    I have the blue Ray24, and I agree, the neck is fantastic, so slim by the neck. Great bass in that price range 👍🏻

    @@airwinarceo4765 Hi! Potentially, I'd recommend getting the Pod then selling the pedals in case you like the sound if them combined! I was planning on selling my sansamp when I got the HX Stonp but in a live setting, I like the sound of both combined 😅😆

    I have a Ray 34 double humbucker and a Ray 34 single humbucker and I love both. So far I haven't regretted having both. Both cover every style of music. 🥰👍

    @@JonnyDibble Ray 24 and Ray 34 are almost the same. The big difference is the 2 band preamp (24) and the 3 band preamp (34). Body and neck are the same (mahogany / maple).

    I have the Sterling Ray 34 double humbucker too as well as the 4 SUB and you can definitely hear the difference in tone and sound but they’re both amazing for the price. Since I’m just learning I thought they’d be a good starting point before eventually saving and learning enough to get an actual USA Stingray in the pricier(?) range.

    The low end lobster had a great idea of getting a subray and upgrading the preamp and the pickups and the bridge too. The outcome was amazing.

    @@reubenkinsey2947 Adding the John East pre-amp to the Ray24 still makes it cheaper than the Ray 34 and arguably sonically more versatile and its still a third of the cost of a new US one.

    The Sterling SUB has been on my radar for a long time, but it looks like the Ray is the way to go. Excellent video! “Maple *fingerboard” not neck. 😁

    I don’t have any experience with musicman or sterling, other than the SUB 5 string I’ve had for about a month now, but it’s very nice for a $350 bass! If I played it blind I’d expect it to cost more. To me the weakness is the bridge and how heavy it is.

    I was going to get the SUB until I played the Ray24 at a shop. The feel was so much better and sounded great. Then a few days ago the Butterscotch Ray24 was on a pre-black Friday sale and I locked in a $379.99 sale price on a new one.

    Pay attention to that the Ray4/5 and Ray24/5 model has the pickup wired in series and not in the standard "parallel mode" like in Ray34/5 and USA models...there is NOT a lot of sound difference but if you are NOT a rookie bassist you can feel it...luckily it's very easy to fix the "issue" with a welder..

    10:00 exactly the info I was looking for! I'm buying one of these necks to swap onto my Ray34 because I prefer the Jazz Bass nut width, and I'm not crazy about the roasted maple color that came on it.

    Is the difference huge between the 300 and 600 I plan on getting the 300 1 since I'm in 9-12 school and love the mint green

    Sub has the same truss rod adjustment. I bought a mint green one recently and after a complete set up it including a full pocket neck shim it plays and sounds great, it does have a cheap looking bridge but it works fine. I have had a SR5, three Ray35's and now this sub5 and I like it the best plus it weighs 8.5Lbs

    Oh yeah, they do! Set-ups are so crucial, a 5k bass wpuld play like a dog without a good set-up!

    @@JonnyDibble The only bass I have ever owned that played perfect right out of the box was the US Peavey Cirrus. Of course someone set them of before they were shipped I'm sure of that....Even the nut was cut right...

    Hey Jonny, great video. I’ve just realised I’ve bought your exact bass! (Same damage with the bit of fabric stuck in! and the loose tuner… can you tell me if you changed the strings when you got it? As the last owners not changed anything I think. And what would you advice to use? Heard dr bass are good?

    Oh cool! I changed the strings when they died, and then several times since. On this one I believe it was always Daddario Pro Steels 105s. It's all personal preference when it comes to strings. Got to try different sets over time and see what works for you 😊

    Well... Yet another great video. This sounds a lot better than my SUB 4. I was wondering what camera you use, quality is great. Edit: is yours a gloss finish? My SUB 4 has a matte finish on the body and it feels great

    Thanks man! 🥰 Its a gloss finish yeah, have you got the sunburst SUB4? I saw that had a matte finish. I use Sony A6300 and also an old Panasonic mini slr for bridge angle. Thunk I've managed to find my favourite playing angles in this video! Still learning 😁

    Im a bit uneducated in active basses so I have a question, in this specific bass, let’s say I run out of batter in the pre amp, can I still play “passively” without any batter replacement??? Or do I need batteries to play no matter what ???

    No worries! So You can get active preamp and active pickuos. The battery in this vass powers the preamp, so if it dies the pickup will still work but will be much lower output without the preamp 😊

    I hate the fact that they couldn't come up with a different name as a model they already had. Having said that, I had a Sting Ray until I wore out the frets. (I'm not big on fret replacements). So I sold it and got the Ray 24. Same exact instrument. And I agree, their truss rod adjustment should be a standard on all basses. Why can't they figure that out?

    Yeah, the battery powers the preamp so it'll have much lower output, but it will work

    I have the stingray 24, dropped an Aguilar pickup in her and DAMN! Sounds amazing! No need in dropping $2000 on a MM, unless I win the lottery or get a record contract 🙄😛. (do musicians still get big payday contracts?) 🤔

    I’m so torn with this. I could get this bass right now, it sounds and looks awesome and I’ve always loved the Stingray design, but should I wait two months, save an extra £300 and just get the Ray34 with the natural finish and slightly crisper tone? It’s a toughy!

    Oh man that is tough. The natural finish IS stunning, but how else could you spend that other 300? The 24 is way crisper than the sub series. I love the clarity of this bass but admittedly haven't heard the 34!

    My 25ca has the same crack issues too but luckily it's on the back part of the bass. I pointed it out to the guitar shop guy and asked for a discount and he gave me a 120 USD price cut lol 😂

    Sold my 2000 USA EBMM Stingray 2 band - Sunburst, Rosewood last year for $2100. Picked up one of these for $400 and rewired the pickups in parallel, per Lobster. Haven't looked back. (Not my main bass, I'm a Jazz / P bass guy. Just nice to have a Stingray around as another option).

    Hey how would you fix an open string buzz on a bass guitar? My A string has a pretty loud buzz when I pluck it open. I know you can put super glue and baking soda but I want to know if there’s another way to do it?

    Fwiw, I’ve gotten a bad string on occasion; Ernie Ball strings ironically. Might want to try switching that string, if you know the setup is good, before trying something drastic with super glue

    The Ray24 uses the same preamp and pickup as the Ray4. The only real difference between the two basses is the wood in the body and the bridge. It's kinda hard to justify paying an extra 50% to go from a Ray4 to a Ray24 when the difference is ever so small. Both are great basses though and great value.

    @@JonnyDibble Yeah, I mean the SUB series. I don't know if it was the case when the subs first came out, but they have been sharing the same electronics for a while now. Same pre-amp same ceramic pickup.

    Hi! Which epiphone? I wouldn't say they sound much like a thunderbird. These have more clarity and a crisper high end, not to mention the neck 🤤

    @@JonnyDibble mainly the t bird the definitely sound a bit different because of the different wood used but they use humbuckers so it does a little similar, i think a stingray could sound like a t bird with the right settings tbh

    In the process of installing a Tone Monster MM Humbucker p/u in one of my 90s model USA made Sterlings .....and IF you dont know the Tone Monster name.....WELL ...you MUST check them out .....GREAT preamps for half the price of MOST famous brand preamps.....and POWER for days ....along with GREAT TONE!!!!....But lets just keep all that between US ....hahahaha.....

    been playing Fenders and Stingrays for many years and I found you lose the mids this way. When you keep both tone knobs close to the middle, the sound is fantastic

    @@rrdream2400 I definitely understand. I add mids with my pre-amp and it's sounds perfect. What's more, no fiddling with knobs or worrying if they get bumped out of position whilst I'm playing.

    Bought mine right off the wall at GC. It was set up, a rarity for GC. Great neck, great for $500. Not the shitty SUB bridge and preamp.

    The SUB / Ray4 and the Ray24 have the identical preamp. Identical.

    @@JonnyDibble sound , in Musicman style bass , i like a 2 band preamp. In ray 34 , i love the wood and alnico pick up . Sorry for my Inglish !!!😊

    That’s tough. Very different feeling necks to me! For was though, the Sterling has a much smaller neck so I’ll go with that

    @@miszymat same scale, so it’s the same length, but it’s not as wide. Smaller in your hands but still the same length

    I owned a Ray34 sterling played the hell out of it for 3 years and sold it like a dumb ass. I was lucky to obtained a Music man Sting Ray U.S. made with case- and there really is no difference in tone out side of price tag..but something is just bad ass about runnuing U.S. Sting rays - it's like going into the unknown dark forest with an M-60.

    No competition between these and my 90s models USA MADE MM Sterling basses ....smaller body than the Stingray...3 band preamp...AND a 3 way blade switch for the 3 different coil configs for the p/u!!!....the necks and fret work is way more precise !!!!....nicer wood used for the necks and FRETBOARDS used back then!!!!!!....the 90s models are wanted models like the 70s Stingrays!!!!!!
