@@tatianaes3354I know right? I was thinking the same. Seems where most of these estates go wrong is when they start selling off the land. Once the land is gone, there just don’t seem to be a lot of options for sustaining the running costs.

I would imagine Ruth Watson is in the background even today(2022). Anselm did marry & have kids and Elmore florished. He moved out to one of the farm houses on the estate ! Loads of renovations have taken place over the past few years, so good work Anselm.

That is 99.9% fantastic! 0.1% I hoped he would take residence in the grand main house, but it's of course unrealistic. I applaude his accomplishments! What a blessing that there still was property, that no one before him sold off all the land. A tiny place in comparison, that's leaving my family any day now, shrunk quite a bit over the years. There was 4 smaller farms with tennants, a cabin up on the mountain, and a small house on a plot I assume was for a manager. The money that came in from selling those was spent on getting every building in tip-top shape, and everything is flawless now. So it can be a solution for some, but I think it's a HUGE risk in the long run.

after checking out the website, what he has accomplished is nothing short of STAGGERING. excellently conceived and executed. it’s undoubtedly an expensive place to book for an event but it is exquisite. good for him, that was an amazing transformation.

Anselm is one of the most likeable of the upper class twits that I've seen on these shows. Cheers to him.

I really like Ruth, he would never have accomplished anything if she didn’t push him out of his comfort zone.

I’m an American. I enjoy watching these and seeing the cultural differences. It’s also very interesting to watch the episodes where the people who have inherited the estates are polished and upper-crust. Such a neat show!

Well that women is very outspoken but in a good way I think. She doesn't sugar coat it she tells it like it is and that is what he needed.

Ruth knows what she is doing so he was lucky to have her help!

Agreed, I think Ruth helped him get out of his own prison of fearing messing up his history. I'm so happy and proud of all he and Sarah, his wife, have done to preserve this treasure. Their website is stunning!

I like Anselm's humbleness. He was very charming to his guests and they seemed to be drawn in by him as well. I think he is going to grow into himself and do some magnificent improvements to his home. Good luck to you.

His parents didn’t seem very involved in whether he made it a success. Thank you Ruth for giving this young man the push and courage to move forward. It has turned out to be such a success. So proud of him and happy to see he now has an heir. ❤❤

I'm so glad the family tuened this around. I hate seeing old buildings like this go to anyone but the families! Such an amazing transformation.

It feels like this young man has had his ancestors held over him all his life. It was so refreshing to see him beginning to come into his own and make the house his own. Looking at his website he's made it a flying success and a brilliant event space interwoven with the cookery school, and great updates to the house. So cool to see.

I love it when they show the old portraits and you can see how the owners look so much like them.

I really LOVE watching this guy getting on with his predicament. One of my favorite, maybe because he needed so much help from the beginning.

Good lord, I just visited their website and the change is astounding ! He looks all grown up and super confident and the renovations and decor and kitchens are amazing!

Kudos to Ruth Watson and to Anselm and his family....and what a great looking wife and kids he has to share his success with and now they have their own accommodation on the estate. Fantastic!

I so want this guy to make it! He seems like he was so ready to grow up! And those parents!......you can feel the tension.

I too looked up the website and I'm pretty sure his uncle is really impressed by him now.

What an amazing house and estate! And it wasn't bought by a new family. Luckily, the current heir has married and produced more heirs! Thank goodness they saved the family cookbook, which I would hope they think about producing a cookbook with lovely pictures of the estate that they can sell from whatever store they have. Or hopefully will have! While it seems that Anselm just needed a push in the right direction and Ruth made a good start, I think they should lean into the historical aspect of it, with house and garden tours. One of the heirs will likely enjoy that and keep it going. The house has so many possibilities! The house, etc looks wonderful as one can see from the website. Although it does need an edit--it reads to me like Anselm wrote it, but when describing the accommodations, there should be more of "It is a beautiful room..." and less of "We thought it might be...". I love that it is a self sufficient, sustainable catering venue and most importantly, that it survived Covid! He could even go onto making a pub, or even a craft brewery, and serve food in conjunction with the cooking school! Or start out with pop-ups, as a trial. He already has a liquor license, I am sure. And I'll bet that his wife will even see this! I hope!!! And I hope that if she does (or Anselm, but I would bet she is the steam in his engine), they don't take offense but rather accept it as constructive criticism. Most importantly about the rewrite of the website! They should be very proud of what they've done! Sing it loud and proud--(From the pages of the website at least) 😆 Don't think. KNOW!!!

I had no knowledge of this house or its owner before watching this, and after googling about it and him…wow, he’s done so incredibly well. He should be very proud…I love success stories with these grand homes.

It's interesting to hear how his more traditional uncle allowed the estate to deteriorate, likely in hopes that no one would notice from the outside. Innovation is the key to keeping any endeavor afloat.

Interesting his parents weren’t that happy to help this young man ,one would have thought they would be more involved. He’s done well and listened to his mentor.

Not sure when this was filmed.. possibly between 2007-2008....Anselm is now married with kids...Anselm and his wife Sarah has renovated/redecorated the mansion and with thriving businesses.

Just found you here in America! So glad to see this Grand estate being saved.

The house and grounds have so much potential. I would relish the opportunity and challenge to turn the situation around. He keeps saying he has no money, but we learned there is steady flow of income from land rents. And it looks like he will stand to inherit a nice sum when his elderly parents pass. I wish he took his schooling more seriously. It just means he will have to rely on others expertise to make good decisions about the business.

His parents will likely be around for a while. But then he can live in the hideous house they built. The Tudor rooms were already so stunning. And while I hate to see him sell any of it, there are tons of lovely antiques in the house.

If parents had money why did they not do anything for the upkeep of the place? I am glad the son love the place and has the drive to start renovating the place.

This show is amazing in showing how wealth goes over generations. A lot of it through taxes when inherited. A once massively wealthy family slowly dwindles but it is not really their fault when so much is taken just because a family member has died.

I looked him and the estate up, seems like he "grew up" and did something wonderful to the place and surrounding areas.

Made me cry tears of joy. Congratulations 👏

You can see for yourself and I suggest you do so. Search for Elmore court. He has gone way beyond the simple cooking school.

The ancestors are no longer able to make the payments and the kids got to do what the kids got to do.

A pub is the last thing that would help his income. Most make a little above income. Better as an Hotel or B&B

I think he could have the best of both worlds the cookery school and who better to test thier efforts but tourist so a very nice bed and breakfast with a pub where people could actually try the cuisine from the school and some people travel to find a good cookery school for themselfs or thier offspring what a great way to show thier in a very homestyle environment and learning at the same time. If i were rich i would have went and invested in this mans dreams for the estate. Im not rich but i cooked for a living doing mass food production for over 30 years i wish i were younger and rich i believe this estate could be quite amazing

It's very interesting, but the "cooking school " is not a real cooking school, but a holiday adventure in cooking what you eat. Nothing wrong with that, but it's not a cooking school. If it was real, they would have brought the Salmon without gutting or pin boning it and have the students learn how to do borh. It's a beautiful house.

Something close to my heart is clay pigeon shooting. There’s big money in simulated game days on big estates. £1000 pp per day is not an uncommon price. Serve breakfast and a nice lunch, no accommodation and out the gap. Not bad for a days work. 10 people, 4 times a year would cover his running costs and would be a nice supplemental income to his other businesses.

Just need paint , base boards , flooring and some renos new indoor doors maybe and a dinery and reno kitchen
