    Is it okay to take if I’ve had the vertical gastric sleeve. My A1c is showing dm1 but I have sudden sugar drops that come out of no where. I’ve even passed out. I’m scared to take anything that could drop my sugar. Would Ozampic work better? I heard it only works if your sugar spikes.

    Great vidro, thank you! I just started Metformin tonight, 15 min after a good-sized protein meal. 500 MG twice daily. I was hit by a drunk driver in Feb 2021, broadsided at 70 mph. I gained about 85 lbs to put me at around 305. I lost 40 on my own, but I am stuck. I had meniscus surgeries multiple times on both knees; healing well now. In the gym 4-5 times a week combined with multi-mile neighborhood brisk walks. Low Carb eating. I also have to have lower belly scar tissue removed where my seatbelt pulled on me in the accident, as well as surrounding belly fat. The surgeon wants me to lose more weight, especially mid- belly, to be able to pull the skin down. Crossing my fingers! Have a great day all!

When you mentioned in your video that it prevents the liver from releasing glucose in the morning, I started taking it again and sure enough, I no longer have blood sugars jumping from 60 mg/dL to 350+ mg/dL just an hour after waking up and not eating food. Levels have been flats and a lot more manageable. I never connected the dots until your video. Thank you, Diana.

    If this helps, I have been taking metformin for over 25 years for type 2 diabetes. It works great for me, no side effects, no liver or kidney damage and no lowered B-12. It just helps me maintain an A1C that which is normal for a non-diabetic and still eat a few things I otherwise would try to avoid. IMO there is a HUGE amount of BS about metformin. It is one of the safest and most effective drugs ever invented....I'm 78 and very healthy.........I take 2X2000mgs of metformin daily.......

    Hi Syed, metformin will help with weight loss usually, however, we do not prescribe it for weight loss. It's not indicated for weight loss. Therefore, if your doctor feels you are insulin resistant, metformin can be prescribed to help reduce insulin resistance. However, we do not prescribe it for weight loss. There are other medications that are indicated for weight loss that are very effective. I will have a video on this very very soon! Stay tuned! Good luck :)

    Is Metformin or Jardiance better for Insulin Resistance?

  • @ett2801
    @ett28012 жыл бұрын

    Great presentation! Although, I am confused - If someone is insulin resistant, that would mean that there's an abundance of insulin in the body since it isn't being absorbed by cells. In theory, wouldn't this mean that someone who is insulin resistant, and also conscious of their diet, glycemic index, and exercise, have lower blood sugar levels and possibly hypoglycemic?

  • @thevoiceofdiabetes

    @thevoiceofdiabetes

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hello, I can definitely understand why someone would think that way. When we say insulin resistance-- we mean the patient is unable to use the insulin that their body is using the proper way. therefore, it sits in the bloodstream and is not utilized, leading to patients feeling hungrier, weight gain, etc. Think of having useless keys. You have the keys but they do not work. Therefore, they are not getting the job done as a result, actually causing more issues. Insulin resistance makes people more prone to developing diabetes and can make managing diabetes more difficult. Hope this helps! Keep me posted. Good luck :)

    @@Callumsteelem So glad you were able to make the proper lifestyle adjustments and eventually get off metformin. That's incredible and not easy to do. Keep up the great work. I have had instances where I had to stop metformin because the patient's really made drastic changes and their hba1c were in the low 5's. Although most of the time, I will still keep them on at least 500mg daily-- to help out the body as not to burn out the pancreas.... It's all individualized and based on what's going on with the patient. It's important to consider all aspects. Keep up the great work :)

    Any comments or suggestions: Have been on Metformin XR 500 bid for over a yr. No weight loss and A1C is 6.1. Consistent fasting 14 hrs. AM blood sugar level is always between 120-150. Throughout the day my levels are also around 120-150. I exercise a lot. Two times a week weight training, yoga twice a week, 2 miles walking daily, horseback riding twice a week and occasional water aerobics or a mile of lane swimming. Take supplements and otherwise my blood work is good except triglycerides are high. Tried Ozempic, no weight loss and side effects too yucky so stopped after 6 months. I really am at a loss what more I can do. I eat homemade meals 85+# of the time, no sodas, no fast food, homemade sourdough bread, very little red meat. Suggestions please!

    I think, Metformin is not for everybody. I was on it over one year (500mg once a day) and I gain weight. Doctor increased it for me twice a day for more 6 months, because she think, that was low dosage. But I don't lost weight and gain again. I felt horrible, like no life in me. Well, after that she add Trulicity, and I still gained. Than she increased Trulicity and I gained again the weight. My TSH come hi, but she don't increased my Levothyroxine. And I am on Benazepril. My labwork for AIC and cholesterol become better but TSH high, and I felt everyday, like it is my last day. Three months ago I quit Metformin and Trulicity and stared intermittent fasting. My eating window is 2PM to 6PM, and 20 hours only water. I lost in 6 weeks 16 pounds and my bloodwork is much better than with medication. And what is important, I feel much better.

    Hello, thanks for your question. We don't use metformin for weight loss. Although it can help with some weight loss, it is not indicated for that. There are other weight loss meds that are better than metformin if you are using it strictly to help with weight loss. If you are using it for PCOS/prediabetes; insulin resistance, I would discuss about having the dose increased if you are tolerating it well. That may help more. I hope this answers your question. Good luck!

    Hello Silent One, Hmm, metformin requires a prescription. May I ask how you were getting it? I highly advise not taking prescription medications without a doctor supervision. There are things we monitor while patient's on metformin such as liver function. Therefore, taking it without supervision can be dangerous.

Those may be possible options on why you were started. I don't know your medical history but I am speaking in general terms. Always take metformin with food. Try not to take it on an empty stomach as it can be irritating. Hope this helps. Please be sure to check with your doctor/provider for more specific answers to your medical diagnosis. These are just general terms and not to replace your providers medical advise/ and or recommendations. Hope this helps! Good luck
