That would be the same on highstakes, cuz if u don't, u won't win very much :). I'd say if a bluff will work not only depends on the cards your opponent has (or the stakes as is mentioned here), but more the player personally. To my expierence it won't work necessarily better or worse in micros. But playing for pennies once u played a lot higher, wouldn't motivate me much and I would probably waste my stack cuz of becoming careless if u can hardly lose anything.

FR. Plus, in higher stakes when you raise a premium you just get all folds a decent percentage of the time, whereas in micro stakes its very rare to take a pot down preflop outside of the final few tables. You just print with all of your value so much more in micros its unreal.

I think that when people bluff in general they do not use the right combo's for the specific board texture and end up overbluffing even when they think they're not, and as a result of this they get called too often. I find myself bluffing very little in big pots but with a high success rate when I do it, just gotta have the heart to pull the trigger whenever one of these rare spots show up.

Good point. But surely, if we're losing money on bluffs because our opponents check a lot of hands (don't value bet enough), we're making that money back with dividends by not losing money in spots where they're supposed to bet.

right on point when i first started playing microstakes MTTs and i was very profitable from the start playing a tight-aggressive game then as i played and started understanding some tendencies and weaknesses those players had i was able to make very very strong reads on them and mixed up a lot of bluffs but would get called too many times by stuff like 3rd pair , a weak pocket pair , a high even when they made a donk blocker bet on the river and I 4-5x theyd still call with hands that arent even supposed to limp . play tight play confident play strong hands from strong positions make greedy value bets especially before the river and find thin value on rivers exploiting stations even harder, thats the way to go

Hi Ben, excellent point. I play $5 online tournaments. Ppl are scaredy cats, they are not willing to put in thin river value bets. The other side of this tho is when you try to bluff them they show up with unexpectedly strong hands. I fired a river bluff the other day when checked to by the OOP preflop aggressor who had bet flop and turn. He snaps me off and rolls over top pair ace kicker on a board as dry as dust! So nitty.

Haha. It’s one of the funniest things to see on a funny afternoon micro stakes or low stakes PkO, is someone bluff what would be considered a good bluff, and then get called down, and the bluff shows. I laugh out loud, cause you think, yeah, from a risk reward set of values. A pair of queens should have called that river bet. But it’s microstakes or low stakes. I’ve found personality is way more important. You can bluff the weak players. And if they raise 9/10 they have a strong hand. The key to bluffing low and micro is confidence. You show any weakness in your bluff, they will not buy it for a second. Timing tells are big on micro and low..

My problem is that I do valuebet thin on the river, but I often can not let go of the hand when I get raised (4bet pot pre, AA on J949K). So the thinvaluebets range becomes a bluffcatcher as well. Hasn't worked out very well since people dont bluff raise rivers at small stakes.

In the microstakes mtt: 1. Choose value-betting on the river when you have a good enough hand instead of checking with fear that you will be raised (yes, sometimes you will be raised, but it is 10% of the times when opponents have a super good hand) 2. Don't do bluff-raising on the river, because opponents will not have enough bluffs in their betting range, so your raise will most of the times just get called and you will loose more money. These are the main points.

Ben, i truly appreciate your videos and lessons, thank you! One more thing i would like to add- and that also concerns psychology- raising OTR on the microstakes is almost useless (unless you have a strong read) not only because of ranges, lack of opponents' bluffs in their ranges and so on. What makes these raises really useless- is the simple and totally disconnected with logic and maths HUMAN INTEREST: "WHAT DOES HE HAVE... ALWAYS CAN BE A BLUFF...I CALL." And this interest is one of the most important leaks on the micros, that thinking and serious players shall hardly and diligently exploit: less bluffs, more greedy valuebets. - and hugs from Saint-Petersburg ; )

Tbf bluffing seems to work fine at micro and low stakes from my experience. You aren’t going to get people make massive hero folds like maybe in higher stakes, but people fold plenty. Micro players fold to pressure. I would add that 1$ games seem to be the outlier tho. Ppl just get it in and gamble with anything. But 3-11$ range it does work fine

ya bluffing works just fine. He dont play cash games we can tell. Hes talking nonsense. And its actually tougher to bluff as you move higher in limits cause the higher you go the more money these guys have and they aren't afraid to lose. I seen insane calls at nose bleeds against me with just a blocker and bottom pair while i over bet shoved. They don't care if they believe you have more bluffs then value hands in your range they are calling where at the lower limits these nits will fold more often. People have it backwards thinking you can bluff at nose bleeds and not at lower limits. Its the other way around. AT nose bleeds they will do crazy value bets with like Q high. They understand ranges way better then the lower limit players that are nut peddling. ITs much different tougher more complex game. stacks are deeper too so your in much more complex situations. Trust me its easy to bluff at the lower limits compared to higher ones.

Man ill tell people overcomplicate the micro's WAYYYY too much. There is only two things you need to do in order to consistently win in the micros, play tight, and when you have a good hand you play aggressive, if you get re-raised unless you got close to the nuts, fold. The only exceptions are when your playing very loose players where you might want to call if the board has no draws and you have a solid hand. Other than this you need nothing else, you will win, albiet not too much but you will. People i've met overcomplicate things way too much and end up losing lots of money when this should be stressed as being the SOLE starter for playing poker. After you consistently win for at least 10000 hands then start tweaking you strategy slightly and see how it works out. Bluffing at low stakes should be rare and its not really necessary. I would say if anything bluffing 7/10 will lose you lots of money unless you know the guy your playing folds out unless he has the nuts, which in micros is rare. The people at the micros are callers, limpers, and will stop at nothing to see the next card.
