Why Are Scubapro Hoses Great?

#ASKMARK
Hi Mark,
I love the videos and get a lot from the content. I’m trying to make the smallest lightest travel set up that I can because I’d like to fit everything in a carry on, with that in mind my first stage only has 2 hoses coming off of it (along with a transmitter) the first hose goes to my primary second stage which I’m switching to a MiFlex hose (after learning about it in one of your videos) the second hose goes to my Scubapro Air2 I would like to switch that hose to a MiFlex hose as well but im getting conflicting/confusing advice about weather or not I can switch the second hose to MiFlex because of the connection at the Air2 .
My #ASKMARK question simply boils down to this, can I use a MiFlex hose if it will be connecting to a Air2? Would/could anything special need to be done in order for the answer to be yes? If so what exactly needs to be done?
Thanks In advance for any and all info / answers

Very helpful, thank you Mark. I have the same issue - Scubapro regs with the original rubber hoses. Super durable, but heavier and not as flexible as braided. I fly to the FL Keys for vacation and diving, so weight is always a factor. Thanks again, Mark

#askmark Hi. Thanks for all the mega informative videos! You've answered some of my questions before (thanks again), so now I'm coming with another question. I've been thinking of changing out my BCD inflator hose QD to one that I don't have to "hold open" against spring tension in order to attach to the male QD portion. I've seen some systems where there is no spring tension which I prefer, but from what I've seen they are generally a CEJN QD system. Do you know of an Int. QD that doesn't have the spring tension in the locking nut or do I have to change to the CEJN system? What are the advantages and disadvantages of Int. vs CEJN? Thanks again!

#askmark what do you think of the scubapro supernova ??? I am currently using an atomic split fin. I am currently looking for a fin to handle strong current.

I haven't used them myself. Our Editor says that if you want power then the S-Tek fins would be a better choice. The S-Tek are a similar design to the SuperNova but made from a stiffer material

Yeah, dish soap is good for general gear care. For a more comprehensive disinfectant you can use something like Steramine tablets, they're quite popular in the diving world and there are plenty of other disinfectants like Dettol. You want something strong enough to kill nasties but, won't deteriorate the plastics or discolour anything.

#askmark Hi mark, I know you’ve done a few videos on spools. I really want the apex spools but they are a little costly. What’s the best / closest alternative for a more ‘friendly’ price tag?

  • @ScubaDiverMagazine

They are quite pricey... With their popularity, we did see a bunch of copies from abroad. If you search for _scuba aluminium spool_ a bunch will pop up from various brands you probably haven't heard of. They're ok, nothing special. We got hold of a bunch a few years back; some had quite sharp edges with weird hole designs and didn't have any swivels or fancy lines. I'd recommend looking at plastic spools with flared sides. Nammu spools are really nice, Dive Rite has also released a flared plastic spool which are probably going to be the cheapest. There was one made by a company called Pandora Lab which had some glow-in-the-dark line which was cool. You can't go far wrong with a finger spool and don't have to spend a lot on them. More and more are shifting to a pinch grip in the centre to prevent it from grabbing onto your finger which is nice.

#ask Mark hi Mark my new miflex hoses especially red and yellow ones seem to smell strongly of tcp after a few days fresh water diving in a quarry ,have you ever herd of this ,strange many thanksvrob

I've heard some divers find their hoses smell sometimes and some divers put this down to bacteria settling in the braids. But a disinfectant smell is unusual. I can only think it comes from the manufacturing process and the dive has released dried cleaning agents. I'd get in contact with Miflex and let them know. I'm sure they would like to know just in case it's a larger issue.

Manufacturers and DAN recommend you replace your hoses after 5 years to avoid unexpected failures due to age. Might be time
