Austin Mahone and Cody Simpson on the other hand, did just that and didn't stick with their roots. You can have similar qualities to an artist, but nobody likes copy-cats.

I’m so happy he stayed true to himself. You never saw bad stories about him in the media. Successful music career or not he has a heart of gold

He still releases music and some of his recent songs have a few million views/ plays on spotify and KZread, so I wouldn't say he "flopped". He's now independent and makes 100% of that money, so he's probably actually doing better off than some mainstream artists who have record labels taking a huge chunk of the revenue. Just because he's not heavily promoted by mainstream media, doesn't mean his career ended, you just don't hear about it without doing some searching.

I feel like austin and shawn are on par when it comes to talent.

His first mistake was not to allow a label to promote him. Promoting yourself or self-publishing stamps you as an enemy of the industry, I know from experience having been in the industry for years. The next thing that probably comes into play is that he probably wouldn't give "IT" up to a producer or label executive and so he's been d listed. The amount of manipulation based on certain physical favors is ridiculous and disgusting in this industry.

@destinyj What you said is true, but Justin Bieber and Shawn Mendez also lack originality and depth, AND YET chart well and sell out arenas. For Austin, the music just isn't on par with his marketability. All his singles sound like songs male A-listers in the music industry rejected before they got passed down to him. I think he'd work better in a boy band than as a stand alone artist.
