Styling is probably why. People are split on the looks of the new Accord. I personally like the new Accord, but the 2017 Accord just looked so dam good!! No J35 V6 probably didn't help either.

ecoRfan almost every reviewer/youtuber/mag rates the accord higher than the top end camry when it comes to performance. that low end torque on the 2.0t keeps pulling throughout the higher rpms. i think most people just look at hp numbers and do not really know how big of a part torque plays on any vehicle.

I would disagree. The new Accord is far better looking. It has better greenhouse to beltline proportions and broad muscular hood. It looks lower, longer, and wider. The front end is so much more dynamic and purposeful.

There is truth to that. The only problem is that Honda V6 VCM engines are failures and ticking time bombs. There is a huge class action lawsuit against Honda V6 engines that have the Variable Cylinder Management. They can't meet the CAFE gas mileage requirements without VCM on their V6 engines, so it's no wonder they are abandoning them.

Honda refuses to compete when it comes to incentives. The never off 0% financing, they wont offer things like free oil changes, and all the other things that Camry offers. I went in to buy this car 3 times this year and they would not go for the offers I made on the 2.0 Sport despite their declining sales. Honda thinks the rules of supply and demand don't apply to them. I will not buy the car at all now because they are so unreasonable. You can't charge top dollar for a car that is not selling. Without demand you have to come off of the price. It's simple economics. Also the Kia Stinger is more sporty and the Camry has better incentives so where does that leave the accord?

No way they are going to offer big offers for the 2nd year of making this car. If honda priced the new vehicels for a big chunk, you would be throwing away residual value away. The new would be competing with the same price as the pre owned market and would bring the accord down in value. Wait another year , most likely the third year before the refresh is the one you can expect the cheapest new car deals. My brother just got a 2018 pilot that I helped him get (ex-l) with 1k down for 395 month lease. Roughly 7 grand off the msrp

This is the reason choosing the 2018 Camry over the 2018 Accord was a no brainer for me. I went to car shopping during the last quarter of 2017, I was comparing the SE with $27.5k msrp to the Sport 1.5T $26.7k msrp, and I was offered 4.5k off msrp with 0.9% for 60 months on the Camry and 2.5k off msrp with 2.9% for 60 months on the Accord. Monthly payments on the Camry was over $50 less than the Accord. Plus there is 2 year free maintenance on the Camry. The only thing I liked on the Accord was the infotainment system, and the Sport 1.5T lacked a lot of basic features the Camry has that I wanted like blind spot monitor, keyless entry, physical trunk release button on the trunk, automatic rearview dimming mirrors. Those features are available on the EX trim and above, but it was going to cost even more.

No it's just the growing trend of Suv sales. Don't let anyone tell you different. In December Honda sold 42k CRVs and followed the next 2 months after pulling just the same amount. CRV, Pilot and Passport sales are doubling car sales when the Accord and Civics were top of the sales the Suv and Cuvs were lacking in sales. It has nothing to do with design it's just what the market wants.

@GarageProjects, hey man at 1:08 you said, "Gas prices are down...". Why would vehicles be cheaper if gas prices are down? If anything shouldn't vehicle prices go up since that would hypothetically mean more people would be willing to purchase a car since gas is cheap? In other words, when gas prices are expensive, car sales suffer therefore decrease car prices to entice more customers which is the same as when gas prices are cheap, car sales boom therefore increase car prices not lower them?

Its quite simple why the sales are down. Actually its a NO BRIANER! Its UGLY AF!!!!! The exterior has a mismatch of shit going on everywhere. Charger front bumper. Jacked up IMPALA side profile. And a HIDEOUS sonata/Malibu rear end. And Honda fanboys call the Avalon ugly. It does have a large ass grille. However its exterior lines are well proportioned no matter what angle you look at it from. Out of all midsize sedans the Accord has received the worst backlash for its hideous looks while the outgoing 2017 model still looks sexy and non offensive from all angle! There I've summed it ALL up for everyone. Now let the Honda trolls come and start their defense. ill be waiting for TROLL PATROL 83, GET A JOB, J MASONCARS, Oh and cant forget poor old "GOVERNMENT CHEESE"!

Thanks for posting this interesting video .. My opinion on the new 2018 Accord.. The first time I saw the 2018 Accord my first reaction was how low the car sits.. WAAAYYY too low. The low stance causes several undesirable problems. 1) Visibility is terrible when you sit this low. 2) Poor visibility jeopardizes safety. I also don't like it when other cars tower over you. 3) Lack of headroom if you are over about 5'10".. Sure Honda tries to compensate for this by making the seat sit lower - basically making you sit on the floor. Very unpleasant/uncomfortable driving position for long and short trips.. 4) When a car is this low it makes it difficult to get in and out of. Hard on the knees/legs and you can get a hernia stooping to get in/out. 4) The Accord has low profile tires which help make car ride terrible. And by hitting a pot hole it is easier to damage the wheel for a expensive repair. Higher profile tire avoid this problem. 5) The same low stance (lower overall height of the vehicle) is a problem with other auto's like SUV and Minivans which keep getting lower with every new model. For these reasons - No way can I buy this Accord. These reasons also may be contributing to the lower sales.

Tested the Camry and I was so disappointed. 1st and 2nd gear of Camry is so horrible. Camry feels cheap compared to Accord (SE vs Sport). In addition Honda sensing works really well even better than a Q7 my family owns. I’d take the Accord it’s a no brainer.

I don't know if anyone else has said this in the comments, but after researching the '18 Accord and finding info on Honda Sensing's potential misfires, it was enough for me to take a pass on the '18 Accords. Some people have reported the car suddenly decelerating, and also the wheel being yanked by the lane keeping "assistant". No car as yet can take the place of knowing when or how hard to brake, and instead of Honda allowing for this to be permanently turned off, it will come back on each time the engine is started. The fact that this thing ever does get confused is enough for me. I don't want to gamble my safety on hoping a car will not malfunction and having it slam on the brakes at the wrong time or yank the wheel. Instead of making it an option on the '18 Accords, Honda made it standard, then took this same imperfect tech to the '19 Civics and made it standard there as well so as of the '19's, it can't be avoided in either vehicle. This nanny state mentality that some sensor knows more about driving than humans do who can account for more kinds of input than the sensors can, is flat out dangerous. These sensors are sometimes being erroneously triggered by oncoming cars, by cars changing lanes but the sensor still thinks it needs to rapidly decelerate, by cars turning next to you safely, by the car itself going through some curves, etc. All you need is one time to be the wrong time--not worth the risk. Lane sensors are being triggered by tar lines, by construction areas with mulitple white lines, etc. No thanks to it all. My guess is that sales will continue to tank as long as they insist on forcing this on their cars in its current state. I'd happily owned Hondas for over 20 yrs before I steered away from getting one this year. It was the saddest time for me because I love Hondas. All this driverless business is just not there yet, and to mix driving with a car suddenly deciding to aggressively decelerate or steer is a risky mixture. Who cares how a car looks if it subscribes to the presumptuousness that a car should wrestle control away from the driver based on what a computer thinks is happening while that computer is only able to fixate on a limited number of factors.

You make good points.. but the reason according to the GM at my dealership which is a good friend states people aren't buying due to no V6 and the most important part is it's appearance. I for one don't like it's appearance and V6 isn't available. After waiting almost a year to switch out my 2016 I just couldn't trade mine in. I've written responses that my 2016 V6 touring actually gets much better mileage than the 18. Matter a fact, I took a trip to Utah from southern California and was astounded vehicle registered 56 mpg on flat open hwy on adaptive cruise and 38 climbing mountains. The only thing the 18 had to offer mine doesn't have is head up display, more features for the electric seats and 10 speed trans.. cell phone charger I added on mine for a little over 40 dollars. I did test drive a few other cars with a V6 but not worth their asking price in my opinion. Anyhow, be keeping mine for quite some time.. the funniest thing ive always got a kick out of is that people complained over a radio Knob.. I rarely touch the unit as I use steering wheel controls..

I'm having 1.90% APR on my current car." Not to mention they told me my credit score is above 800. No better car with higher interest and higher price! Honda probably thinks I'm a fool .. lol. I don't care about the look of the car that much nor the infotainment system, all I know is a smaller engine that produces more torque than my V6 engine with only 26 HP less than my V6 engine!! It means the engine will wear out faster, simply put. So, goodbye Honda after almost 10 years of friendship.

Turbos are fine. Ugly? Personal preference. CVT? Not true. You can get a CVT, a 6 speed manual and a 10 speed automatic. It all depends on what trim you get. As for the engine available in the 2.0 Sport and Touring Accord, it is the same as in the Type R but with a different turbo. It is exceedingly likely that a quick tune or even a special version from Honda will see well past the power #s that the Camry V6 has. The 1.5T can easily do over 200HP so that is a joke. The ONLY thing that I am concerned about is Direct Injection. I have a 10th Gen Civic right now but DI is showing up in everyone's engines and I am more nervous about this one element than anything else.

Toyota Camry sales are up. All of the sedan market isn’t dying just yet. And its not just because of camry fleet sales. They have those every year. An increase means they are selling more than last year. The overall number is a higher one because of fleet sales, but a increase in overall sales is different. I think it meets more of the desires in the segment. Reliability is huge. Toyota uses D4s port and direct injection. No carbon issues like a straight GDI engine. No turbo either. And honda pricing combine to hurt sales. I wanted an accord 2.0 sport briefly in the manual trans. Its just a more fun engaging drive. But my camry XSE cost me $26500 with a panoramic roof( cant even get that). It had a $31000 sticker. Honda accord with similar sticker they dont want to go under 28500 .so outside of the turbo, the car has way less features for more money. Cant do it. I have dual 8 way power seats, leather, parking sonar, full LEDs, even signals and back up lights. Rear cross traffic braking, heated seats, etc.I would be willing to accept the drop in amenities, but not pay more as well

Looking at this video today in 2021, I agree with you. In March of 2017 I was in the market for a new Honda CR-V. When I found out the EXL model had a 1.5L with turbo and a CVT transmission, I was shocked. I could have purchased an LE model, but that didn’t have the options of my 2009 CR-V. This car was for my wife that had a 2006 Accord EXL with 170,000+ miles. I quickly went to Toyota to see what they have. I ended up purchasing a 2017 Toyota RAV4 XLE. I spent $26.5k on my 2009 Crv, 4 WD in Sept. of 2009. The Toyota in 2017 was $26.1k and it was 2 WD. Since 2009 the 4WD has actuated 2 times, for this reason I purchased the 2WD version of the Toyota. The 2WD version was hard to find in March of 2017, but one was located in Calumet City, Illinois. My Toyota has 50,000 miles and is doing quite well, no issues at all. It’s nice not to do the rear end maintenance that most people don’t do on their 4WD cars. The Toyota came with adaptive cruise and lane hold, which was only on the top of the line Honda’s and was standard on all the Toyota RAV4’s. I think you should do a followup on this video to compare what happened and how the change to smaller engines has affected Honda. Thanks…Jim PS……currently my buy Honda is a Civic with a naturally aspirated 2.0L engine.

Your points are good but you also failed to mention competition.Nissan,Toyota, Mazda, Kia, and Hyundai are all making sedans that offer a better value and in many cases, a better looking car. Mazda 6 and new Altima are way ahead of the Accord. The Korean cars have a better warranty so until Honda improves the looks, they will be losing sales to the competition.

No Thank you, if there is one thing that I hate in a car is the limited range. I bought her a Subaru Legacy Limited, She loves it, and the all wheel traction is a big plus in the winter in New York. And it has an 18 and half gallons fuel capacity.

I buy Accords, only. Why? Because I don't own an auto repair business. I'm 76 yrs old. I've owned or bought for my family >50 cars. We have four of the non-naturally aspirated Accords. My wife's car has > 100,000 miles on odometer, runs like a new car. Maintenances? None, other than 100% full synthetic oil / Mobil One oil filter every 10k miles. New tires at 80k. Factory brake pads still look good. Amazing cars. In the not too distant past, I owned three Chevy products at the same time, I realized I needed to change one day when I was standing at the dealers service desk and I realized I'd been there so much that I knew EVERYONES name.

I'd walk away from the CVT, too. A friend recently bought a new car. She asked me whether she should look at an Accord. I said, "sure, but be sure to check out the Avalon first". She did and settled on the Toyota quickly. Bought in a neighboring state and "saved" almost 2K over the best price she could negotiate here. Personally I would likely have gone for a Camry with the 4 cylinder at a lower price point even though the exterior styling is ugly.

Love your videos. These aren't easy to do so I really appreciate your efforts. One correction regarding a previous video you did on your review of the Honda Accord Sport 1.5T CVT (which you own): I bought one recently, several months ago, and you need to know that the seats are "vinyl" and cloth, not leather. No biggie to me since it looks like leather, "should" hold up well, etc. If you don't believe me... stop by any car interior shop and they'll let you know. BTW; yes, the shifter and steering wheel are leather on the sport 1.5. However, the seats, padding on the doors, etc are vinyl. The seats on the Sport 2.0 are indeed leather. Thanks again for your reviews.

A lot of good points were made it definitely appears there's a lot of variables involved of why sales might be down. one though I haven't heard mentioned is that as a whole this could be a sign of the Future car sales are going to go down. Millennials could be the first generation with there's a percentage of that generation that will never own a car because of companies like uber and Lyft when you can get a ride anytime you want at the touch of an app on your smartphone. Millennials are the generation where parents never let them out of their sites. they were chaperone and given rides to school, soccer games, etc. so it was natural for Millennials to embrace the right sharing industry. Especially if you live in a city you really don't need a car anymore.

  • @frankmacy1879
    @frankmacy18793 жыл бұрын

Don't agree. This chap missed perhaps the biggest reason for the sales drop. The 2018 Accord was the first year it was only available as a 4 door sedan. They did away with the 2 door coupe. The coupes were a lot sportier, and for a bigger guy like myself, it was way more comfortable. The front seats sat further back in the coupe model, creating more leg room. And the doors were longer/wider, making it much easier getting in and out. I owned 7 Accord Coupes between 1995 and 2009, loved them all. I bought the 2018 sedan model, it's a great car in most respects, but being a bigger guy (6ft.2in 260 lbs.), I'm sort of squished. Unless they return the Coupe model back into the Accord line, I doubt I'll be buying any more Accords. I do a lot of driving, I want to be comfortable, not squished.

I mostly agree with you. No one with any sense will dispute the fact that the vast majority of buyers are choosing utility vehicles, whether it be CUV, SUV, or truck... and that is obviously going to affect passenger car sales. That said, the new turbo engines are also definitely playing a roll, although I don't believe long term quality will go down. Honda makes the best engines in the industry, in my opinion, and whether or not it has a turbo makes no difference. They engineer them to withstand the higher demand required, so that simply isn't a problem. At the end of the day, it comes down to preference. Do you like turbos or not? In any case, it won't matter for very much longer because engine downsizing will eventually permeate the entire market.

Bought a 17 Accord Touring last year. Except for the disappointing stereo, the car is fantastic. The purchasing process was however difficult. All dealers in the Southern California area were not willing to deal. In fact many of them required you to purchase pre-installed accessories boosting the price up by thousands. I never had these issues buying a Toyota. It's a shame because the Accord is a great car, but the buying process was so much of a hassle that I don't know if I'd ever buy another Honda.
