Why Are Humans Religious? - A Profound Explanation

Religion and Spirituality is a critical element of being a human. Although we are seeing an increasing number of people express their spirituality in a nonreligious manner, rigid religious belief systems still dominate the planet today. This video will explain in-depth the point of religion, the purpose it serves, and why so many people believe in it.

Because life is complicated and hard, reality is harsh and unforgiving, and there are many things that we’d like to have answers to that we simply don’t. Religion is about pretending none of this is true because it feels better to imagine that it’s not. That’s literally it.

I grew up non-religious with no religious trauma. Homophobia was never preached, racism was seldom preached(my father had his moments), and we never went to church. Throughout the years, I became atheist, and so did my mother and sister, but father stayed a christian through label, but never practice. I had a a period where I was an antitheist, but this was due to religion confusing me, I didn't understand it. Then I met my partner, a christian guy, he opened my eyes to the concept of individuality. I am an atheist, but I am rather fascinated by the differences than hateful towards it.

I grew up non-religious in an Islamic country. After going through a brief depression period at 15 because of the Islamic teachings at school, I became an atheist (without even knowing what it was until a few years later). From 18 to 22, I'd call myself an atheist and "debate" people over their faith, Islam or otherwise. I learned a lot about argumentation and logical fallacies. Then, at 22 I encountered psychedelics (which I don't condone using). I had my first experience with acid after some thorough research on its effects. I went into the experience with a very open mind but very low expectations. After the trip, I couldn't call myself an atheist anymore, as I had witnessed miracles and evidence for the existence of a "higher intelligence" or whatever. I knew something to be true without having empirical evidence for it (no evidence other than my own subjective experience). Faith. I know I'm not a Muslim or Christian, I know I no longer feel comfortable calling myself an atheist, yet I don't know what I actually believe. I'd still debate people over their faith to see how they justify it or whether or not it holds up to scrutiny as I would like mine to do so. (Sorry for the wall of text)

    1. Children are spoonfed with religion. What the parents believe is a big influence on what you will believe. 2. You must FEAR God! He can do whatever he wants with you. So people do not dare to look the other way. It is actually very easy to burst the bubble. You just need to ask questions. But when you confront a believer, give a thousand arguments that doubt the existence of God. They still see 'their' religion as the truth. I have no doubt that people are brainwashing eachother without knowing it.

We live in a BIBLICAL world, where masons rule and where BAAL - lucifer, the master of masonry is worshipped and praised to this day and CHRIST is rejected by many. GOD give us different languages, just to stop us from finishing the building of the tower of BABEL. If the tower of BABEL was never build, the language of man would have stayed the same. /whatever was the language in which mankind speak in those days). GOD give us languages of different kind, not religions. Man made up religions. Religions are our own fantasies and imaginations. Therefore, souls, lets seek CHRIST, not religions. No verse given in bible, which calls us to become “religious”. Bible has verses which say: REPENT AND BORN AGAIN! Matthew 3:2 And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. John 3:7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

I had a religious experience at 17 when I got fed up with having religion pushed in my face and formally rejected it. None of the 30 or more people I was with had rejected it, but I had stuck my neck out, receiving their ridicule as they dutifully failed to hold the minister to account as I had. But I was the only one who had a religious experience of being at one with the universe, which happened, ironically, while the others were in the minister's church doing their numbingly-boring sheepishly-mindless ritual mumbo-jumbo. I am old now, but I still remember that morning. I learned that most people are incurious, happy not to question anything, considering it more important to 'fit in'. Painful though it can be at times, I prefer my curiosity, which is not so much related to religion or the lack of it, as to a desire to explore and understand.

The propensity for religion has the primary "function" of binding a group together as cooperation is our greatest evolved survival attribute. Even our evolved capacity for language is for human interaction and cooperation. God is the idealization of both the tribal leader as well as the group identity. Your experience of at-one-ment is not likely something most people can achieve as most people are too mundane/outwardly orientated but I too have had this profound experience beyond words. Death and resurrection stories are about this experience as Jesus went within himself. The experience is so profound that being reborn is an appropriate metaphor. The oneness experience may be an aspect of the feeling of unity within a tribal group/church. The writers of the Bible recognized the innate need for identifying with a group when they wrote "man can not live by bread alone but also by the word of God." The success of religious leaders depends on there being many willing sheep. Religion and spirituality overlap but aren't the same with spirituality being more of a personal experience.

However the earlier points are being more and more used and frequent, which is why there is so many terrible conflicts due to religion. The thing is, science points towards the same. Alan Watts tried to explain the oneness of the universe through science. Neuroscience is a great science that is really helping us understand ourselves! There is so much progress in science and in spirituality. We need to be the new profets and spread this message! It would be so helpful to so many people!!

I just want to share my thoughts on the subject. Also, you forgot to mention the afterlife as one of the reasons for the existence of religion. I was raised Catholic, and at a young age I developed this innate need to make sense of the world around me. I remember questioning my mother and the priests about certain beliefs and traditions in the faith. I also quickly took notice of the hypocrisy and contradictions among the people who preached the faith. It wasn't until my time in the military when my "faith" was fully shattered by my experiences in the world. I just want to say that while I am not a believer of any god today, I understand the feeling of spirituality and the need to want to be part of a bigger community. However, it is so frustrating to see your species constantly drive itself to conflict because of it's tribalistic nature. And whether it's religion, politics, or land that is being disputed, the results always contradict the goal of all scripture. Spreading and finding inner peace ✌️.

Religion is a social.management system. And human beings know very well it is impossible for them to manage anyone without themselves and their loved circles. Yet they know they may be facing many threats if they just live alone or with people whom they feel love for, which is why they clobber together to live inside a society on agreeable terms. Which is also why they often blindly obey religions, it is like blindly trusting someone or something for common safeguard and protection.

I love Psychology and the main reason why humans need something to believe is sometimes for escapism, curiosity, life meaning and understanding. Being able to understand life at a higher level than animals means that we have the ability to understand love, compassion, hate, forgiveness, cruelty, fairness, unity, equality and morality. For these things i named is where the Philosophy and conduct code of most religions usually come from. I would say the greatest of these is peace, respect and love. For without those 3 there are nothing.

I myself belongs to a religion only to know how beautiful the Nature is. My religion says all human are equal be birth and if they do good stuff then they will go in history in a good way and if they do bad stuff they will go in history in a bad way. It says also believing in others human beings is not the right way because all human beings have some bad ideas even if the ideas are good today in 2 or 3 Tausend years they will not be good anymore because the world changes. For me is the whole point of religion to honour the nature and god is part of nature because the whole point of god in my religion is to know the right way. My god says are human are equal no matters which religion you are or were you come from or which skin or gander you have and they get punished or honoured by their actions beside how they live and what they do. My religion says also are souls that suffer are equal so human and animals souls are by my god equal. My god says the real beauty of human is the beauty of their souls and not their skins or eyes colour…. This is only a bit of my religion. This is the Sharfdin religion of Ezidi people.

if you look at the regions of the brain, for example the rationale section, this section allows us to conceptualise. You would think the fact that we use this section to rationalise also would overwhelm the conceptualisation of god, but no. God seems to win out over rational judgement. I believe it is because 1) our ego needs pacifying is a driver. In pacifying our ego there is 2) a relinquishing, or absolving of an individuals responsibility as a human to some or all uncomfortable truths 3) The acceptance of religious fate is self fulfilling and 4) is also an attractant to others seeking to absolve themselves in order to belong.

I dont think all religions point to this oneness with all things. In fact, most of these faiths with the exception of Buddhism thrive in the illusion of separateness. Hinduism does teach that all things are made of the same primordial stuff- but the hideous caste system is somehow justified. Religion is a lot of what is wrong with the world.

As a Christian what you said almost made sense up and to the point that all of reality is you. That makes no sense whatsoever. Every single human being is an individual and there is a common spirit within us. The spirit that lives within us is the spirit God that created everything but we are not it, it is in us. And the reason why we can’t be it, why we can’t be God is because we did not create ourselves we did not create the stars in the sky we didn’t think of that and it came to be, you can’t manifest creation only God, the only entity that existed before existence did. That’s why every human being wonders of the spiritual aspect of existence is because literally the human mind cannot fathom the idea of a being that lives outside of its own creation. I was once you debunking Christianity and every other religion saying they’re basically all the same and that it’s just to bring division. But it’s not it’s the answer that everybody’s looking for Jesus is the answer everyone is looking for if you really look into it. With a lens to see the truth and not to conform even to it but to find the truth beyond what you’ve been told

No matter what you say or what I say, there is no truth. There never will be. We will never know how we were created. Religion is the human way to cope with this realization. You think it is the “answer” because it is the easy path to take. It is comforting to think there is a reason to our existence, and that someone placed us here. But truly, you have no idea whether what you have faith in is true or not, you have faith in your religion because it’s the easy thing to do.

@@Austin-rq4cnI wouldn’t say that we will never know the true nature of things merely because we don’t yet know what we don’t know in regards to the universe, so making such a statement is a bit hasty. Scientific developments are being made every day. We still don’t have a theory of everything (concerning the fundamental forces) nor understand how the human brain works. If we do not yet know how our own brains work, then how can we claim to never know the true nature of everything if we are still missing crucial pieces to the puzzle?

I think religion has been around basically for two reasons. 1) People fear the unknown; and 2) Other people figured out really quickly how to prey on those fears. I am not saying it's a dirt nap when we die. Why? Because I don't know. I think the trend of people being able to admit that they don't know by walking away from religion is a very good thing, although it may be too late.......I sense there is more going on than meets the eye. Something both Science and Religion cannot measure in any way shape or form. Religion preys on fear and creates a world full of people who lie to themselves constantly and bring more people in to their belief system so they don't feel so alone in their self deception. I went to church when I was younger. If you question ANYTHING in the religion you are going to church for, you will soon find yourself out of that church.....

I taught in the 1st century there is only one....but I research, the bible mainly, and I see many inconsistency in the book, how it created how it copied, how it interpreted, then I noticed that the author of the four gospel has no authorship, how they know it is written by this disciple if no authorship written to it .... And I notice that the original copies are not available, then where the hell they copied the Bible.....

Thats the conclusion i came in a discussion with my brother.. its interesting to see others coming to same conclusion. Technically everyone is God, i am the God of my consciousness, you are the God of your conciousness cuz if i die, you do not exist, nobody exist, the world don't even exist (to my perspective) and same for you, if you die, nothing else matters, I don't exist and nobody exist, again from the perspective of ur conciousness. So we are all "God" methaphorically and belief in itself is a good thing, cuz u you believe strongly enough, you will act according to that belief. Some people even die for their believes. So if you believe you so good at Soccer, there is a good chance you will become, as long as you act upon that belief.

Have you read about studies that have concluded that humans have a natural inclination to believe in the supernatural. That inclination is filled in early life and modified through a person's life and that atheism is also adoctrinated into people.

  • @oscarcorbiere2899

    @oscarcorbiere2899

Unfortunately the data goes against these ideas as people move to different beliefs within their religions, move to other religions and even from religion to nonbelief and back again. It’s not about belief in the supernatural but dealing with our thought streams that include fear, pain, thoughts of exile and death. Many parts of the world deal with these issues on a daily basis so it’s not hard to see they reach out to anything that may bring intellectual comfort if not physical change. You might have missed that 85% of humanity is religious so the idea that nonbelief is indoctrinated very much looks like a fallacy. Religion is everywhere, schools, churches, street corners, billboards, television and on and on. Meanwhile atheism is almost exclusively a personal choice, a random happening that comes out of religious families, religious countries and everywhere in between. As he said in the video as time goes on and education rises so to do nonbelievers numbers. So it’s not indoctrination as a belief that is instilled in you from birth as religions practice but more of a dawning that religions don’t quite make sense in light of more information. It’s been said that world travelers lose their fundamentalism because they see first hand the perversions of other religions and it hits home on their own

When my niece was adopted, her parents lied to her about her parents death, because their was no good to come from telling her the truth. So she grew thinking her parents died in a car accident. I think people continue passing on the lie about god, because when bad stuff happens like a death. Parents can't handle the truth, so they lie and say you will be with them again in heaven. He will wait for you to come. So don't cry, because children's tears are painful for loving parents,SO THEY LIE.

It is wrong to say, that such Realisation cannot come through rigorous thought and that the mind is equal to whatever is called here ego. Nothing thought of and realised therefore Happens away of the mind. Rather, the right thought and state of mind is, what enables it, and correspondingly, the wrong one inhibits it. Its seems therefore, that what can be sensebly called Ego, with its mostly negative conotation is at least a 'state of mind', and consequently root or mere Essence of wrong thinking. That Ego now, which only Refers to the inevitable Individuality of our experience is Neither right or wrong, but simply a fact of experience. To destinguish both, and the mind and its states is of crucial importance to avoid Error. I would even argue, that only logical thought can lead to understanding, which would otherwise only get Scratched at by Intuition or other Genuine experience, which themselves are already grounded in the Nature of the mind, which follows Logic, as everything Else too. The best viable path is therefore what is called here Philosophy. For many have Intuitions, that can lead them astray, If they dont nurish and are nurished by logical thought.

You probably can barely pay rent now true that it doesn't mean you'll be happy but that just seems like a lack of knowledge and desire to be successful. How can believing in something that humanity has forced down our throats make you happy when nothing happened again and obviously did back when if you had and IPhone back then they would have thought you were and God as well. Why can't those thongs happen now when we truly understand. I guess we will never know.
