irrelevant. Making a helmet that performs in a real world motorcycle crash takes more than just passing a helmet certification test.
Arai is Family Owned and Operated, with no board of directors to answer to. Each Arai Helmet is hand built in their own factories in Japan by people who take great pride in producing what they believe is the best motorcycle helmet in the world. These facts allow Arai to stay true to their core philosophy without interference from outside investors focused more on corporate profit than the products they produce.
Passing a certification is a great place to start when you aim to make a safe helmet that performs well for the rider. Having 22 years of Relevant "Real World" Data to help achieve that goal is something only Arai can do. This my friend is the Arai Difference.
Is Arai the Best Motorcycle Helmet in the world? I believe there are a lot of great helmets available today and Arai is one of them. With that said I also feel their uncompromising pursuit of perfection sets them apart from their competition. With Arai you get more than just a helmet, you are getting everything they have learned in their 50+ years spent leading the high-end helmet industry.

When my friend and I first got our bike license, we went shopping for helmets. I saw all the beautiful looking HJC's for $300 (CAD) which I ended buying, and my friend chose to buy an Arai. He paid $1100 for a plain grey one, and I thought he was so stupid to buy that helmet just because of the name! He was kind of like that with everything. One day, I borrowed one of his bikes and I didn't have my helmet, so he lent me his Arai. OMG, that's when I understood! It was so much lighter, and more comfortable than my HJC, which would make my neck sore and the inner pads were hard like rocks. Not only that, but when I took it on the freeway, I couldn't believe there was zero helmet lift! My HJC would always felt like it was going to fly off my head, if it wasn't for the chin straps. The shield would also stay in place no matter where I positioned it! I could never crack the shield open at any speeds on my HJC without it flying open. The day after, I listed my HJC for sale, and ordered an Arai. Thank God, I made that decision. Because on my first get off, I hit the side of my head on the concrete so hard, that I bounced all the way back onto my feet. My side pod was smashed to pieces, and my visor was flapping around, but I walked away without even having a headache. Thank you Arai, and I am a customer for life. Nothing but Arai for me again, ever.

It says something about a company that puts its foot down and says "we dont want to go public, because we dont want people telling us to cut corners to save some money here and there." Safety is at the forefront and is the focal point. Its not about going fast, being pretty, and being the flashiest lid out there. I was torn between an RF1200 and a QuantumX.... I popped the QX on and Didn't look back. All I had to do was tune the cheek pads a touch and it was good to go... Wanting to pick up a CorsairX for track use next. Thank you Arai.

Totally agree. I bought my first Arai after I saw Shinya Nakano have a rear tyre blow out at the end of the straight at Mugello in 2004. According to the data he was doing 196mph and his head hit the tarmac multiple times. Yet he was still able to walk and talk afterwards (albeit in Japanese). I ended up getting the Shoei rf-1200 because I liked the look a little better then the Arai Quantum-X. Also the Shoei had the option to get a full face shield that was photochromatic, while Arai only offered a photochromatic pinlock insert. Only needing one shield to use during night and day is awesome.

Will never buy anything other than Arai. My dad had a motorcycle shop for 25+ years, and saw plenty of crashed skidlids. It was the only reservation he made when I told him I wanted to start riding. I didn't flinch paying for my helmet, I only have one head, I'd like to keep it for a while. The fact you have the possibility to put any lid on your son's head and you choose Arai, speaks volume.

My mate still wears his SHOEI eventhough it has fallen hard over at least 6 times... cause its expensive. I just bought my fourth MT helmet (replace it after every crash or when it fell) cause it's cheap AND as save as Arai or Shoei. It has been SHARP tested and scored 5/5 stars. while there were shoei's and arai's that only scored 3 or 4 on 5 points... Secondly You cant say someone wasnt dead or heavily injured cause the helmet is good. Its also A LOT about luck...

That’s why you’ll be paying $300 more for them not because of so called “hand made” it’s about the quality of the build, there’s heaps of Chinese Solely hand produced helmets in the market but believe me you wouldn’t want to touch them. The ambulance came and took me to the ER in Houston. No concussion. The ER Dr. Told me he has never had anyone come out of the type of crash I went through as good as I did. He was studying my helmet big time. He asked me about it. I told him I spent $700 on the helmet. He said i got my money's worth. He couldn't believe i didn't have a concussion. In todays day and age, information is so easily accessible, there is no reason not to research products. 1: research, research, RESEARCH. 2: if it aint broke, dont fix it. These big name helmet manufacturers are big name for a reason. Tried and true design and protection. 3: YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Its better to save up and get a high end helmet than to pay a little for a cool looking one that "might not" protect you. Is a few extra dollars worth the likeliness of saving your life? You decide.

Yo, Brian! Helmets, helmets, helmets! I was taking a Sports Bike Riders Course in 2009. During a portion of the training, where they teach students how to get past the fear of leaning, and to get your head down past your mirror, I took my first spill with direct head-to-concrete impact. I was at 40-45 mph on a serious left leaning angle, when the back tire slid out. From the impact, the left side of the visor to the center-left side of the helmet, as well as the left shoulder pad on my jacket were severely gouged. I’ve never had an issue riding with a helmet, but after that experience, I won’t ride around the block to warm the chain without one on.

Hello, very informative video. I used to have an old Arai that is the best I have ever had so far. Then 10 years ago I bought a modular from Shoei and I have hated it since the day after. Because of the high cost I still have it. It's terrible for many reasons but the worst is that there is not enough space for the nose. Ok, ok I know my nose is big but I have never had that problem with any other helmet, even with the cheaper ones. Now I've just bought a new bike and I guess is time to come back to Arai. I wasn't sure yet, but you convinced me. Thank you and cheers from Italy

Lol that Donut comment caught me so off guard man I could't believe it when I heard " Police Station " . Too funny. Good stuff though. I actually just started doing track days and I brought the first helmet I ever owned which is an " Icon Alliance " and I had multiple expert level club racers tell me to ditch it to buy an Arai or Shoei and I could tell they were telling me not to sound cool but because it had some merit. I'm going to try some on this weekend and grab one. I use to think that as long as it said DOT on the side that they were all equal. But the more I learn the more I realize how wrong that is. Good video man keep em coming. You coached me through a chain install one point or another lol. Peace man

I've bought a Corsair Jolly Roger, the same as on the table, in 2008 and love the way it feels. It is an amazing helmet, the comfort is amazing. However, there was a problem with the shield change mechanism. I broke 2 of them, while I learned. Now I ride with Shoei X14 (X-Spirit III in EU) and it is very different, better aerodynamics for sure, however I really want to go back to Arai. I truly believe that Japanese helmets are the way to go! Be safe guys.

I have been using Arai helmets on and off for 40 yrs . My first helmet was an Arai , it was a 17th birthday present from my parents , it had beautiful paint work with hand painted pin striping . This was before they introduced ratchet visors . I kept it until it eventually fell apart . I had one of the first models that came with the venting in the visor (1990?) . It was not on my shopping list at the time , way too expensive , but I found one at a dealer's closing down sale for 1/2 price. I did track days , commuted , and toured with it , including numerous 12hr days in the Australian sun.I kept that helmet for years , much longer than I should have , again , until it fell apart. It was the quietest most comfortable helmet I have ever owned . When comparing photos of that helmet to their models of today , the family resemblance is obvious . Family and business commitments meant that I had to give up bikes about 10yrs ago , a situation I hope to remedy in the near future . I have used other brands , Bell , AGV , Kiwi , and Shoei , but my next helmet will be an Arai.

Interesting video and discussing. I'm Japanese and my place is close to Arai's head office. Arai is on top of my list and admire them for over 25 years same as Shimano. But when I saw the head office three years ago, I was a bit surprised because they were still like a small family owned factory. I also grinned at their ugly cheap small Japanese company cars. I felt like they were just doing their daily jobs which is trying to make safer helmets and it's not more than that. For me, it's funny because you guys are discussing about Arai who is just making crash helmets in Japanese rural area. But actually they are protecting human life especially like-minded dumb bikers in the world so they are doing great job!

"You need to dress for the party, just in case you get invited" Love that line!......Dress for the slide not the ride... I own an Arai and bought it first because it fit so well. Have had it for about 5yrs now , my only complaint is that I can't find replacement parts for it. I need a new drop down visor and inner lining. Arai says go to the dealer for parts but if the manufacture doesn't sell parts then how the fuck would a dealer have them. I don't need or want to buy a new helmet. I know I'm l8 to the party here, but it's not hype. Got hit by 2 cagers one spring day in 2001 wearing my Doohan replica Quantum F. Long story short while sailing through the air from impact 1 I planted my head in the fender of an oncoming cage (impact 2) pretty much head on. I was out,, but came 2 a minute later and was up and walking around within 5 minutes. I don't feel any dumber than before the crash. Thanks ARAI! R1 didn't fare as well. It was totaled. To this day I only wear Arai. I rock the Corsair X today and always plan to use Arai helmets because I feel like they've proven to me how exceptional they are. Even before that I was impressed by the helmet's fit and how quiet it was. I was the only one NOT wearing earplugs while riding. in my group

I equate Arai's approach to Occam's razor, simplicity at it's finest. I've struggled to find the right helmet over the years with my long oval head. Arai is the only manufacture who has something that works for me. Kudos to them to sticking to what they believe in and not building something flashy for the sake of it. Shoei makes some great helmets too and spurs good competition for Arai. I tried a X14 and wish it didn't give me hot spots, it was one of the most aero dynamic helmets I've ever experienced. I could tell a difference in the shape compared to Arai on the highway, not that the Arai is bad by any means.

I love my Arai helmets, I got to say I never had an issue changing the shield on my RX7rr3 I could do it with the helmet on, I couldn't do that with my Shoei helmets (they are great) then Arai started changing the system and I would need to have the helmet off to change. With the latest system AVS I think it's called you would definitely need the helmet off, that's the only small ding I see with a great product.

I tried them both and the one that fit the best was the RF-1200. I tried the Signet X but it wasn't quite the fit of the Shoei. If the Arai felt better I would have bought that instead. Both great helmets and worthy of your money. I'll never own a cheap lid again.

There's no arguing to that fact good sir, its just the philosophy of how arai design their product, as round as possible as good as it can be in term of glancing any blow, you can really see any reviews from Revzilla and fortnine channel, they say the same thing for arai, it's just how they do things. Shoei i also believe as an excellent helmet, and i also prefer the shape of the shoei, but with that shape, it only take one bump to hit the a part of the helmet and turn it into torque trough his neck and spine...

Best fitting helmet I've ever owned. Got the first Nicky Hayden Replica RX-7 while I was stationed in Okinawa Japan back in 2003. Haven't had another Arai since due to the price. Out of my budget range.

AGV had chin cave issues for years in any accident where Arai does and never has.

AGV looks good on TV, they look huge on our heads. Even the GP-Tech only uses 3 shell sizes and as expensive as Arai and Shoei who use 5 shell sizes.

How can you argue with that? Just got my agv k3 which is not snell rated but DOT and i gotta say its a gorgeous helmet but my scorpion exo 400 5 years old but snell rated feels so much safer and 10 time more comfortable...uggh. Im no street Rossi but when nobody is in harms way and i have a chance to hurt myself being as safe as i can its probably safe to say that my 300$ k3 is not going to protect my head like a 185$ exo 400? FWIW i go to the gym 6 days a week and invented the extra medium shirt brother or you may have a year or two on me so dont want to take all the credit...personaly you could tighten it up a little more and wtf chics dig it 💪 muscles and wheelies equals a pretty fun life

Just got an rx7v, the co fiesta helmet I've ever worn and I've found iut I've been riding a size too big for years. Went to shops for fitting for my last shoei and a year later I can pull it down past my chin... crashed bad in 2016 and cracked my head on the floor, wearing a nexx lid- saved my life. Bad concussion and still recovering from injuries 3 years later, but I'm alive and still riding. Safety first and make sure it fits you properly!

Similar to Shoei, I bought a rf1200 its a core belief in doing the best that you can. The Shoei large is perfect for me and no worries van most of us couldn't even button that shirt!
