I hung out with Mick way back in 1984. He's not as "wild" and he would have you believe. However, I think too many years of hiding behind partying, and playing the drums in his hard hitting style has taken its toll. He never married, has no kids, and while still the same sweet guy, I'm pretty sure he just wants to live a quieter life now. The music business is not all it seems to be.

I wonder if he found out that perhaps Don dickered him on a record deal and possibly Lynch had done the same at one point. That’s enough to sour a relationship - being taken advantage of. I’m not saying that this has happened - only a possibility.

every member of that band had tallent, even Don, though he had the least of it..perhaps. Tooth and Nail was awesome, and until Under Lock and key ok... i can't listen to that today and not cringe, besides the solos it's hot garbage. But when i would assume was the reunion referenced in this video i heard Mick sing the parts Don could not, I was like wow, how did they not utilise this guy more. The only reason i listened to Dokken was because of Lynch, all of us thrashers who started wit Sabbath, VH and Crue grew out of it within a year and went on to Accept Metallica and Slayer and on and on. Some stuck with that genre, but in my world. It was like Lynch Mob was great, but too late. But basically a lot of us were like man... wish Lynch was in a better band. I mean in a few short years Yngwie dominated, plus then you had Andy LaRoche in King Diamond. Fking phenom Lesson in don't chase trends. And the only person who persevered, got insanely better and leads everyone he was compared too by miles, every single one, ..is the mighty Akira Takasaki.

Micks brother talks to George and has played with George odd that he hasn't spoke to Mick on his behalf! I think at the end of the day you reach a point that you are just done. Look at Chris DeGarmo and Vito Bratta they just walked away and called it good.

Yes he's been recording with Arlie but no touring unless you consider the off Coffee Shop one lol. Rylie has a beautiful voice and they of course sound fantastic together😉

Along with Back For The Attack are the the pinnacles of their career. Both stellar albums, IMO. It would be very hard to pick just one. Also, even though Dokken was moderately successful, I don't understand how they weren't elevated even higher. They were better than a lot of their peers who outsold them in album sales.

Tooth And Nail, Under Lock &Key, and Back For The Attack in my opinion are all MASTERPIECES. Even Breaking The Chains to me is close to being a MASTERPIECE. In my opinion Dokken should have been way bigger than they were in the 80's .

I met and was fortunate enough to hang out with Lynch mob in 1992 after a show in Philadelphia promoting their self-titled album. George was a nice guy, a little stand offish, but Robert and Mick were awesome. Mick was funny as hell, and spent time answering questions about the Dokken days and his time playing the strip. I understand time catches up with all of us, but it's a real shame that he's not playing any longer... Great drummer, Great guy

​@@pb12661He's quiet. Not a loud mouthed party guy. Very reserved. You can still be nice and quiet at the same time. Back on the early 80s he might have had an attitude. I couldn't tell what was going on with George. When I was hanging out with Mick, George wouldn't say two words to me. Maybe he just looked at me as a groupie. Fair enough if he did. That has changed with age though. He's a nice guy.

​​@@pb12661no it's not. Some people do not have personalities that fill a room. You have introverts,you have extroverts and you have a mix. It's very obvious George is an introvert. That does not mean he is an asshole. It means it takes him some time to warm up to people and he generally does not like large social circles even if he is on stage. Completely different animals. I know this because I am one. That does not mean he is shy, it means he prefers solitude. The only people that generally have issues with that are people that are the opposite. I would bet George would have loved to play his guitar and earned money without anyone around if possible. Imo the biggest issue between George and Don was their personality differences. I remember an interview with Don and George and George said to don, " do you really want to know what bothered me?" "When you introduced the band every night, you said my name the loudest" . That right there was a big clue.

Rockin' with Dokken'!!! Or...maybe not. It is a shame to see our favorite bands slowly disintegrate over time. Though I am still very young at heart, stories like these remind me that I am getting older too. I have worked very hard over the years and there are times when I just feel like I need to go to bed because I am so tired. But a good rest always recharges my batteries. Hopefully Mick will get some much needed rest and return to the scene on his terms. Great video Richard. Shred on!

Mick Brown has FINALLY "retired", brother...Done, finito, NEVER to return. Mick IS an old school Hard Rock DRUMMER. His "BODY" IS, simply D.O.N.E....It happens ya know, to LOTS of us "DRUMMERS".....Mick obviously IS? One of those people that HAD/HAS to REMOVE himself entirely from "ALL of the old stompin grounds" to STAY healthy and NOT have to be the "old drummer" sittin on the side line watchin ALL his old bandmates/buddies STILL Rockin OUT. It happens like that with some "peoples"....Ask me HOW I know of such (turnin 50 later this year 😬) and also an "ex- METAL drummer" that played off and on (MOSTLY as "MY" health WOULD dictate, especially towards the end) throughout the decades since I was a 8 year old kid playing snare, bass and percussion in the school band back when. Just like , IF ya quit drinking etc.? It ALL changes......It ALSO, IS a pretty good eye opener of just WHO TF IS/ARE..? Your REAL and true "friends." NO doubt........ROCK the funk ON! 😎🤘🔥🤘

I know exactly what you're saying. I'm 53 but I kinda forget that because I'm still playing shows and hauling around a 5150 stack while so many other players I know went to little 2-12 combos. I've found that metal and denial keeps me young. Lol keep rocking my friend.

George is a long time friend of Mick’s. The least Mick can do is give George a call and tell him straight out where he stands in his life right now, and be done with it. Of course, nobody knows the situation Mick’s in currently, so it’s up to Mick if he wants to share his side of the story. It’s great that George and the others are trying to keep in contact with each other.

There's an interview with Don Dokken where he essentially said Mick wasn't in contact with him either. Don essentially said that Mick was just done, his body was worn out and he was making a clean break from his music career. Drums are rough on the body. Just saw an interview with Bobby Blotzer. He was having back problems. Phil Collins - major back problems. Neal Peart was having a bunch of physical issues with his joints and muscles before he retired. From what I can tell, the guy has been drumming non-stop (he was playing with Nugent later in his career) and is probably seeing the writing on the wall. If he completely checks out and stops talking to everyone he knew in music, there is no temptation to go back.

I can somewhat relate. I was in a band for years when I was younger. I was friends with my band mates and we got along very well, but I also understood that the band life was the bond that kept us on a friendship level because we had the same priorities in our lives. When I decided to leave the band life behind and went back to school, I lost touch with a lot of my old band friends. There wasn't any beef or conflict, but it was just the fact that we were no longer on the same page in our lives and we had different priorities. It happens.

Mick used to hangout at my house from 1985 to 1993. My house was called campdooom to Mick. He was actually a nice guy. But he was unforgiving person. Heavy partyer and had a big heart at the same time. It was a roller coaster ride with him. Hopes and prairies for him truly.

​@@j.t.cooper2963Why wouldn't he. Mick had a hard time at one point. I'm not sure if it's true, but I heard he lost most of his money and ended up at his parents house for a bit. We hung out for a bit too. These guys were very approachable, regular guys.

It’s sad that Mick won’t talk to George. They grew up together and stuff.

It's indicated that Mick just wants some distance and move into a different phase separate from his past career in his senior years. Give it some space and another year and see where things may stand; at least George and Don get along as well as they ever have now and seem to enjoy sharing the stage when George guests at the Dokken shows. Jeff pretty much gets along with everybody.

If my memory serves me, I recall reading/hearing that Mick has suffered physically for years of hard drumming and living life on the road. I’ve met him and hung out with him and talked with him and although a funny and jovial guy, one can see the stress in him. Good for him for saying “when” although it may have been too late. Also, one can’t help but to wonder if there are business factors at play as well.

I was in bands in the '90s in San Diego we were playing at a club and a guy just started taking photographs of our band. The guy turned out to be Dokken's photographer they were taking a break from touring this was in 1993. Apparently his nickname was rat's ass have no idea how he got it. He really liked our band and he told me Jeff Pilson had a small studio in Van nuys gave me Jeff Pilson's number and said I should go record a demo with Jeff. I ended up going to Van Nuys and visiting Jeff at his studio called Pilsound. He was a very cool guy he was going to let us stay at his house for a few days while we recorded the tracks.

At the end he was just in pain all the time. Of course I gleaned this from all the interviews I’ve listened to over the years so who knows what he was having to do to cope with the pain. He’s got to do what he has to for his health period.

I still believe they will talk to each other one of these days. Mick is just shot from all his years of playing and just want to now relax. Everyone always loved 'Wild' Mick but at this point he wants to retire and enjoy life. I would just hope one more small reunion tour happens w Dokken & he joins them

George has a band with Steve Brown (The End Machine) so I'm sure there were one or two "let your brother know I hope he's doing okay" messages passed to Mick Brown.

Politically Mick & George are polar opposites. These days unfortunately that's enough to do it.

Mick changed his number and has had no contact with the current Dokken members, he shut all social media down, he’s just living his life Wild Mick Brown style. I helped him on his last gig, New Bedford ma, he told me he had 4 more gigs and he was retiring, but he had a health scare and never played again, he told me my buy BJ was gonna take his spot. ( bj zampa & Chris McCarvill are to of my closest friends). They flew bj out to the gig and that was that.

Met Mick back in the 90s I talked for quite awhile with him & Jeff Pilson. Both great guys talked music but Beatles primarily. It is tough to retire from music.

When he retired from that life. I'm sure he just wanted a fresh start. Good for him. As long as he's happy. Happy retirement Mick !!~

Ok I had the privilege of helping mick at his last Dokken gig in April of 19. It was at the ‘vault’ in New Bedford, MA. He said he his shoulders and hips were killing him and surgery may not fix it, so at tha point he was doing 4 more gigs then he wanted BJ Zampa to take his spot. ( bj & Chris McCarvill are to very close friends of mind, ) Mick sadly never did another gig. He had some sort of anxiety the following weekend and called Don and said he couldn’t play anymore, so BJ got the call. Mick change his phone numbers and closed his social media, from what I here he doesn’t return anyones calls , but occasionally plays at a local bar he hangs out at in AZ. Shame. Mick was a awesome guy, monster player and funny as hell.

Maybe Mick has a hard time saying no, and doesn't want to allow himself to get sucked into something he really doesn't want to do , just to appease his friends/band mates. He has nothing to prove to anyone nor does he owe anyone an explanation. Let the man live his life the way he wants. He owes nobody anything

That lineup was something special , one of the best , and I got to c them at Monsters 88 - went for the sole reason to c them and the Scorps

Some of my old bandmates, when they call, I know they will badger me to get into a band with them. That's the way it is. After a while those calls can wear on, at least me I know. A real road dog like Mick, if he doesn't want to or can't play, it might be hard to keep turning down his old bros, possibly having to be aggressive to be heard. So maybe it's easier to not converse at all.

And back in 2012 or 2013 George,Jeff, and Mick recorded the T&N Slave to the Empire album and the 3 of them appeared on That Metal Show.

I believe Mick just wants to be incognito and left alone for awhile. Its an interesting way of dealing with it, but there could be many personal issues Mick is dealing with. Plus, making that income ceases--- as you know, this business ages you 1000 years, ha. It does--- if Steve in Dokken doesn't spill anything during concert sessions, then it's like Van Halen. Lips shut!! Thanks for posting-- Mick is just retired in Arizona and wants to be left alone. The classic Dokken lineup was 2016. That is it.

They call him "Wild" Mick Brown because in 1981, while on tour with Quarterflash, he threw a pillow out of a first story window at a Howard Johnson's. After that, the rock world knew he was a wild man.

Drumming is very physical. Body parts wear out. The guy's been in the business since the 70's, so I understand him wanting to be done. Its probably easier to separate himself from the business if he severs those connections for awhile. Or maybe he permanently severs them. Whichever works best for him, I absolutely respect his choices. He doesnt owe us as fans any explanation

People change and Mick wants to be alone again. 😉

I've been in a couple bands now for the last decade and one with life long friends. I remember watching "Behind The Music" and every episode was basically the same "Then the band had internal conflict and fell apart.." And I remember screaming at the TV every episode like "Why can't you guys just figure it out??!!" EVERY TIME.. But alas being in a band albeit only locally somewhat successful and with the added luxury of lifelong friends there is just a disconnect at times, it's unexplainable yet when we go through those times I look back at my thoughts on the "Behind The Music" documentaries and say to myself "Oh now I get it.. " Even though I don't know why exactly there is disconnect I just know it's there. And I can imagine how it is with all those other successful bands when you throw money and fame on top it's gotta be a thousand times worse. So what I mean to say is yes I'm curious just as you are with George and Wild Mick's disconnect after all those awesome years of just practicing, then gigging touring and reaching the zenith of the "Dream".. However I quickly then realize that I am not as curious because our band goes thru it and it sucks, but I know what it is.. Even though I don't know exactly what it is, and I think it's the same with them, and pretty much every other band. Maybe it's just a by-product of Humans dynamic fluid emotional aspirations meeting the grind of creativity and the over-familiarity breeding the unavoidable discontent. It just seems the "same old story" of man. We want what we don't have then when we get it the individual idiosyncrasies just eventually clash and we all wear out.. Just my humble. Great Video. You better go see all these old school rockers before they retire or no longer can play. What I would do to go back to 1981-89.

I imagine this has been pointed out by now, but since this video, Mick has done an interview with Rimshots with Sean on the Barstools & Bandtalk YT channel if anyone wants to check it out. Mick is in great spirits and seems super happy in retirement.

I have been a huge Dokken fan since 1981. I hate to say it but I think there comes a point to call it a career. Don can’t sing anymore with all the years of singing and smoking. 😓

As a now 60 year old, I cannot believe I packed in playing drums myself in 2013 at age 50! I had played over 34 years and you will be in pain in some manner. Plus playing bars loses its lustre quickly . I also could care less seeing the majority of musicians from the many bands I was in ,mostly because they are drunks, drug addicts and unstable. I love the peace and quiet now, just got to sell my 2 kits.......

Once I got sober "all that" was bullshit to me , got a decent paying day job ducks in a row life. I still play fiddle chunk out cash for "just 1 more" but the lifestyle was delusional vision for me ....

I saw a interview he did around a year or so ago. He said he has absolutely no desire to play anymore. He wanted to hang out on the beach and enjoy some cocktails with non industry friends. I suppose after the level of success he has had, it may be hard to stay away from "the life". Not to hear fans screaming his name and having fun playing may bum him out. Drumming is quite physical. Mick was notorious for his hard hitting style. It is hard to come to terms with the fact that he can't play at a level he once did. I applaud any musician that knows when it is time to retire. As not to ruin his legacy as one of the best drummers that came out of the 80s. Sometimes you need to cut clean of everything and everyone associated with something you need to leave behind. Don is now trashing him as well. So why even get back into drama. Let the man enjoy his life. Cherish the great music he has made. Good luck "Wild" Mick Brown. One of the absolute best.

almost sounds similar to when alex staropoli and luca turrili split and luca indulged in his various side projects wheras fabio continued sining with alex staropoli in rhapsody of fire then went to luca and started turrili/liones rhapsody that only had one album and disbanded so idk what happened considering that all 3 founded rhapsody in the 90s and idk what caused the split in the first place which sucks because rhapsody is one of my favorite bands

You know what, George. Put down one one of your projects, get out of the studio, AND GO VISIT HIM. Don't both of you live in Arizona? Just drop by and say wazup. If he tells you "Get off my lawn!", THEN you'll know you're not friends. I don't blame Mick at all here. Some people just don't want loose ends, that's ok too. People drift apart. Doesn't mean you're not friends. I haven't talked to my high school bestie in 2 years, [since the passing of EVH] and maybe 5 years before that. But when we do talk, we pick right back up.

There's a difference between work friends and personal friends. When Mick retired, it appears he wants to disconnect himself from his work friends and just concentrate on his personal life.

Those guys are good, 🎸🥁

I don't know the truth, but here's what I think. A lot of those guys say they're "clean" but they're not. When I met him he was a douche and high as a kite. I think Mick realizes it's time to get clean and he can't associate with anyone into drugs and alcohol because he needs to stop.

He may be sick, I ghosted every friend I had, except for one friend. I had stage four throat cancer and didn't want to burden anybody. I'm in remission for now, but I've lost that loving feeling to reconnect. I really just don't want to explain everything to everyone. My life has changed drastically, and I'm not interested in bumming people out. They'll remember me for who I was, as opposed to who I am now 👍👍👍

He probably got sick of carrying George out to the limo after George got too wasted--I helped him do it back at the old Foundations Furums. He seemed annoyed then-- but I think it was worth it being in a band with George Fucking Lynch!!

I’ll never understand why they weren’t headlining all those tours? Twisted sister a joke, can’t believe Dokken opened when it shoulda been the other way.

I seen Dokken about 5 years ago in Northfield Park Rocksino in Ohio, they were getting ready to play, the song, Just got lucky,.. Mick Brown said behind the drum kit, I wrote that song. I"m still waiting on the royalty checks Don'."".. The crowd chuckled,.. But the look on Don Dokkens, face was anger! Also I have read that Mick said his body is sore and beat up after all these years and he just wants to go be a grandpa.

I think Mick has basically cut himself off and from what I know it's due to health reasons. I don't think we know for sure if he & George aren't friends anymore or if he & Jeff Don aren't friends. As mentioned, Mick has retired from touring and I think he just wants a new life now. Mick was always a solid drummer & fun dude in my interactions with him. If there's anything more, the four of them are keeping it quiet and I respect that and just hope Mick's doing o.k.

Why is there an expectation that he should be available to everyone and feel the the need to explain himself to others for the way he wants to live his life? I really don't understand that mindset. Just leave him be and let him live his life the way he wants to... and fuck anyone who doesn't understand.

There's no doubt that metal drumming is physically strenuous. Exercise helps with the impact of repetitive movements. I drum for a death metal band at 52 years old called Parasitic. Its good cardio for sure. 🤘😃 I'm willing to bet if Mick gets into some sort of physical training, it might spark his passion for metal rhythms again. And yes, Mick Brown rocks. Unchain the drumming bro.

Don also said Mick will not respond. He has unplugged from everyone and Don doesn't know why. He retired because his body is shot , he can't sit In an airplane seat for any length of time and on their last tour couldn't keep up with the other guys in the airport because his joints hurt so bad. Same thing with Neil Peart he just couldn't do it anymore.

I have heard dozens of stories about mick brown from homie and about how much of a speed freak he was

Did you know George Lynch hangs out in Turlock? He is friends here with Matt Swanson. Matt owns a studio here called Creation Labs. George has recorded there. And I heard George may be recording a couple of albums there in the near future

I heard an interview a few years ago with Don where he said Mich was in constant pain from the years of impact from drumming. I'm betting he's not picking up the phone for fear of letting them down. Which is ironically what he's doing by not picking up the phone.

This unfortunately is more common than you think. Personally I don't really have an internet presence for probably the same reasons he doesn't...

Mick Brown told Don Dokken his hands were in pain like he couldn't even make a fist let alone keep drumming as he quit Dokken maybe 5 years ago or so.

This is my issue with the music industry in general. why guys do this is because they want to retire from being PUBLIC. They want a private life and the rest of Dokken are still in the lens. KZread the rest of social media. Leave the guy alone. He's paid his due to the music machine but it never stops being hungry. Leave the man be. I get it. I left the ugliness of this life long ago and i am only starting again because i need the money and to be honest i have had second thoughts over and over. your life is public when you take on this burden and for some it becomes too much to carry. give the man his peace he has earned it

Physically yes. The drums are such a physical instrument. and he played them so hard, for so many years it catches up.. The man was just tired of the Dokken thing.. The hassle of fly ins, playing rented drums, but the stress of playing "peace maker" with underlying drama between band member personalities was the biggest part..

I do know that micks brother plays drums as well he plays all the end machines shows and I belie ve he plays lynch mob shows as well

Mick's brother is currently drumming for Tesla. He also played on the second The End Machine album. Very good drummer.

I think the real story is that MB’s body is shot. He knows what those phone calls are for and he can’t do it.

Why does he have to have a reason? Maybe he has no hard feelings towards anyone and just wants to move on with his life outside of music. His relationship with Lynch and the other guys was rooted in music. Maybe that was his bond to him. I've had close friends in the past I jammed with whom I don't stay in contact with anymore, now that Im not jamming with anyone anymore. We didnt share any other true interests with each other other than our jamming together.

There’s a few people that I work with that I’ll have no desire to communicate after I retire, no different here.

Mick may just want to live more private these days. By disconnecting, there could be no leaks about potentially the seriousness of his health, or just live a more “normal” civilian life.

When Foreigner finally calls it a day Jeff pilson will be back with George to write some great music and continue the heavy metal experience. If Mick decides to do some drumming, great! If not, his loss. I see he had no drumming issue when playing with Ted Nugent.

Dude, you seriously read a lot into the interview you read from George. My guess is that Mick retired, would like to stay retired and is hesitant about the phone calls that might persuade him into doing something he doesn't want to do anymore. I didn't hear anything you said that referred to George saying they weren't friends. What I heard is he would like to remain friends but if he wants to be a recluse, good for him and I can respect that. You are making a mountain out of a mole hill.

It’s not just George, Mick doesn’t talk to anyone. He’s pulling the Howard Hughes routine. Maybe we’ll hear from him if his $$ runs low. I don’t blame him. I’m only 52 years old and I can barely get out of bed everyday to just pick up my niece from school. It doesn’t mean it’s all about business. I think he was calling to see how his friend is doing. I bet in the end they’ll contact each other. I do the same thing at times. Actually right now currently I haven’t talked to my second to oldest friend of 41 years in over a year and they live less than a mile away.

I am the same age and have a similar story to you. I understand the body aches and understand a desire to be a hermit as well. I got tired of people and have less patience as I get older. I live a low key quiet life without any nostalgia for the past. Cheers and best wishes.

This is how it's done now. You kick somebody out or not let somebody back in or just start slinging mud. It gets fans choosing sides and next thing you know your on a hundred web pages. That's how they promote albums. Then they kiss and make up no pun intended and tour🤔

Yeah man he retired. I don't blame him. I would probably do the same thing. I suspect that the friendship might have suffered because Mick didn't get the same percentage for writing the songs. That's just a guess.

It's amazing Mick toured as long as he did. He MAY be the worst alcoholic I've ever spent time around. I hope he's healthy.

After mick left dokken to play on Ted Nugents band and the reunion dates and jammin every week plus getting older takes a toll on the body and he's had enuff of touring and wants to retire and chill at home

He is now the drummer for Scorpions

Unfortunately, in the 80s hitting the drums hard meant you were a great drummer. Hell, even today that holds true for many players. Fact is, it's not necessary. All it does is tear down the body.

I love george lynch playing but in every interview don dokken praises george lynch playing BUT NOTONE interview does george lynch reciprocate that says alot

Maybe Mick is just enjoying retirement and has no desire to tour with dokken. I don't think they are fighting or Mick is mad at the band

I mean come on ! He played drums for years that definitely took a toll on him. Just let him live his life.

Because Lynch is the Dave Mustaine of hair metal.😅

I'm a HUGE Dokken fan. Favorite album - Out of The Cellar. Doesn't get better than that. 😁
