Another overlooked detail about batman. He doesnt just beat up criminals. He actually tries to effect change in Gotham institutionally. It’s well established in the comics and in mainstream Batman movies (like the Nolan trilogy) that the Wayne Foundation is a large-scale philanthropic efforts. It’s established that Wayne Industries manufactures products in Gotham even though it’d be more profitable to manufacture stuff elsewhere. He does charitable outreach. He funds schools. He builds housing. He’s devoted to rehabilitating rather than merely imprisoning criminals. One of the hallmarks of Bruce Wayne’s character for decades is his decision to carry on the legacy left behind by his parents and to funnel money and resources into helping the downtrodden and destitute of Gotham City through the umbrella philanthropic organizations. Wayne foundation, funded through profits from Wayne Industries various capitalistic enterprises, contributes to scientific research, medical funding, the arts, orphanages, housing and feeding the poor and the sick, just to name a few of its efforts. In an enormous way, Bruce is keeping Gotham City afloat just with the Wayne Foundation alone, aside from his efforts as a vigilante. he owns Wayne Enterprises and the Wayne Foundation. Companies that were founded by his family in the 17th century. Within these two companies Bruce Wayne does numerous charitable acts to raise the people of Gotham City. Named after his parents, Thomas and Martha Wayne, Bruce seeks to improve those who society ignores. He has two Wayne Foundations. The Martha Wayne Foundation which deals with family and kid stuff--helping "at-risk" youth, subsidizing education programs. The Thomas Wayne Foundation is for medical stuff. He does other stuff, but the Wayne Foundations are his babies. In fact in a story as recent as, The Court of Owls, he spent a huge amount on rebuilding derelict industrial neighborhoods and improving Gotham's public transit system. In addition to this, he literally spends a fortune on his mission as Batman which has saved countless lives.

Yeah, this is the reason it bugs me when people say that Bruce should try and use his money to help instead of the batman. They don't realize that he does, a lot of his story's (at least from what I remember from the animated show) have him holding a charity or fundraiser.

I think Bruce sees himself in a lot of his rogues gallery. The night of his parents murder placed him at a crossroads and, rather than recklessly go after the ones responsible immediately, he spent the rest of his youth learning and honing his skills. He reminds me of Captain America in the fact that he has reached the peak of human physical ability. While Cap was given a serum treatment that dramatically altered his physiology, Bruce spent decades of his life working to improve his body and mind. Both are great strategists and tacticians, but Bats easily jumps to the brilliant category.

From the time when I first started reading comics, my two favorite male heroes were Batman and Spiderman. Batman is a self-made hero, without any powers added. He has a good head on his shoulders, a strong sense of right and wrong, and a powerful drive to make things better for those around him who are just trying to live their lives. He doesn't expect everyone to live up to his personal code, which is why he finds ways to neutralize all heroes he comes across. And various ways that can change people from good to evil... alternate universes being one. If he knows how to take down his companions if they go rogue, then that's one more thing he can take from future concerns if things go south. He =plans= for the worst, and hopes for the best. Certainly he plays hard after working hard. Unwinding is very important for personal balance, not just so no one will expect he is Batman. Spiderman, as an aside, is also a favorite, because he lives a working Joe's life. Other than when selling pictures of Spiderman, he's not making money from being a hero, so he has to do it in other ways. He has the same sorts of pressure on him that the rest of us do, PLUS what he gains from keeping a super heroic secret identity. I've liked many other heroes, but they weren't as... much liked as these two, for the reasons mentioned. Many had no need to keep secret identities, or their hero form better hid their non-super identity, or they were aliens without the need to bother with such. Characters so removed from an average life that they were reduced to stories that might be fun/engaging to read, but not as relatable. Batman has probably worked far harder than most of the rest to be who and what he is. And he does it for the rest of us, even the criminals he catches.

@@riftalope (nods) Qualities that *=any* *human=* might possess, but he not only has them, he tightly focuses all of those traits towards the betterment of all. Sure, he lives the life of the super rich during the day, eating the best of the best, traveling the world, ect. But he still is driven to help everyone else, not just turning his back on the masses, or paying other people to "take out the trash." Other people can be bought out. He can trust himself to not be swayed by money, because he has ungodly sums of it. The thought of other people, other children going through what he did as a child has convinced him that SOMEONE needs to step up. If everyone leaves it to someone else, it won't be done. Nominated himself. He knows he needs strength and agility, so he's trained for that, all his life. With the access to all the best food, he grew up very healthy, with likely very good genes as well. His parents were highly intelligent, but taken from him young by a stroke of bad fortune. He's doing his best to reduce that sort of bad fortune from repeating itself. But at the end of the day, even he knows he's only one man... no matter how long his shadow falls. Betting that's part of why he's taken up Robins now and again. And (if they live so long) setting them free to be heroes elsewhere. Nightwing was one who did that.

Batman is the greatest Superhero of all time. A terrible tragedy happened to him but instead of letting the situation control him, he got up, stopped whining and took control of the situation and set meaningful goals for himself. Batman can own anything and everything and yet he chooses to spend his money on charity and on his mission as Batman to rid the world of crime sacrificing his body, health, joy and peace in the process. He is our collective rage at injustice and oppression. He is a man searching the dark alleys of his mind to bring balance to an unjust world. He is a social activist. When we step back to gaze long upon the great Batman tapestry, when we look for the common thread woven through it by Kane, Finger, Fox, O’Neil, Englehart, and that endless line of creators, those who have come and gone as well as those who are still weaving, what do we see? We see a hero. We see someone we’d want on our side, a figure we’d love to call forth from our shadows and hurl at those who would do us wrong. We see that part of ourselves that wants to scare all of life’s bullies away, and we like it. He is driven. He is like a revolutionary who stands up to tyrants or the activists who fight against great odds to make this world a better place. Out of tragedy, great good can arise.

That fight/debate between Batman and Lord Batman is just... It gets me every time. It's the most visceral revelation about why he does what he does and why he is who he is. A child's suffering and loss, laid bare. Bruce didn't just LOSE his parents, they were taken. And not only were they taken, it happened right in front him him, burned into his memory until the day he dies. And because of who his parents were, and how they raised him, he thankfully sided with his personal need to save as many others as possible from ever experiencing that tragedy themselves. He fights, because he can't bear the thought of anyone else feeling what he feels. He can't accept any other child having to experience what he has, and he'll do everything possible to prevent it. And good as he is...all it takes to tip him over the edge...is another tragedy like Flash's brazen murder by Lex. He tries his best to keep his distance, but the other members of the JL are the only family he has left beyond Alfred and his various Robins. He doesn't have the strength left to lose anyone else like that. Not really.

@@sparshbansal6624 Actually, in one of the Batman Beyond Comic Series, Bruce is actually married to Harley. They got married so Harley could exercise spousal privilege and not be made to testify against Bruce- however- as the memory Engram of The Joker within Bruce's Brain notes, they do have legitimate feelings for each other.

Batman may not be right all the time in a "moral" view, but he's almost always right in getting the mission done. That's what he's about, he will do whatever is needed to have the mission be a success, and you don't have to like it. His results speak for themselves. That's what made Dick Grayson quit being Robin. He didn't like how it was always Batman's way, never his. But if you want to go against Batman's plans....you're an idiot. There's a reason Green Arrow always sides with Batman, even when Batman quits the JL, he knows that Batman always has a plan, he does what he does because it leads to victory. You might not know what his plan is, but you don't need to know, if you did know, then you'd be Batman.

Sorry to say but in the tell tale series that never happened, NEVER, harley can never be brought to the bat cave and theres no romance between them, its likely a modded character swap with cat women, in the story theres never any jealously, when joker made out with harley on that table bruce was angry because he was kidnapped, beaten and had alfred, selena kyle and tiffany kidnapped with him,

I mean, Batman has lots of girlfriends, depending on time and continuity. Catwoman (Selena Kyle), for sure... but in Justice League continuity, he and Wonder Woman (Diana Prince) have a thing, and then he's got a thing with Batgirl (Barbara Gordon - Commissioner Gordon's daughter), and there's Vicky Vale the reporter... and most of all, he's got a kid with Talia al Ghul (daughter of Batman villian Ra's al Ghul). But here, they're most likely talking about Wonder Woman.
