Why Boughton House Is The English Versailles | Treasure Houses | Real Royalty

Boughton has been called the English Versailles. It was inherited by Ralph Montagu, Britain's former ambassador to France in 1683, who filled the house's rooms with French treasures.
From Elizabeth II to Cleopatra, Real Royalty peels back the curtain to give a glimpse into the lives of some of the most influential families in the world, with new full length documentaries posted every week covering the monarchies of today and all throughout history.

Don't you just think that there a room or two in there that has only 'modern' furniture in it? Barcaloungers, Lazy-Boys, both electric and non, so he can get his giggle on, a few mid century modern lamps and a big, HUGE abstract painting!!! In garish colors, galore! With a mini-fridge on a formica table to keep the milk cool for a cuppa! I wonder what kind of bed he sleeps in each night. Something historic or a modern electrified one with multiple positions. He has on rather or somewhat modern cloths so it isn't exactly like he lives in times past, completely. Just want to know what modern or current allowances are made. He certainly can't have a staff of 60-100 shuffling around, inside and out, keeping things running all tip top. A historical place is great to see. A historical place with a few allowances for modernity is even greater to see! I can see a curved deep purple or aubergine sofa in one of those rooms with a huge 'cloud' chandelier hanging from the ceiling. Maybe a Motherwell hanging on a wall. A Georgia O'Keefe! A Henry Moore on a marble plinth! Maybe even a Banksy!!! A big, colorful Picasso! All just to signal it isn't a completely historical setting but a historical yet current place of style and taste where old or new do live together. I find a mix of eras to be the most exciting! Whether it is a 60-40 mix or a 90-10 mix or someother, it is exciting to see how different eras can play nicely together if done with care and respect for each period. Sorry, but I don't find this period piece exciting. It is just too old, drab and uninspiring to be exciting. It needs to be juiced up--- a bit. Not a lot, but a bit. I wonder if they ever open windows or are they breathing the original air as well???

I’ve just across this video accidentally. The history of this place is unique. What amazes me is how wealthy all these lords princes are. Where did all there wealth come from.

It's a pretty house...but it's no comparison to Versailles. The palace of Versailles stands on its own as stunning

This has dignity and grace, neither attributed to Versailles.

The fact that the house was built with some features inspired by versailles seems to have been greatly blown out of proportion here. Calling the house 'the english versailles' because the owner installed similar flooring is deeply simplistic and confusing to many people especially those who appreciate little in architecture beyond the comparison of size.

It’s actually funny since this manor is a shed compared to Versailles

There is no comparison to Versailles. Unless it has expansive walkways where women with flowing gowns can walk, it is not as big or expansive. It will always be smaller and lesser.

I live in the next village from this house and it is a shame that it cannot be seen from the old Roman road the A508.

Thank you for a beautiful documentary. I would have liked to have learned how many people it takes to keep this estate up and if it's able to be visited by the public? 👍😍👍

Beautiful manor house. Hope they have retro fit a fire suppression system, it would be a tragedy if anything happened to the treasure inside. I just want to know where my family screwed up, we are related to Edward I and the Montague's and yet are in Texas.

It's beautiful thank you, worth visiting one day but it's not comparable to Versailles sorry to say this. Versailles has an amazing Orangerie, artistic topiaries, gorgeous fountains, whitewashed sculptures lining the garden down to the lake, plus the Hall of Mirrors inside the Chateu and resplendent shades of teal, magenta and gold color all over the place, and those chandeliers lighting up the hall to name a few . The exquisite garden alone is enough to suffuse your senses with joy!💕
